  1. A live action Dumbo directed by Tim Burton, no less. I'm surprised Disney wanted more from him after the disaster that was Alice...but what do I know?
  2. Tim Burton's Dumbo, lol. What animal will Johnny Depp be playing, I wonder?
  3. I liked Frozen more because the plot didn't feel *completely* predictable. I hated how Tangled opened up with spoiling some of the most important danged parts of the story for no reason. Maybe they didn't care because they figured everyone already knew how the story of Rapunzel went, but *I* didn't know how it went outside of "girl has very long hair, something something". It also took me a long while to appreciate the music in Rapunzel - I was pretty ambivalent in regards to all the music except "Mother Knows Best" for a while: it took me several rewatches/relistens to really appreciate Mandy Moore (voice of Rapunzel) in "When Will My Life Begin" and "I See the Light". I still like Frozen's better, but I like Tangled's well enough now, too. Also, IMO, Anna and Elsa are stronger, more relatable (for myself, anyways) characters than either Flynn or Rapunzel. So there's that, too.
  4. Anna literally died, Elsa was nearly murdered by Hans, Sven would've froze and drowned in the ice water sooner or later if Elsa hadn't had an epiphany after Anna was unfrozen, Olaf would've died sooner or later without Elsa, the parents are already dead, Kristoff...uh...Kristoff might've been okay. Sad if Anna hadn't magically been unfrozen, but probably okay. A LotR quote comes to mind..: "The quest stands upon the edge of a knife: stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all."
  5. I can forgive not correcting the "true love's first kiss" bit, because maybe he simply didn't have a better idea - I mean, if she was engaged and in love with Hans, then it seems like a pretty good idea, right? Maybe if he had known how *long* they had been engaged, he might've said something. At least he wasn't like the other trolls and wasn't trying to hook up Kristoff with Anna while Anna is literally dying that very moment from something they all already know about because it happened not that terribly long ago; yet, for some reason, they still don't care in the slightest about it. I can't stand "Fixer Upper" because of how horribly inappropriately placed it is in the movie, haha. It would be bad enough if it was just Elsa going crazy (followed by the castle siege...), but with Anna literally in the process of dying right there... But not telling the parents that they are doing literally the complete opposite of what they should be doing...while they're actually directly telling him their awful plans... Yeah, that's less forgivable.
  6. Does it bother you? Unless you have a pure or almost pure black desktop wallpaper (like me), you probably won't hardly ever notice, right? So...up to you as to how you deal with it.
  7. Well...I still don't like ultra-widescreen, so that makes me feel a little better... Looks nice, though. Transparent stand? Was trying to figure out how it was floating for a few seconds, don't think I've ever seen a monitor with a transparent stand, haha. Almost no backlight bleeding? All the LCD monitors I've ever had have always had some backlight bleeding - should post a picture of a black background: curious to see how nice the blacks look. But seriously, that thing is so wide...my eyes sometimes get strained at just 16:9 - I can't imagine getting used to that. So wide... I always forget that we have the same keyboards - always startles me a little whenever you post pictures. What're the speakers, out of curiosity?
  8. So when the king says immediately after, "No, we'll protect her: she can learn to control it, I'm sure of it. Until then, lock the gates, we'll reduce the staff, limit her contact with people, and keep her powers hidden from everyone...including Anna," ...the chieftain didn't feel like saying something, like maybe, "Uh, no, that's not quite what I meant..."?
  9. Yeah, I'm dying to run nethack on max settings!!! No, you are right. If it was just a gaming machine it would be overkill, but I do use my desktop pc for other purposes (3D modelling/rendering/animation etc., all stuff that loves as many cores and as much memory as possible) I might be misunderstanding you...but I was mocking you because you said 12Mb - twelve megabits, which is 1.5 megabytes. I PRESUME you meant 12 GIGAbytes, which is...uh...8192 times as much as 1.5Mb. This message may sound really stupid and patronizing if you got that already - it may sound that way even if you didn't! - so apologies in advance. Also, I have 16GB, myself, for little to no reason...pretty much for the sole purpose of making sure I never have to worry about not having enough RAM in the next ten years. @Sarex: looking forward to pictures so I can cry about still only using some crappy 1600x900 screen that's a million years old.
