I remember reading that Anno was pleased that Rebuild wouldn't face the same creative restraints that the original NGE did. My reaction to remembering that he said that after now having actually seen Rebuild: Yeah, but if I don't watch anything post-2000, then it's not a problem to begin with! I mean, sure, I keep breaking that rule to try out random stuff, but the key figure is that I have repeatedly regretted it roughly 9/10 times, . I presume this was a joke, because no, I wasn't saying that at all, . Also, I edited in a few more sentences to that section while you weren't looking, . I've discovered that I have way less memory of the latter half of the show - some of the stuff more towards the ending here I've basically been like "whoa, what the hell is that, I don't remember that". That probably makes sense, since you're probably more likely to remember the first hour of a 10 hour marathon of watching a new show more than the eighth, ninth, or tenth hour of the 10 hour marathon. And this is why I never watch shows like that...except for NGE, which I inexplicably did for reasons still unknown to even me! For myself, it should be purely Cardcaptor Sakura and Devil Lady at this time...and maybe Stein;Sgate if I want to test out to see whether I hate the show before y'all finish before I ever try it, . As for Princess Tutu, that was originally slated to be watched, but for the month of October, I think there will be a little bit of a hiatus for anime in general on that particular front. To be re-visited at some point in the future, .

No, I think this is the part where you proceed to have a great regular season and get hyped up as a serious contender going into the playoffs, only to lose to you-know-who in a complete heart-breaker once again, . (...Followed by you-know-who getting demolished in the NFCCG...once again. Maybe the key is to have the Cowboys and Packers play each other in the NFCCG to begin with. At least one of us would make it to the Super Bowl that way.)

In a fit of insomnia, I finally finished Legendary Idol Eriko by binge-watching the rest of it. The main story and everything motivating the series kind of concluded episode 40, which left about ten extra episodes, which is precisely where I stopped watching like...a month-plus or so ago - whatever was the last time I talked about Eriko. I just couldn't find the motivation to watch anymore when it seemed like the rest would be a little more on the "silly" and "nonsense" side. However, I was pleasantly surprised a couple of episodes in when the show suddenly introduced a small new arc that was more low-key and simple about Eriko simply trying to connect not with just her closest friends and family in light of growing as a person over the course of the show, but also with classmates she'd never really gotten to know because of her way too busy life. It was nice to have something a little less serious and crazy while still feeling like a worthwhile story to end the series. Eriko even manages to make frenemies with a super tsundere* girl that's hated her guts since the moment she appeared in the show like 30 episodes earlier! Happy times! *Tsundere might be the wrong word to use here, because I don't THINK she has a crush on Eriko, although it was a little odd because she took some time to watch her shows and listen to her songs and would deliberately create situations that would force them to interact with each other, so who knows, maybe it is accurate, but if so, mild subtext at best. ...And it's nice to have a couple of shows out of the way - plus, the NGE re-watch is almost finished, too, . The feeling of having a much greater appreciation for (and understanding of) NGE on a second watch has only continued, and, well, let's just say it's a very different experience from the first watch, and it definitely feels to have been worth the time. Six episodes left, guess I'll figure out how I really feel about the original ending soon... Oh, that makes sense too, especially because any CGI work you outsource should be relatively easily modifiable, whereas with traditional methods...well, yeah, either it's going to look horridly out of place or you'll have to re-draw it.

I think I said more or less exactly this when I was contemplating The End of Evangelion and how incredibly quickly it was produced vs. the insanity that was Rebuild... I think one thing Sarex(?) said was that CGI tends to give way more creative control over exactly what appears on screen as opposed to hand-drawn stuff where...you know, a lot of what you get is what you get and you have to make do with it, and it's not easy to make adjustments after the fact as opposed to George Lucas/Hideaki Anno-ing it up however you please even years after the fact. But yeah, I would've loved to have seen how expensive it was to make the Rebuild movies. I suppose that particular factor must appeal a lot to many of these hack fraud directors, .

1. Looks gosh-awful, as per usual. 2. That choppiness is really bad, especially when so much of it is CGI. Hell yeah...but doesn't really seem like something a show, much less shows, would ever go for. I also wonder how expensive it would be to produce a full-length pixel-art show compared to CGI. It looks pretty good, though some of the characters and their designs are a little out there. As for the gameplay, it's pretty much just a pleasant, atmospheric story game, . I suppose if there was something I'd hate more than the Nadia filler, it'd probably be something like the worst parts of Love Live...

Absolutely: I've seen a lot of good-looking anime pixel art styles over the years between a number of games and random artists, but I'm struggling to think of something off the top of my head. I don't think I'd place the style in that particular video too highly, but it's not bad either. Probably won't ever happen for a real show, though, if I had to guess. I saw a few people psychopaths like that, too, but they were mostly booed by the people with brains. One person psychopath said they didn't even really notice anything difference, while another person psychopath said it was awesome, classic Gainax humor just like Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill. No, you read that right, they listed shows that weren't by Gainax as best exemplifying Gainax. No, really: I initially thought this person was a troll, but the rest of what they posted made it pretty clear that they just needed to get their pants in the proper place - firmly secured on their head. Just from a stylistic viewpoint of how the songs are done and presented, K-On is so clearly superior to Love Live! in pretty much every way...and never mind the rest of the show. Throw away the tape and move on, . That and it's a 2011 show. If it breaks your brain, it ought to break mine.

