  1. Indeed. the "ism" suffix is commonly used in words that describe certain prejudices and forms of discrimination. I don't believe however that "humanism" is contextually incolved in this reckoning as it isn't a derogatory term. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is why I didn't say Droidism as it would sound like some odd religion based on emotional detachment ,worshiping some divine machine ,and meditation by plugging oneself into a power-socket....a rather short lived religion. Something Atton most likely wouldn't do. A racist is a person who has an irrational hatred and as a result of such ignorance partakes in the discrimination of cats ,dogs ,birds and such other species. It couldn't mean of other human races ,there is only the Human Race. Do we say the races of Ostrich and ,Penguin ,Manx and ,Abyssinian ,Doberman and ,Poodle? Of course not that would be stupid...... Obviously a Humanist is an alien who doesn't like humans. There is no mention of Michelangelo in the star wars universe! So that is why I said Droidist. Sentient Droids: "Aid of it's friends" only matters if it goes against its programing or self preservation protocol (what other protocols factor in this I do knot know) because if its friend is its master then it does not really count. The Twylek in K1 made T3M4 to be good ,but as you said the influence system does make it seem T3 has developed its own sense of self. The Assassin Droid in K1 that broke from its programing could be sentient. It was the creator that put the bug there to begin with ,however it was the Droid that made the choice. I don't know if G0T0 could be counted as one ,did he truly break from his programing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Apologies, I meant to use the suffix of "ist", I must have accidentally changed it in my head whilst typing. I'm not sure I understand what you're implying here. Of course being racist refers to being discriminative towards humans, the word "race" relating to humans of different countries. It would make even less sense for racist to pertain to the hatred of animals, as no one has ever referred to an animal (other than a human) as belonging to a race. They are separate species not races, the word race has no precedence nor relevance when speaking of animals. The fact that the human population as a whole has been coined "the human race" as well as human's from different countries being called this, is irrelevent. The term humanist is one that already exists today, and is a term that is not used derogatorily. It does not refer to an alien who dislikes humans, even though that is your "logical" interpretation. Perhaps there is some alien species out there that uses this term, but I find it somewhat unlikely that if there are sentient aliens out there, they would use similar grammer and speech patterns as we do in english. Regarding your other point, I was speaking of R2 imparticular. One example: "Artoo tried unsuccessfully to inform C-3PO of Anakin's involvement in the siege of the Jedi Temple". Anakin was technically R2-D2s master here, and what R2 was doing could have detrimentally affected Anakin as much as it could have helped him. More so, in fact.
  2. That definately seems to be the case. The fact that influence may be gained or lost with the droid is indicative of this. It seems that many droids within the star wars universe are sentients even though they weren't designed to be. R2-D2 is another example of a sentient droid, this is seen in his independent activity relating to the aid of his "friends" (a definate indicator of consciousness), the emotional inflection in many of his "beeps", and C-3P0's discussions with him. Other examples of sentient droids are: C-3P0, Corran horn's "whilster", HK-47 and Q9-X2 (centerpoint station series) I think that protocol/assassin droids may have been designed to have sentient qualities, as these would be a necessary component of their functions. I don't think however, that astromech droids were supposed to have sentient qualities, despite the term of endearment "pilot's best friend". It seems logical that many droids may had "learnt" these qualities as a survival mechanism, portrayed in the way that some droids backed up parts of their memory cores and by personalities before memory wipes. There are many references to the peculiarity of astromech droids displaying human/sentient behaviour throughout the star wars universe. Wow. It shows how bored I am that I decided to rant about this
  3. Indeed. the "ism" suffix is commonly used in words that describe certain prejudices and forms of discrimination. I don't believe however that "humanism" is contextually incolved in this reckoning as it isn't a derogatory term.
  4. T3 has a droid shock arm with unlimited ammunition/power cell. Beat that Go-T0. Plus T3 isn't a tool, Go-T0 is.
  5. I could do something similar if I fiddled with the contrast settings on my tv :D In all honesty though, it's a very notcable inmprovement. Although I wish they hadn't changed so much within the story when they remastered them though. I'd like to get a copy of the pre-remastered movies on DVD, but I don't think they ever did it. I still have the copies on VHS, but they're from like 92 or something so they're rather degraded. (I only taped them)
  6. Trained them all. I figured it was the best way to get the full story/benefit from every character. Plus I wanted to see who could be trained. Like alanschu said, you should really pay more attention to the storyline, the fact that you attract other force sensitives and feed of their connection to the force was actually somewhat integral to the story It's not like they're all that much more useful as jedi anyways, unless you hold out on levelling them up until you train them as such. After I'd gotten all the backstories info, benefits etc I didn't really care what they did. You can finish the game pretty easily without any intervention from the NPC's, so most of the time I didn't even bother levelling them up when they'd been on the ship for too long. Also I didn't really want to bring them up to the level of the exile combat wise, because I figured it'd be pretty illogical continuity wise for "split second" jedi to become as powerful as the pivotal character. Also, Hagatha, your relatively close to training Bao Dur as a jedi when he says that he feels different, only a matter of one or 2 more influence gains. Mira you can pretty much train her just by gaining influence from talking to her, If I remember correctly, one external influence gain should probably be enough (maybe two). You also have to take her to Nar Shadaa where Kreia shows you the concentrated force resevoir.
