  1. I was just thinking about items in another thread, because I can still name a ton of BG2 weapons and where to find them despite me having played 120 hours of BG, when compared to PoE where I can only think of the pantry door bought from the trader, in Gilded Vale and that Eder wore forever in my playthrough. Weapon skins in PoE are somewhat unspectacular as well as their inventory icon. The descriptions are on par though. This is part of the problem, but also because you carry a lot of standard weapons for a long time plus the crafting system allowed you to keep the few memorable weapons you find relevant for a long time. I hope they drop the crafting system and instead give out more unique weapons although I know it is hard to swap out a weapon that you carried for a long time.
  2. PoE for me is 30 months away from my mind and I sadly have to say that, while I thoroughly enjoyed the writing AND the game, I can not recall a whole lot of any quest or the main story. Some fragments remain, like Aloths personal quest that I really liked. I also really liked, in terms of simple writing, that the shield Eder was using throughout my entire game, was a pantry door, which was just a stroke of genius and the most unique weapon I have seen in a RPG especially in PoE which lacked memorable items. Speaking of this, something similarly awesome, but much more present, is Lilarcor, speaking two-handed sword in BG2. As far as quests go, I think the Elder Scrolls and Fallout Series (all of them) offered a lot of totally ridiculous quests, something which I enjoy. The pornstar quest in Fallout 2 comes to mind, or the Last Voyage of the Constitution in Fallout 4, the battleship manned by robots. On more serious topics, ME2 and 3 allowed you to heal the Genophage a virus that made a certain alien race sterile, which has a huge impact in the forthcoming centuries. So basically everything that leaves you a choice, but with no immediate effect on the gameplay. Also Tyranny offered similar things, where you could totally go your own way, side with one, all or no factions, but it would mainly change things in the power structure, not in the direct gameplay unless you worked for it really hard.
  3. Importing a save transfers choice, not character. Upon starting Deadfire you will have to create a character anyway, just as you would when starting new game. Deadfire takes place years after first game. Whom you traveled with won’t matter, just their endings will. The only returning companions are: Eder, Pallegina and Aloth. Characters who died in your PoE1 playthrough, wont be resurrected for the sequel. Well thank you for the info! So it is indeed more like the transition from BG 1 to 2, where everyone but a certain core moved on. And good to know that you do not transfer the character, so I can rethink this or use my savgame multiple times! That was really helpful.
  4. I was wondering the same thing. Basically I did one playthrough with a barbarian, but I am not sure if I wanted to play one again in the second iteration. I also never touched the game again after I finished for reasons I do not really know, nor do I think I would do another playthrough until April 3. Thing is I also do not recall the whole storyline at all, or whether there were companion interactions that are carried over. If it really is just small details there is no harm in doing either of the options I guess. However I did the endfight with the grieving mother and Hiravias, instead of my normal party that included Aloth and Kana/Sagani. Will Deadfire put me into the same party upon import? I recall being really bumped out in ME1 where I did not import at first just to find out that a companion of mine was dead that (Wrex) that is rather hard to save on the first playthrough, while I accomplished this in my savegame. You also do not get to know this until you are halfway through the campaign. BG2 in comparison did it well, which I played without having played the predecessor, and where no choices where carried over and you started as a clean slate. Is there a good summary somewhere apart from a wiki where you can read up on the main story, a small lore background, as well as something that gives you the context for Deadfire?
  5. I usually make a ranger first in every game, but in PoE I hit the companion bug within the first act and had to restart. I then made a barbarian, which is somethin I never played but I liked the AoE focus and the fact that in PoE every attribute was affecting every class in some way, because: I just hate restricted and limited characters, which is why I always played Bard in BG, I just hate playing dumb characters or being "forced" to put my points in something else than intelligence to be effective. So in that context I really enjoyed the way PoE handled stuff, although I did not grasp the meta enough, nor do I really want to make the most effective character possible. Companion choice is valid, though. I was not a huge fan of Durance, although the character had an appeal, but you can not really do without a priest. At the same time I liked Eder, so I would have been rather bummed out, had I made a tank myself. However if the game allows you to think out of the box and complete the game with different setups then this is also very nice. I just hope in PoE 2 (having no idea of the mechanics yet) that the mechanics are more transparent than before. That said, I really do not know if I would carry over my barbarian from a save that is 30 months old by now. Do we know what is being carried over with the savegame? Does it matter if I have not bought the White March? Do I miss out when starting new, like companion interaction through done quests?