Yeah, don't feel compelled to watch it on my behalf, it's probably even more frustrating on the whole than the original NGE was, and the payoff isn't as good IMO. My rating of the show is also overly generous because I'm mostly not taking the terrible filler episodes that were not written/intended by Anno into account (indeed, apparently he made his own cut of the show which he released on laserdisk waaay back, and the totality of stuff he took from the filler episodes was a mere fifteen minutes). It's probably worth watching if you want to experience a strange proto-NGE adventure show (and I read on Wikipedia that NGE was actually originally intended to be a sequel to Nadia, but they couldn't obtain the rights to it so they had to sever the connection). I went poking around for how people feel about the filler, and was pleasantly surprised to see the general reaction is about as bad as mine was: "they ruined the characters", "none of it matters at all, it's totally skippable, so do not hesitate to do so", "jimminy freaking crickets, those are the worst episodes of any show I've ever seen", et cetera. Even if they did, would they care? The demographics are the demographics, after all. @Steins;Gate: What are the chances that I'd like Steins;Gate, folks?

Neon Genesis Nadia: The End of Blue Water. The last handful of episodes beat the snot out of the preceding filler episodes, at least. Thanks, Mr. Anno - very cool. At least you knew your own characters, unlike the hack frauds that took over for you for a bit. My official review for the show: 7/10: Has some of the absolute worst filler I've ever seen in a show (roughly 9 episodes could be classified as such), but pretty good outside of that. The characters never quite developed how I wanted them to and the story kind of stops, starts, and sputters a lot towards the end...but it's still worth a watch if you want a classic adventure with some extra oomph to it. Just don't be afraid to skim through the filler episodes, because they are truly terrible.

The Vast of Night (2019). I super don't know how I feel about his one. The style of it, with its insane long takes where you just have a girl working an old phoneline switchboard for literally like ten minutes straight without interruption trying to figure out what's going on in her town stressed me the hell out (in a good way - also, holy crap, what a scene that was!)...and the dialogue and characters and scenes were all nice and well-done. Really, the big problem with it is that the film is exactly what it portrays itself as being, there aren't really any twists, and it leans a bit too heavily on its style without doing something new. Even saying that, I really rather enjoyed it. Difficult one for me to really nail down my feelings on. (e): RLM originally recommended this in the summer of 2020 (aka CY 0 aka Coronavirus Year 0) as basically being a very well-done "non-movie movie" that's totally built on atmosphere. So take that as you will. I seem to have seen a few of these now, between Jeanne Dielman and The Assistant...and I seem to like or at least appreciate them.

Yes, it was the example of "embarrassing shows for embarrassing people" that I could come up with off the top of my head. Now, I didn't really know too much about it at the time, but my prognostication for determining what shows are about had a pretty good feeling, and I think that's mostly but not entirely borne out. If nothing else, something a little more positive came out of it in K-On, . Though I think it really depends on how you get to "average". Love Live! seems to be a mix of "hey, some actually genuinely good parts...aaaaand some actually genuinely bad parts, but mostly just kind of average/mediocre". There are other shows that are very good for the most part but do a few certain important things so horribly wrong that it brings the entire show down to sort of just an average "meh" by souring you on the whole thing...and then there are other shows that are below that but still not exactly bad but do a few certain things just right that make you like them more than you perhaps should but still are kind of average on the whole. Lots of different ways to get to an average score, and being consistently mediocre is probably the worst thing you can do because you can't tell if it's ever going to get better while you're watching it but it's not bad enough you necessarily want to pre-emptively drop it. As for the show as a whole...what a shame, but not really, because I never wanted to see their horrifying faces anyways and this just 100% confirms I won't if you can't even come up with a small recommendation. Seriously, their faces are frightening, .

Nadia, episode 31. It was pretty good and feels the most like the original show - characters felt like they made sense, they were properly motivated, the stuff that happened felt like it mattered, animation was good again. So a good continuation for episode 30 which had actually finally been a decent episode. ...Okay, with that said, episodes 32 and 33 were top-tier disasters of the highest sort. I can't even...holy crap. SuperS is probably the closest thing to what this feels like, but somehow it feels even worse than that, because for as much as SuperS made me discontent with the show and sometimes even mad at even my favorite characters (like that singing episode where Minako was a huge dink to Makoto), never did I want the characters to just die. I thought those other six episodes were bad, but this was truly next-level awful. It was bad enough I actually left in the middle of the episode to go get some headphones so I could play some music over the episode and just read the subtitles only. Worst thing is, what happens in these episodes is...it's really difficult to encapsulate why it feels so wrong and awful. It's like none of the characters are themselves but instead were replaced by some really strange and flanderized caricatures that feels like some really gosh-awful fanfiction, combined with episode plots that are totally and utterly irrelevant to and disconnected from anything and everything, bad animation that would be forgivable if it was just a scene or two but just keeps up the entire episode. And why is everyone always constantly yelling at each other in these episodes? Filler episodes have never been a problem with me in shows, often just the contrary, but the filler episodes in the second half of this show have felt like they occur in an entirely different universe from the non-filler episodes.

