  1. The probability of getting that order again would be around 2^50, so yeah, it would never happen no matter how many times you try. Edit: Actually it's 50 factorial, still pretty huge. Actually much bigger.
  2. That it's a scam. But if you're dead set on not believing that, it even makes more sense to just accept that she was incredibly lucky. You have not presented us with something that actually violates our current understanding of statistics. Yes it does. Something that only has 1 in trillions chance of happening shouldn't happen in the natural world. And I already accounted for the sample size, otherwise it would be septillions like the article says. OK, I'm willing to pursue the line of inquiry into why current statistics are inadequate, although I'm pretty sure they're on solid mathematical foundation. No big loss. Edit: Must have, the octopus' chances were only 1 in 256 though, so she did a bit better.
  3. Luck: favorable results given unfavorable odds. Extreme luck: Favorable results given extremely unfavorable odds. It happens. It does not happen often, but mathematics dictates it *must* happen at some point if the sample size is large enough. Regardless, it most likely is a scam. Oh, and that article was idiotic: Anyone who passed high-school statistics can tell you that the only way to win a negative EV game in the long run is to not play. Yes, it should happen once in thousands of the lifetimes of the universe, how does that make you feel better?
  4. What in the hell is extreme luck? Is luck some kind of measurable property? Edit: @kirottu 3 of those were scratch off tickets, so she wouldn't even know the numbers. She'd just get the next one from the machine, completely random.
  5. OK, that wasn't entirely serious, but atheists don't believe in anything supernatural, right?
  6. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100714/ap_on_..._lottery_winner I don't think the odds are in septillions like the article says, but they've got to be at least in the trillions. The way I see it, there are only two possible explanations. Either this is the most elaborate scam ever, or there has to be a supernatural explanation. Take that atheists!
  7. How about not make me stand up and lose invisibility when I'm coming out of cover? How about cover that actually works more than 50% of the time?
  8. Remember how Activision wouldn't release Brutal Legend and wouldn't let EA release it either? I'd say all the bridges were burned a long time ago.
  9. Never heard of the guy before you posted it. Ask the french instead. He also clarified that his relations were not with children, unlike Polanski. Yes, his excuse was ever so believable. Of course no one knows what a "young boy" means, or what really goes on in Bangkok brothels.
  10. This time it will be completely original. You spend ten years gathering the most psychotic and dangerous allies from all over Thedas. You also build up your castle, Normandy. Finally, it all culminates in a gigantic battle against your arch-enemy, the Assemblers.
  11. A cotract is a contract, has nothing to do with whether a game came out or not. Like she says, the publisher doesn't need the backlash when they're spending millions for good PR.
  12. I thought you Europeans were past all that staff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric_Mitterrand
  13. That's the game industry for you, a few franchises make huge money, everyone else is struggling at best. There's no answer for that. It all depends on location and job position. For example it's really pricey to live in California area, less in Texas, still less in UK, even less in Finland (Max Payne, Alan Wake developers Remedy or Flatout developer Bugbear) and still less in Poland (The Witcher developers CDproject). Entry level programmer can barely pay his rent and buy food while Lead Progammer get big bucks. For example the salaries in Nightshapes linked list are way too high. If entry level progammer would ask 50k here in Finland, he'd end up with the permanent smile on his face in the nearest river. Actually Texas is a pretty cheap place to live, I believe that applies internationally among first world countries as well.
  14. If he's serious about good games, he shouldn't be such a graphics whore. Graphics have very little to do with enjoying a strategy game after the first few minutes. I used to think good games have really dried up also, but for the past year or so there's been a steady stream of good to excellent games. Of course most of them are shooters, but still. Edit: He's right about RTW being crap compared to MTW though.
  15. You are right by principle. But i do not see anything that will simply break this trend unless they hire a new main writer. Writers team is the same. If you found Dragon Age's writing completely uninteresting then I don't honestly see much hope for you. Not completely uninteresting, rather missed potential and underdeveloped. I am a hopeless optimist, goddammit! That can be fixed, I'm a pessimist though
  16. To be fair, you don't know yet if the dialog will be uninteresting or not.
  17. Wow, that whole rant was just about the voiced PC. Why do people obsess on one part of the mechanic instead of evaluating the game as a whole? Was Veilinn the one who went on endlessly about the male Shepard being used to promote ME and how that would make the game impossible to play?
  18. At least this should keep him out of the US.
  19. The humor was nice, but the puzzles so-so.
  20. I think you still get a summary in addition to the mood. Which is what AP should've done.
  21. If you think the dealers are bad, wait till big corporations jump into this. "Joe the Pot Smoking Camel"