  10. Yes...perhaps there is... I know Disney trailers/advertisements are almost universally bad regardless of the quality of what it's advertising for...but that trailer for the Black Cauldron looks so bad. I say this, knowing that the trailers for Frozen made Frozen look like garbage and actually delayed me from watching Frozen...was the Black Cauldron any good?
  11. Sleeping Beauty is a little bit boring, I'll admit...it's mainly the music that makes Sleeping Beauty for me. Some really fantastic pieces inspired by Tchaikovsky. What the heck is the Black Cauldron? Fantasia 2000 is...a mixed bag for me: I thought it had some good segments, but also some...too abstract/silly segments, too (e.g. the opening flying whales segment, which sorta just made me scratch my head). I'm also not the biggest fan of Lilo & Stitch - it's okay, but...a little too modern for my tastes, and almost a little too...ADHD, for lack of a better term. Too crazy and all over the place for me, haha. Pocahontas is pretty decent, as well. "Savages" is the thing that makes Pocahontas most for me. I've not seen Meet the Robinsons or Home on the Range - Disney was been pretty invisible for me for the past decade or so, until about Tangled. I did, however, actually watch that Winnie the Pooh recently: it was...fair enough, I suppose. If there's anything I don't like about that movie, it's the fact that most of the voice actors sound really, really out of place - particularly Christopher Robin, who sounds like a three or four year old to me, and has the (lack of) range to match . Every time he talked, it made me cringe a little. It's also a little too directed at younger audiences, but I'm willing to overlook that because that's...probably how it should be for Winnie the Pooh. (edit): Why the heck is Vevo hosting that Little Mermaid song?
  12. What do you think were their actual instructions, then? (edit) Now that I think of it, maybe the parents did take the troll chieftain's instructions to extremes: he just implied that she should keep careful control of her powers, and that they should probably stay hidden (I'm assuming, since otherwise why remove Anna's memories of them?) - not that the sisters should not be together or talk to anybody else at all. Hmm.
  13. Ah...that sort of thing was way before my time. Funny thing is, a car isn't hardly any less comfortable movie viewing than the terribleness that you get at most local movie theaters. I've seen all of those, though, except the Aristocats. Sleeping Beauty was probably the best, followed by Sword in the Stone.
  14. Robin Hood was fourty years ago! How have you avoided seeing any since then? Mystical knowledgeable trolls who tell them that the best strategy for two sociable sisters who are as thick as thieves that the best thing to do would be to segregate and isolate them. Clearly, there wasn't much known about human psychology at this point in time...that, or troll psychology is very different, and they were all just idiots. Beauty and the Beast is great...though, like all Disney movies, not without its flaws. Watch it sometime, I've never seen the Aristocats. Always looked a bit mediocre to me. I can hear the voice actor for Baloo from the Jungle Book in that clip, though...
  15. Well it just frustrates him. I don't mind it (everyone in LOST had the same problem). At least Frozen motivates a bit why Elsa and Anna don't talk to one another. But Hiccup and his dad don't just not talk to each other, they don't talk to anyone else either, instead just assuming what the other will think/do and acting accordingly. Yeah...instead of it being directly Anna's or Elsa's fault, it's their dumb parents. Great. Beauty and the Beast is the best Disney 2D film, IMO. ...Even if Belle's face IS inconsistently drawn throughout the whole movie, which it is.
  16. I don't like the vast majority of food - let's say...about 90-95% of most normal foods, including everything I see composing that burger, besides the lime - so if this thread moves towards food instead, you guys will just be making me more depressed. Do you really want to do that?
  17. Fair enough....you right on this one, that poem is definitely not a " feel-good " poem. Its probably not appropriate ? Well, apparently, you found the direction towards Disney songs and animation in general depressing, so, you know...whatever floats your boat, pal, but yeah, not exactly what I'd call an uplifting poem.
