33 Gothic 3 screenshots from HQ ingame footage
Morgoth replied to elkston's topic in Computer and Console
It seems like the subject has now completely derailed. And I'm not in the mood right now to defend my point of view against 5, 6 people, because I can't write as fast as Data from Star Trek. :D No seriously, I'm pretty sure G3 is going to rock. No matter how much people try to turn my words around. -

Who said the nameless hero is starting out as a complete novice? Even in BG2, your party already had level 7 or 8. No big deal. -

I hoped this thread would find back to it's groove, but thanks to senseless posts like you're providing, this thread gets more and more derailed. -

You just choose being a thief, rogue or fighter with one mouse click, but in Gothic 3 you have to earn you reputation, then you can join a guild, learn their arts and so forth. And if you don't like being an assassine for example, you can always piss them off, get thrown out and seek another guild to learn new talents. That's way smarter done than for example D&D does. -

Huh? Woman characters can be awesome! Jade from Beyond Good & Evil for example kicks ass. But a woman who talks like a prolet and runs around in chain-bikini isn't my thing. Sure, there's NWN2 and many others on the horizon which alloes you to play female chars. But I have to disappoint you that G3 won't be your cup of tea then. Ohh I see. So you want the nameless hero having pink hair? Makes big difference in role-playing, uh huh. -

So what? Even if you spend those point during char-creation, you're still a total softie and just have to earn your points through the gameplay. Weakling with or without spending the points myself. no difference to me. -

Forming a character to me should be a process that has to be earned. My behaviours reflect my environment, throught that I get quests or not, hence I advance my character or not. Nothing should be get for free, even not the initial 20 points or so during the char-creation. Table-Top RPGs do that, but Gothic doesn't try to emulate such. Devs should just go out and deliver top-quality games, make them better and better, even if that means the game is "politically incorrect". Through top quality, you earn new fans, both male and female. Doing gamedesign specifically for gender or try to shoe-horn something into the concept that wouldn't fit but is demanded due to "political correctness" is just a step backwards. -

What's the point of any discussion on a message board? Just for the hell of it. You claimed something was realistic, I disagreed and was interested why you thought it was realistic, you claimed the game was unique, i was interested in what you thought was unique. Turns out you were really just talking about what you like about the game. The end. No need to be so defensive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now finally we find the red fathom again. Yes, I claimed that not let doing a woman a man's job is more realistic (maybe the wrong choice of words), or believable, because the scruffy and wild Gothic world is just created that way. Don't try to shoe-horn something into just because RPG giants like Bioware or Bethesda do it as well. Sure, the world of Gothic isn't really unique per se, but it has it's own merits and own strengths, and that alone in a world that just yells "Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft and Forgotten Realms" makes it a bit refreshing. -

Half the fun for me is making the character so a character creation option needs to be in the game for me to really get into it. One of the things I disliked about PS:T I just couldn't get in character mainly beause it wasn't my character. The same can be said with Gothic 2. Personally I like to create female characters. If I am going to stare at the screen for hours on end I might as well be looking at the right type of pixels. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know. But to me, it doesn't make that big difference. I think the player should earn his/her points through the gameplay, so I can actually do without char creation very well. -

Thanks for not commenting on my other comments. When I say unique, it's unique to me. That is all that matters. Realism, Fantasy, Medieval, Blablabla....... what's your point Hell Kitty? I just said that I totally respect why the Piranhas leave out woman and kids, because it makes sense in their world. Period. You and some others seem to have a beef with that, like I do have a beef with the crappy ES setting, and that's all. -

Did I say "medieval fantasy world"? I'm talking about medieval, not medieval fantasy. And yeah, Oblivion isn't unique, but Gothic is. Huh? This thread is about Gothic, please open an new one if you want to discuss this matter. And again, Gothic is fantasy as well, but there can still be rules applied that maybe aren't realistic in other fantasy RPGs. Realism isn't a bad thing as long as the setting and chars gain credibility through that. I always thought you should play "your" character in a CRPG, and now you're whining you don't get pre-defined characteristics? You play the nameless hero as you want and imagine his motives like you do just in any other RPG, not matter whether you get a pre-made "blank slate" or a self-created "blank slate". -

