Putin's speech today doesn't rank all that high on the Periclean scale, but I suppose it doesn't matter. It also didn't contain any new or otherwise pertinent information, as far as I've gathered from the reports I've seen so far, but I suppose that doesn't matter, either. Transnistria wasn't mentioned at all, I think, but I could be wrong there.

You are not wrong about Transnistria.

but in his other speech, he mentioned tax increase

  3. Goal nr. 02/2024 has been achieved few days ago :)

February 25, 21:30 – New Game + of Dark Souls: Remastered on PS4 has been completed :). The second ending was of course To Link the Fire, which gave me another trophy in my Platinum run. During this run, the goal was all miracles trophy, and all missing weapon ascension trophies, with the exception of Knight's one, for which I need to defeat Sif one more time, and then run all the way to Anor Londo blacksmith. During NG+, I have found out, that this game started to feel much easier with melee character than with the sorcerer one. The only exception was Kalameet, which was destroying me for almost 3 hours and almost always around 10-20% HP mark. I am just happy, that I have learned how to control my rage, as few years ago, I would be most likely in need of a new controller 😄

  4. Macron is the first western leader, to speak about the possibility of deployment of western troops to Ukraine.

He also announced coalition for providing medium to long range ammunition to ukraine for deep strikes against Russia.

Last time it happened I suggested S-200 as the only plausible option if it was Ukraine. Still a lot of problems with that though- right on the edge of effective range and S-200 launchers are fixed, not mobile. At ~270km from the front line there's a very narrow range of places it could have been launched from, basically a semi circle around Vuhledar (Kurakhove <--> Veliyka Novosilka). While they might be able to jury rig a launcher it would not be trivial since the rocket is 7t and 10m long. Can't just bung it into a S-300 TEL or similar.

There are numerous claims, that UA is retrofitting all of their S-200s, with modern electronics, and that currently the only common thing it has with soviet S-200 is husk and explosives. And there are also rumours, that they can be launched from a specially jointly developed NATO-UA launcher, which can launch various ex-soviet and NATO standard missiles. Someone already talked about the name of this project, but, I can’t remember it.

the first half is for me pretty plausible. More, than friendly fire. As A-50 airplane’s primary purpose was to scan sky for UA missiles and drones, and AD batteries. It is simply hard to believe, that they would allow their own AD, which they commanded, to shoot at themselves.

the second half, it seems a little bit unrealistic at the moment? Unless someone knows, the exact name of this project, and can confirm/deny if it is real or not.

Also, there have been first official talk about UA KIAs, since 2022. Zelenskyi has stated in interview, that number of UA KIAs is 31000, and number of RU KIAs is 180000. He did not specified number of WIAs nor MIAs on UA side. On the RU side, they are counting with 500000 WIA+MIA combined.

  6. Kalameet is finally defeated on NG+.

It was royal pain in the ass. It took me today 2 hours of attempts. Most of them under 20%. But then, I always got obliterated by two random attacks, which I was not able to properly block nor outroll. Rinse and repeat. Sigh. My first attempt was one of the best, but I choose the wrong weapon, and had to fight him almost 10 minutes. I got him down to 10 or so %, and the I did some stupid things and ran out of Estus. And I did not have Humanities on my fast access bar. Sigh. Reward for that was 2 more hours wiping the floor with myself 🤷‍♂️

I can say, that this fight was the only fight, which have been harder as melee, compared to my previous Platinum Runs with sorcerer build.

  7. Today, I had a roadblock day in Dark Souls Remastered. With the defeat of Nito today, Ihave finished all base game bosses and moved to DLC again. This time, it was Manus time again. Aand I got owned badly… needed around 20 attempts to defeat him. It was my typical scenario. First attempt getting to 10%, and then doing something clumsy, and then getting asskicked next half hour… anyway. For some reason, Manus spammed a lot more spells than in NG (is that his typical NG+ behaviour?) so whenever I was cheering, that I will defeat him, he cast two or three spells in a row, and I got destroyed. So after a hour or so, I needed psycho hygiene, so I went for a few minutes to grind for souls at Painted World, until, I had enough for two more levels in Attunement, and then I have fully upgraded Paladin’s Armor, and finally replaced Ornstein’s one, which I have used for almost 100 hours. The Paladin one is a little bit heavier, but has much bigger Physical and Magical Resistances, which came in handy against Manus. And again. First try was almost perfect, but he cast two spells in a row again 🙈 Then I had to die few more times in silly situations, before he went down.

The only boss missing except Gwyn is Kalameet. Which I want to see without his tail again. I have never achieved this in NG+, so this is my ultimate goal 🙈 I will be most likely stuck there for few days, because of that 🙈

  8. Ukrainian army lost 18 Su bombers since the start of the war. Most of them before receiving StormShadow/SCALP missiles. Which is more, then they had in 2021. Despite that, they still have more of them than in 2021, as they have mastered the survivability of the equipment on ground, during the RU missile/drone barrages. The biggest issue is, slowly depleting pile of long range ammunition usable by them.

  9. One of the most prominent Russian war blogger, nationalist Murz, who have been organizing a lot of successful fundraisers for Russian army (especially drones), and probably the only Russian, who did not steel from the donations, has allegedly committed suicide, after reporting on his Telegram, that 16k Russian soldiers has fallen and 300 of their vehicles has been “dismantled” at Avdiivka. According to some Ukrainian sources, this is considered a crucial loss for fighting capabilities of several units on the frontline, especially the FPV operators, due to his well organized fundraising and supply of these units, which is now gone. Meanwhile, Solovyov is doing his best to smear as much dirt on this guy as possible.

