You know you're not in the best of places when all the shiny new PC upgrades and such arrive and you're not actually uber-excited to get started on things. Of course, then in the process realising that of course, all the latest graphics cards are purely HDMI sockets, and my fancy widescreen monitor was all pre-HDMI connectors....

I'm not sure what it really says about the current state of human pragmatism / cynicism that everybody expects any career politician to have certain levels of corruption. But speaking as an outsider, I think we can safely say that if/when Biden takes office, while he might populate many of those agencies with some elements of those lobbying fields, he wouldn't be as blatantly obviously brutal about putting people in charge of the agencies that try to keep their personal interests to some form of legal accountability. Of course, it actually puts me in mind of Tom Clancy a little. President Ryan's "I'm going to pick people I personally know and trust who are experts in their field to be put in charge of x and y..." I wonder how much Tom Clancy Trump reads....

Now there was a semi-viral tweet from Olivia Munn where she found her Psylocke sword at home and was practicing with it and went wrong... Someone decided to turn it into a lightsaber.

Been idly doodling around with some of Fantasy Flights Rogue Trader RPG, and amused to realise that they've done a fan shout-out by including a "Reaver" alternate career path, a character that has lived too long on the edge of space, loses connection with humanity and now lives just for slaughter and pillage. A picture of which includes a character wearing a rather familiar browncoat. Of course, what actually amused me most about it.. is that how often does something get translated into Warhammer 40k and become lighter and softer? Also, realising it's pretty much Star Trek The Mirror Universe the RPG when you get down to it...

Way back in February I'd booked tickets and time off to fly over to the US (Georgia in fact) to visit friends and attend DragonCon at the end of August. Now DragonCon is cancelled, and I'm definitely not looking optimistically to being able to land in the US, let alone Georgia. Methinks I'll be having to cancel those tickets in a week or two....

Just because it's being put to one use now, doesn't mean it can't be used for other things at later dates...

Besides being the social media construct for the latest young generation and a way to get their potential 5 minutes of world fame, its a device for China to suck all your personal data and get access to everything you do on your phone. Supposedly.

I was feeling slightly depressive, so I pulled out the whimsy to battle it. Which resulted in ordering a batch of fairy light leds, some cotton rope, and clamps. Now I plan to build an adult blanket fort to hide in and read for the weekend....

Doesn't quite fit in either film or literature.. That sort of crossover of both. PasteMagazine - Conant the Barbarian took what worked and abandoned what didn't (the racism)