  18. ...you thought that the thread was getting too depressing, and that I shouldn't be so cynical... and you thought quoting from THAT was appropriate? I don't mind the "much of the problems exist simply because the characters them themselves" angle: that's like...the basis of the human condition. It's just...for some reason, I can't identify with or like any of the characters. I don't know why...I just can't. It clearly has nothing to do with that, though, since that's pretty much the majority of Frozen, and I like all of the characters in Frozen, so...
  19. Yeah, my comment was purely on the style of animation: I think they have a few good movies. The first Shrek is a classic, even if it isn't perfect, and I liked Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Megamind decently enough. I have never liked How to Train Your Dragon, though, and I didn't much care for Chicken Run and I haven't seen the others you listed. I've also've never liked Madagascar or Kung Fu Panda, either. Dreamworks is very hit and miss with me. (e): What do people love about How to Train Your Dragon? For some reason, I've just never been able to like it - not sure why. All the characters annoy me like crazy throughout the entire movie - the chieftain, the son, the girl - the plot and action is a little too over the top and showy for my tastes, and I don't like the animation. I just can't hack it.
  20. Well...I like Dreamworks' animation style even less than Pixar's. The only Dreamworks movie I've seen where I really like the animation style is Prince of Egypt...but that's (mostly) 2D, which is kind of cheating for this discussion, so...haha.
  21. That quote is terrible...AND depressing. I have no wish for myself or anyone else to die for some imaginary entity that's supposed to represent a collection of people with supposedly shared values when we could just as well not...especially when, as history has shown time and time again, the vast, vast majority of war is never altruistic or serving much decent purpose at all. And...it's depressing that that idea is somehow still seen as a good value to have even as more relatively pointless and/or fruitless conflicts are still being fought today.
  22. Disney/Pixar movies tend to be full of plot holes like that - they tend to be more about...emotional impact and appeal than any sort of logic. I mean, c'mon, Frozen opens up with the King and Queen being completely stupid by deciding that the TROLL's advice in segregating and isolating Elsa and Anna was good and then actually fully implementing it even though all signs pointed towards it failing even while they were still alive. It sucks when their lack of attention to/care for detail takes you out of the movie. That hardly surprises me. Almost all of the source material where Disney gets their inspiration from always ends horribly - in fact, though I'm sure there must be a few, I don't know of any that don't. Whereas I have the opposite reaction: I don't generally like Pixar's style of animation, and I tend to much prefer Disney's. Give me Frozen or Tangled over Toy Story or Monsters Inc. or the Incredibles, etc., any day. Although I am willing to admit that characters do sometimes look odd in Frozen: I think Elsa looks really weird at the end of that YouTube clip, for example. Still, I prefer it over Pixar's animation.
  23. People, especially young people, think intelligence means being an ****. I can't believe somebody went back and actually replied to that. I guess my point was that...speaking for myself, I am fairly cynical and chronically depressed (though I do go through bouts of not so bad periods, such as now). It's not like I desire to be how I am, or think it's smart or something - I just am. I would happily be...uh...happy all the time if I could be. Similarly, I think other people are the same way...and sometimes, they may come up with rationalizations for how they are - such as it being the "intelligent" thing to be, because...maybe they don't want to believe that there is something wrong with them? I would think that sort of thing comes as a result of the depression and cynicism, not as a reason for actually being that way - even if it's sometimes presented the latter way. But that's just my own personal experience. Sometimes - at the worst of times - I feel as though bothering trying to be happy is stupid, or...worse, that I don't deserve it. But...I don't think that's clear and reasonable thinking, and I would definitely not argue such right now. I think the same might be able to be said for the "presenting it as though it's the only reasonable thing" problem. (e): rewriting as I think about it more
  24. I think so! I tried watching Fox and the Hound for the first time recently, and BOY, is it a slow-paced movie. I actually couldn't get through it it was so slow. Give me Robin Hood, give me Watership Down, give me Sleeping Beauty, give me the Sword in the Stone...but apparently I couldn't handle Fox and the Hound.