Different Developer, different vision, different goals. I just like the world the Piranhas created more than Bethesda created with Oblivion. And while G3 is fantasy as well, it feels a bit more realistic and medieval, and I also don't have to mess around with whiny woman and stupid kids. Oblivion is IMO just the epitome of an unimaginative (should I say LOTR rip off?) American style RPG where everything, no matter how silly it appears, is possible. As I said, Gothic is fictional as well, but there're still rules that have to apply. Rules that may resemble a bit the rough historical medieval times, but I'm fine with that. You can twist and turn it as much as you want, Piranha put more brain into their setting than Bethesda did with ES. If they don't want give woman important roles, they certainly have reason for that. -

Now that would rock totally! -
I think they've done something similar with the BF2 expansion as well. I find that pretty silly, just a waste of shelve-space to put boxes on it with a "DVD" sticker, just so you have to download that whole crap. But I'm waiting for the full version anyway, so pft.

Because women haven't traditionally had a large role in, er, imaginary places? Reminds me of when people complained that characters in Thief had American accents instead of proper English ones. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In G3, you play as some sort of a Gothic Knight. I don't want to see a woman doing that, that's kinda silly. This is not Oblivion. And I've never had any gripe with Thief, no matter whether playing the English or German version, so what's your point? -
Well, according to Amazon and some other Software stores, a Preorder Pack will come out tomorrow. Clicky

Your picture you provided CG looks total ass. Is that a man with a nobody-girl-face or what? I'm happy woman don't play an active role in G3, that keeps the setting more realistic. Nonetheless, according to the GS preview, G3 already delivers what were promised.... now they only need to get the remaining animations done right and fix the crashes. -

Some of the animations are still missing, but I'm sure they'll get into the final version. I also hope they improve the run-animation, because right now this looks more like biathlon. That jerk in the background doing Paraworld commercials should get shot. ARRRRGHHHHH. Nonetheless, I like the new interface. It's now better organized, and there's finally a decent Journal so when I pick up the game a month later, I still know what's going on. One thing though I don't quite like is the new look of the nameless hero. The E3 version of that guy looked better, better defined face, and I miss the ponytail. -

Here are some pictures from the "Art of Gothic 3" book. Now I don't know if that is included in the CE, or as a seperate purchase. I know I could preorder that Book for EUR 25. Don't know if there'll be an English translation. There's a preview (you can babelfish it if you want) and click through the thumbnails to get some pictures of an "almost finished version". Clicky Here's a shot of the interface. Doesn't look too shabby. I miss the distance fog. I thought that's a better solution to spare performance rather than doing a sort of faked Zdepth that just blurs the background. Meh. The preview is overall very positive and despite some crashes, they think this might be the "RPG of the Year". -

No, I have never read that they stated Gothic is an action-adventure. The only thing they wanted to make like an action-adventure is the combat, and I'm fine with that. I thought the combat kinda sucked in G1, G2 a little less, but I'm now happy to have full mouse-control in G3. Besides, the motivation of the Piranhas is to create choice- not so much via stats like NWN2 - but more with a well realised world and quests and guilds that fit into that world. That doesn't lessen it being a CRPG, it's just a different approach, but that doesn't make it an action-adventure either. NWN2 may have the FR sticky on the box, but that doesn't change my opinion that the world is still inferiorly realised. I see. But those "pure table-top RPGs" are slowly dying, and god thanks. Even minorities like NWN2 or DA won't change that. -

Haha, right about when hell freezes over But the two cant really be compared since G3 will have more in common with an action game like "Prince of Persia" than a pureblood CRPG. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You obviously don't learn much at your game Uni huh? What's a pureblood CRPG btw? -

I predict Gothic 3 will even destroy NWN2, but that's maybe just my fanboyism.... Oh, and I like the new Orcs. They're intelligent and more human/Ape like (Planet of the Apes anyone?), that makes them a little more scary if you ask me. Those typical DnD/LOTR Orcs really never impressed me - they were just dumb cannon-fodder... very boring. There's also a screenshot-gallery, I hope you'll find new ones among them. Clicky