Any weapons for the Ukrainians is a good thing. But the most important thing they need now, more than anything else, is artillery (both tubes and shells).

Czech Republic found 800k - 1m combined NATO and Soviet shells, which can be transported right away. Canada already pledge to finance part of the transport.

Wouldn't want to be an F-16 pilot trying to bomb Rostov or something, even with Russia's shovel based AD.

I think F-16s have enough long range ammunition type, to be able to hit military structures around Rostov, without leaving the Ukrainian airspace. 🤷‍♂️ Although I bet, that the first targets would be in Bilhorod People’s Republic.

in other news, German Bundestag has voted in favour of providing long range weaponry, to be able to hit targets deep behind the front line. Some people say, that the wording of the bill can be interpreted that even Taurus could be provided to Ukraine. But I bet SPD will find few more reasons, why not to 😞

Was this the 3rd AB refusing to go into the city? I vaguely recall reading this but now cannot find it, feh.

    NYT reporting - https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/20/us/politics/ukraine-prisoners-avdiivka-russia.html

    https://archive.is/ep3wO

Surprised we're not seeing much crowing on Telegram by Russians though, if the prisoner haul is that great

Official UA statement on that article.

It is not the first article by NYT, which is heavily disputed. 🤷‍♂️

  13. After some break, I was able to get back into Dark Souls Remastered, and decided to challenge Artorias again. I have found out, that Lifehunt Scythe+5 with maxed out Pyromancy Flame and Chaos Fireball and classic Fireball is a very good combination to break his buffing pose. I have much less tries this time as in NG, and Inhad also a feeling, that the arena lagged less than in first cycle, which made me avoiding his attacks much easier.

After that, I have run and saved Sif in the Oolacile Dungeon, and went to challenge him right away for his alternate cutscene. This time, I was able to defeat him on first try, despite using wrong rings.

The last boss today, was Dark Sun Gwyndolin. And again for alternate cutscene, as I have not defeated the Gwynevere this time. After that, I have done few more upgrades from new souls, and maxed out Fire Weapon for one more Trophy.

I fully agree about the first part. I'm not sure how likely that is, though.

It's like the situation with the young woman who was apprehended by the police and social services when she was about to jump off a bridge and kill herself. "You think you came here just in time but you're twenty years too late" is a fairly devastating point to make. (And as this is an internet forum, I feel compelled to point out that this is not a general statement: not every dire situation is such that someone else is fully or partly responsible for it and should have acted earlier.)

This seems to be interesting, especially the wording used in the proposal.

"the supply of additional long-range weapons systems and ammunition needed for Ukraine (...) to be able to carry out targeted strikes under international law on strategically important targets located far into the Russian aggressors’ rear"

Germany will vote on this soon.

  15. It looks like freshly rotated 3rd Storm Brigade and Azov Brigade are raiding ruins of Avdiivka during night time. It is said, that they have inflicted 1400 casualties on drunken Russian soldiers in last 24 hours. Should be taken with a hefty load of salt, but there are so many videos popping out lately, that the russian casualties will be not minuscule. 🤷‍♂️

Won't happen, nature of the game means the West won't want their weapons to be hitting Russia proper.  Ukrainians have their own stuff that can hit Russia, they've done it quite a bit in the past few weeks.

well som high officials in some EU states (including Germany) have voiced, that this should be allowed as soon as possible. But I am on with you on this one. Unfortunately.

Also speaking about manpower in my previous post, since the jailing of prominent Bashkir activist in Russia, There are numerous reports, that Bashkir commanders are keeping their men away from active fighting. And there is also a lot of reports of Tatar mistreatment at the front, which could lead to similar outcome.

  17. 2 hours ago, xzar_monty said:

The relevant calculation, though, is to see whether Russia could conquer Ukraine with something resembling this casualty rate through the fact that Ukraine will run out of manpower much earlier than Russia will.

If the 1:7 death ratio is real, the math says, that Russia will run out of manpower sooner than Ukraine, unless Putin borrows DPRK army as well. Not to mention, that Russia could sustain the equipment losses, which they currently have for maximum 2 years. In some equipment it is projected just about 1 year. So less equipment will mean more meat assaults which would mean more favourable KD ratio for Ukraine.

But first, the EU and US should finally wake the **** up their factories, and the NATO have to allow strikes in Belgorod, and other bordering areas in Russia, which does not allow UA to perform at full capacity 🤷‍♂️

  18. According to reports, RU lost 47k soldiers since October at Avdiivka front. The most casualties have been incurred on them during first and last month. This averages to 300 casualties per day. According to general staff, the casualty ratio was 1:7 in favour to UA. According to documented OSINT, the equipment destruction was 1:12 - 1:25 ratio in favour of UA. depending on type of equipment- the worst for RU were manpower transporting vehicles, which goes in line with high casualty rate of RU army. Some russian soldiers from this frontlines are saying, that up to 70% of their brigade manpower is gone.

Avdiivka had pre war population of 32000 people. As being said above, the biggest issue for the defense were non-existent fortifications behind the initial lines made in 2014.

someone made a calculation, that if Russia would like to conquer whole Ukraine, with this casualty rate, they would need 8 billion soldiers 🤦‍♂️

  19. For me the perfect length for informational video is between 12 and 15 minutes. Longer videos I tend to skip more often than not. For LPs, I do not mind to watch two hours videos. And yes, there is a bigger chance, that I watch 10x 10 minutes series over a week, than a single 100 minute long 🤷‍♂️ and yes, I ignore shorts as well. They are pest for shortening the attention span…
