  1. Speaking in ideal terms, a business exists to make money while a government exists to serve the interests of the populace. Thus, in an ideal world, I would rather place the trust in the government, yes. Of course, nothing is ever ideal, and trust me, I'm just as fed up with our government right now as you are, albeit for somewhat different reasons. But I do not think that the fact that our government is currently not serving the purpose it should logically leads to the conclusion that government should not be regulating the environmental impact of businesses. That said, I completely agree with you that the focus of most "environmentalism" is off-base and unconvincing - yes, saving the environment for the environment's sake is desirable (to an extent to which it doesn't adversely affect large numbers of people), but it is not the main reason for environmental conservation. Environmental conservation is important because of the potential impact on human society if we don't, and that concern should always have the priority. To be honest, though, the amount of regulation required to save the global fisheries at this point simply isn't feasible - it would require massive international cooperation which would never, ever happen. I just hope we don't get to the same point with various other environmental concerns (deforestation is a big one - look at Haiti if you want to see what cutting down all the trees can do to a country).
  2. If I had my way schools would all celebrate Saturnalia.
  3. Nice strawman, bro. I take it that's a 'Yes' then. Are you trolling me, good sir? Can't speak for farmers at the moment, but yes, many industries certainly are just as you describe - a swarm of mindless locusts focused only on immediate profit. For the best example, look at the global fisheries: in a few decades, most of them will collapse. That'll be it, no more fish. A major global food supply, gone. So, to put it simply - No, I do not believe that I can trust big businesses to have a reasonable focus on long-term sustainability without government regulation. Some certainly may, but there are certainly enough that don't to warrant government interference.
  4. Descriptor originally coined in Germany for left-wing environmentalists : Watermelon - Green on the outside, Red on the inside. Most Greens are socialists in hippy clothing, at the end of the day they want to take your money and tell you how to live your life and how to think. The vehicle for their authoritarian leftist agenda is saving the planet. Totally agree. To quote HL Menken "The desire to save the world is just a false face for the desire to rule it" Go read through Collapse by Jared Diamond and see if you retain that position. We are certainly capable of destroying our civilization through environmental damage, and we're drawing frighteningly close to actually doing it.

If NK starts a war, a lot of people will die, and NK will very soon cease to exist as a country.

Just ordered my new guitar. Carvin ST300C, blueburst on flamed maple, with a pointed headstock and black hardware. Thing is going to be sexy. Now I just have to wait 5 weeks...

This thread needs LoF. I'm utterly shocked he hasn't posted yet.

    Where's Lof?
  9. MFW when people assume that ME devs care about continuity >Implying this is 4chan.
  10. According to the description the Incisor is a relatively recent weapon, so I have a hard time believing it'll be a prequel.
  11. Well, I downloaded the trial version of Nero and it was, indeed, the only software I could find that was able to do this. Hooray!
  12. Haha, no. Most of those are programs designed to bypass iTunes DRM. Trust me, I've checked. It seems that the only programs that can do this are programs which I'd need to pay for.
  13. So, I'm attempting to take some mp3 files and turn them into a disk image of an audio cd. Not a mp3 cd (or any data cd for that matter), but a simple audio cd-rom. I simply cannot find any software to do this. From what I've read, it'll have to be a BIN/CUE file, as .ISO's are restricted to data cds. Any suggestions? edit: If you want to know why, Total Annihilation needs to run the music off an audio cd, and my cd/dvd drive is nearly dead and currently only reads dvd's, thus I set my virtual drive (via. Alcohol 52%) to D: and would mount the virtual audio disk instead.
  14. It's pretty feeble support for your view, then.
  15. nah, only the first two movies are I repeat, there is not enough different about the third movie for anyone to reasonably make that argument.
  16. Well, now I know to disregard your opinion. The original trilogy is great. Campy, yes, but great.
  17. You see, the problem with people having "opinions" on issues in physics is that physics is pretty black and white - either you're right, or you're wrong. The best you can possibly do is rely on what the experts in the field say - if you haven't extensively studied physics, you simply cannot speculate on issues like this.
  18. Why do you care enough to respond? Or do you just enjoy turning threads into ****-slinging contests?
  19. The sad thing is it'll probably be way more profitable than a new RPG.
  20. But I thought BioWare never pandered to shooter fans!
  21. It's a repaint of the M-29 Incisor sniper rifle. Originally, only in the PC digital deluxe and then avilable through the Aegis DLC. Well, that would explain why I haven't seen it. Honestly, this overuse of DLC does nothing but annoy me.
  22. Doesn't look like a Mass Effect rifle to me...is it a DLC weapon?
  23. With generic white guy with short dark hair and slight stubble space marine? Wearing generic impractically-designed power armor, to boot!
  24. Looks like generic gray-and-brown semi-futuristic shooter #651.
