A concept frankly ripped from Planescape Torment. lol. This is almost as bad as when I saw someone claim that Bioshock ripped it's art style off from Fallout. Have you played Torment? Yes. Then what's not clear? Was it not true that every PC in Torment had a tortured past?

Yes, they can twist anything, in any way they want. Well, if you don't have some privileged source of information, you just have to go with gut feeling. Knowing other languages and being able to read what the other side is saying is extremely valuable.

Just dont go through the portal when you finish up in Spellhold. You'll get the chance to see the coolest beholder ever.

He constantly follows me around like a familiar, making a point of contradicting everything I say (even when it makes no sense to do so, and even in the "way off topic" forum). I wasn't even addressing him on the post he responded to. I dunno why this fixation (perhaps he wants to do a dwarf on me [DA]), but its becoming slightly irritating, so don't jump on my back if I respond once in a while. ... They also say they're worse than BGII, or so their scores show. Metacritic is not proof of anything, but it shows clearly that no game Bio made after BGII has had as wide a critical acclaim, amongst professional reviewers. If it was released now, with DA's production values it would still blow everything out of the water, including DA. Because no one cares about C&C's or "deep" characters, what people care about is meaningful and immersive gameplay. You could spend days doing trivial things in Athkatla, and still have the feeling you haven't seen half of it. You could spend 150 hours playing the game and still wish to replay it. Many have done so, several times over. Those who still try to claim that BG2 is their best game is unconditionally praising an overrated game that is past its prime If its past its prime why are there 6557 votes on GoG to release the digital version of the game? Why would anybody want to play an overrated game past its prime, a decade later, let alone several thousand people? NWN has 350 votes. KOTOR 400. Jade Empire 124. A mere pittance in comparison. As far as you and moderation, that doesn't seem to belong in the same sentence. If I'm biased, you're a whole new category. Jaded because someone can still enjoy a game you can't anymore. And you rant on and on about it, substituting a game (NWN) which most people would prefer to forget ever existed.

I'm still holding a self imposed embargo on playing DA. From what I gather its the gameplay of BGII without the story. One out of two ain't bad, thus I'm not complaining. I'm partially retired already and I get no pension at all. A free GoG game a month would be nice... xD Aww

A concept frankly ripped from Planescape Torment. The occasional BGII character had a sad story, (Aerie etc.) but they didn't sledgehammer your brain with it. Well Aerie did, but then you could always fireball her and be done with it.

You can't. I use western media (much like any other, including local ones) for basic facts. From the basic facts, other more detailed knowledge, previous experience and educated guesses (because there's only so much available information) you formulate your own opinion. The problem with "humanitarian" interventions or any other sort of conflict is that they turn the media into a cog of the war machine, and everything becomes suspect. Although I must say the media portrayal of the Iraqi war was much more critical than the one of the Balkan wars. Its probably due to the relatively weak international backing the Iraq war had in the first place. Media manipulation was thoroughly analyzed by George Orwell in his day, and not much has changed since. The internet could be a better source of information, (and it is in general) if only it wasn't so chaotic and suffocated by amateurism.

You can persist in those arguments until the universe kicks the bucket, but the fact of the matter is they've never made a better game than Baldurs Gate II. All that claptrap about C&C's, "deep" characters, more "RPG" options and whatnot does not disguise the fact that while they have in fact improved some things over BGII, the overall quality and polish has never been reached. Even that PoS Metacritic shows it, when now, almost 10 years later BGII is still the 6th best game ever made. And that was back in the day when positive reviews weren't handed out like candy. Recent Bioware efforts: Mass Effect 98. Dragon Age 63. Respectable, but not nearly as high. Not to mention that BGII is in GoG's top ten list of most demanded games. Why does anyone want to play it now if its Biowares "worst"?

I think most people here are talking about sex, for the lack of a better topic. No one's actually interested in "romance" , and its amusing to speculate who gets to bang who. Its more or less the only unknown info about ME2 As long as it stops taking itself so seriously it will probably be a much more immersive game. I was expecting the "epic" with the first one, and it was underwhelming to say the least. Now I'm expecting a comic book style approach of pure fun and instant oblivion upon completion. You can't go any lower than that, but since even fun games are hard to come by today complaining serves no purpose. I suppose this is worse in a way because when I was ranting about Bioware, I did it expecting they would, eventually, consider making games of BGII calibre again. Now that its obvious they're going to persist with the EA way of doing things, and focus on their IP's (which are pedestrian and shallow to me) - I'm just along for the fun part of the ride.

Sooner better than later, if we've got more of this stuff incoming

Nothing complicated about it, you're a closet transvestite.

It was a brief piece that appeared and was gone in one afternoon sometime in 1999. Perhaps they have it in the BBC archives but the probability of it being recorded by someone in the public is quite small. I didn't have the means to do so at the time, and since it was essentially fire and forget propaganda, they didn't replay it. I mention it only because I saw it with my own eyes. All sorts of things can be expected in wartime propaganda, but this was so far off the scale it stuck in my memory. It was aired at a time BBC wasn't available in Serbia, so it couldn't be denounced (I only saw it because I lived in Africa at the time), and very few people are likely to know of it. If I find it by some weird chance I'll give you the link, though nothing but full access to BBC archives is likely to yield results. As it stands you'll have to take my word for it (such as it is) .

Of course all these implausible, deterministic, theories fall apart once you mention that matriarchal societies used to exist.

Yes, its easier to check up on things and at least for me, I find it easier to see what the agenda of the person is when I read what he/she wrote then in conversation. People can get the wrong impression. Eg: the prosecutors in the Hague appeared completely ignorant when trying to differentiate among various Serb paramilitaries, even confusing the regular army with them. Yet to us, most of the time, its quite obvious who is who. I'm not saying your friends would lie intentionally, they just might misinterpret what they're seeing or even be purposefully decieved. Journalists are scum, for the most part. They chase stories, not truth. Books I was reffering to were serious studies - not journalistic clap trap. Example of "journalism": during the bombing, I was watching BBC. Breaking news said that Serbian police had detained some US citizens (actually they were CIA operatives, but thats irrelevant to this story), at a location in southern Serbia. I think they were released afterwards. Anyway, the news reporter asks a random villager, probably somewhere around Kopaonik (where they were captured): "What do you think should be done to them"? I can hear his entire response in Serbian because the "translation" was late, he said: "you know, Serbs are a peaceful people. (trying to say he has no opinion on the matter)" Imagine my surprise what I heard in english: "They should all be put up against the wall and shot". This piece of "news" ran for only one or two reports, and was not repeated in the evening.

I got Giants: Citizen Kabuto from GoG, since I never got around to playing it. Its waiting for my CoH download to finish, and then I'll get to it. Been reading the manual in the meantime, its hilarious.

That's a disaster. You can't stop bribery, but making it legalized is definitely not a solution. The US political system was already too susceptible to what's effectively "policy shopping". In the short term, nothing will change of course, but in the long its just apt to lessen the influence of the people (as a whole) and groups (the ones with less money) on decision making. If one's interests are constantly pushed aside by big money, that will breed dissent - not to mention corruption in the government. Obama will never make it to a second term I'll wager.