NFC North and NFC East both look pretty bad, though I think the Vikings will recover somewhat - they're better than their record indicates (and I actually put my money where my mouth was in saying that, as I actually made the incredibly foolish decision to pick the Vikings to beat the Seahawks this week in my pick-em this past week, which I almost changed about five or six times...but apparently I was onto something, because they pretty soundly beat the Seahawks). Think the Vikings and the Packers are just about shoo-ins for the playoffs if for no other reason than both teams having the guy.

Dope practical effect from "Sh! The Octopus" (1937). Apparently achieved with the help of being in black and white - makeup that wouldn't look any different than normal in black and white under a certain light and then you change the lighting mid-scene so that the makeup will show up. Packers @ 49ers Sunday Night Football gave me football cancer, I'm pretty sure. That was some atrocious garbage. Between phantom roughing the passer, phantom defensive pass interferences, calling a trip on a defensive player when they're sacking the QB, Davante Adams getting knocked out on an extremely obvious spearing with no penalty called, missing an obvious grounding that gifted them seven points...what an absolute disaster. Guess I should be happy that Rodgers pulled some vintage Rodgers witchcraft and still managed to win the game starting the final drive with 37 seconds and no timeouts, but my gosh. Also can't believe our defensive line AND offensive line controlled most of the game, when: 1. The 49ers have had steller offensive line play the past couple of weeks with some star talent; 2. The Packers are starting two rookies on offensive line and were missing both their HoF LT (Bakhtiari) and their elite LG that was filling in for LT at an elite level (Jenkins) while starting some literal nobody named Yoshi at LT; 3. Packers' DL have been somewhere between bad and atrocious this year as well as last year; 4. 49ers' DL is one of the strongest in the game. None of that makes any sense to me at all, but I'm glad we won.

And for being made by Madhouse, it doesn't even look all that good. ...I mean, it looks a lot better than most of the crap that came out around that time, but still, . I'll keep you updated on Nadia. I need to watch the next episode of Sakura something fierce (and Devil Lady), but a busier than average week prevented that...and I won't have time today, either. MAYBE TOMORROW.

Deltarune 2. Will I ever get tired of Toby Fox and his ridiculous Undertale shtick? Almost certainly not, because this stupid crap is great.

Another episode of Nadia, another episode that is primarily characters just yelling at each other over dumb stuff. However, unlike the previous episodes, this one felt like it was actually written by some of the people that made earlier episodes, because instead of being dreadfully boring and annoying, there was actually some fun and enjoyment in it. Not only that, but the episode's animation looked like it was made by the original animation team. The next episode...GASP, actually had something materially happen in regards to the plot, even if it only was at the last couple of minutes of the episode and the episode ended on a cliffhanger. Incredible. Could've really done without the 6 or so utterly worthless episodes in between, but maybe we're finally at the end of the tunnel here. Maybe. Maybe after I've finished Sakura and need something totally different yet slightly familiar, . Just kidding, I'm never watching K-On, I already told you that. And if I ever write any posts to the contrary at some point in the future, you can rest assured that they're lies told by my evil doppelganger. However, my evil doppelganger isn't so bad, really, so you should continue to converse with him.

Probably nothing too crazy like that - plus, it wasn't the right shape, it was too long and thin. Which I still think is odd, because all of the really hot peppers do generally look more like reapers or ghosts, i.e. thicker and shorter. Don't know what it was, maybe just a mutant of some normally-not-that-hot variety - that occasionally happens. I love the taste of jalapenos, but 99% of them are somewhere between "literally not spicy at all" and "a little spicy". Except once every blue moon, maybe one out of every couple hundred or so (I eat peppers on/with pretty much everything, though like I said, nothing too extreme), I get one that's somehow hotter than your average habanero, and it's always bit of a shock, especially since I use weaker peppers more plentifully (and sometimes more directly) than hotter ones...for obvious reasons. So I don't know for sure what that was or what happened, but that unknown pepper was really freaking hot. Let me clarify: I think habaneros are very hot. But...they're not like, in the realm of "this will make you have a seizure or throw up if you try to eat one when you're not that into spicy foods" like something crazy (e.g. a reaper) would, and for someone who eats spicy food pretty much every day, they're hot but they're not going to kill me. So relatively speaking, habaneros aren't that hot, . I've been eating spicy food since I was a kid because my parents loved spicy food, which is presumably why I'm a bit more resistant both on both tongue and digestive tract levels. However, my stomach still feels like a volcano even though I ate hours ago, so that's not great.
