Of course. They are a business to make money. That is why they aren't bankrupt and deep in debt TSR was. One just needs to be choosier in buying d20 System material. Find a third party studio that you like and go from there. The two best are Malhavoc Press and Necromancer Games, with Green Ronin being a close third. Its the electonics front that is irking me now. Unless the game is from a developer I trust, like Obsidian, I am going to ignore all future DnD releases.

D&D as in 1e, 2e, 3e, 3.5, basic to immortal set, and even Chain Mail. It would be all gone, nonexistant. DEAD. TSR was bankrupt and deep in debt when WotC stepped in.

Its not sad because if they didn't we wouldn't have DnD, period. What is sad is how they have whored it. I don't run baseline DnD any more. Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved is my baseline. It would be kickarse to to see an AE CRPG.

Well, in Fallout you didn't have to help the vault or stopping the Master, or are you forgetting that ending. EDIT: Of course Irenicus would have came after me, but he would be on my turf and not me being on his. That was a lost opportunity in role playing. You get a stronghold, you could build up defenses, recruit individuals, then when Irenicus does come a knocking then you can trap him and his sister on your own terms.

I am pulling numbers from what I consider epic and what I don't consider epic. If a game is around 30 hours in length its not epic. Plain and simple. Also I never really bought into the whole motivations in BG2. My character didn't give a rat's ass about Imoen nor did he care about revenge, but Bioware chose to ignore that and dictate how I should play my character.

I don't like Rolemaster. Severely complicated to create a character which takes hours with two seconds the campaign starts he is dead and you have to take hours out of the game to make a new character.

The three main books you need are the PHB, DMG, and MM. The SRD has the majority of the info you will need but there are some key items missing, of course. It also depends on the campaign. The d20 System is easy to learn and master, but kind of quirky. Other system you might be interested are GURPS from Steve Jackson Games, HARP from Iron Crown Enterprises, and Earth Dawn from Wiz Kids (formally was from FASA).

That level of dedication might even to goad me to buy this game even if I don't play it.