  7. Of course the sith were a species! What aggravates ME is when people who don't know what they're talking about, and can't distinguish between the sith as an ideal, and the sith as a species, accuse other people of ignorance. Have you ever thought that the reason dark jedi started taking titles like "dark lord of the SITH", or "SITH lord" is because these names originate from the time when dark jedi conquered the sith empire, and were in fact literally "Dark lords of the sith"? A race of organisms of similar physiology who can interbreed. Sounds like a species to me.
  8. Hmm. I could swear I got both of those dialogue options when I've played through kotor 2. Funny thing is, I've only ever played the game as male. Maybe it was a glitch or something, I've played through like 20 times, but I still remember it. I think I chalked it down to some sort of inferiority complex he had against the exile, you know, like a sort of niggling voice saying the exile's stronger than him or some such. This whole love/hate scenario's interesting.... disturbing but interesting..... unimaginably gross but interesting.. yes, I think I must ponder this some more.
  9. Thanks alot Musopticon?, Good to know that I haven't lost all my eloquence :D But then again, a great man once said: the most powerful, convincing and thought provoking arguments are always put forth in the form of...... Smilies :D :D :D :D Subtle, eh?
  10. I've tried basically every trick known to man when it comes to kotor/2 swoop racing. Word to the wise, NOTHING WORKS. Turning the sound off so that I could concentrate more didn't work, sitting closer to the screen didn't work, neither did pausing intermittently. That said, you race for long enough, and your bound to gain some aptitude at it. I reloaded the first couple of times I raced in K2, even though I won those times, just so I could get a feel for the new parameters. A couple of things did help, they weren't really tricks or anything like that though. First, try to look as far ahead of you whilst on the track, the greater the distance without sacrificing immediate focus the better. Think of driving a car. That way you can anticipate most non moving obstacles with relative ease (moving objects you remember after they crash into you ) Secondly, don't try to pass over every acceleration vent throughout the track, once you reach what you believe to be your maximum controllable speed you'll usually be able to win without the need of further acceleration. (for me that's usually what I call third stage blur) Finally, not really sure if this is one that really works or if it's just some crazy placebo affect my brain's tries to pull on me to psyche me out. Whilst racing, I tend to tap the gear change button (A) repeatedly at like quater second intervals, so that the change in speed is immediate when I pass over an acceleration pad. even if it does work it's probably only like an eigth of a second per change. Anyways, those are the things that worked for me. In K2 I only averaged about 4-5 turns per planet, as I could generally accomplish the first two tiers immediately but it took a few for the final round. K1 was a completely different story, although I used the same tactics. I would have had a similar average, but like the third time I played through it took me 7 turns to beat the final tier on Manaan!! Overall I found K2 to be much easier than K1... don't ask me why. No idea. Also, has anyone ever noticed the most frustrating fact about swoop racing. You always get the most kick ass score in the first race, and then it takes another 3 turns to duplicate it (like just about every time I outsripped the final tier time in the first race, but then couldn't duplicate when it came to that tier)
  11. *Warning unhealthy levels of sacrasm to follow* As far as the Dev's taking on board the ideas of this thread, I was under the impression that the reason it was called "ideas and suggestions" was that all the possible Dev's would read through the 20 pages of this thread (something I didn't even do) as well as the 20 or so pages on every other KOTOR 3 speculation thread throughout this forum, and take every idea, including those about wielding octuple lightsabers with glowing pink adjustable blades against 100 or so of your own party members, and implement them immediately into the KOTOR 3 game that they don't even know they'll be the developer for yet. I also think that ideas like making the entire KOTOR series like tenchu are great, I mean it's completely feasible to turn an RPG with a turned based combat system into a first person "slicer" without inherently ruining an incredible series. Ok... Now that that's over. Of course I have no delsuions regarding the implementation of any ideas I've stated throughout this thread inparticular, and I definately don't believe that any developer worth his crystal game pad would waste time reading through all the useless and redundant material on this thread for that iota of information that 1. He/She didn't find completely idiotic 2. Found to be implementable in any practical manner 3. Even liked as an idea 4. Was continuous with all the other development they've already completed, provided they weren't still in the preliminary stage of development when they came here for "insight" 5. Found to be worth the time and stuffing around just to please popular opinion. Unfortunately, I doubt that KOTOR 3 will even be out within the next couple of years, providing it comes out at all. That's why speculating on this thread is so fun, it allows you to present what you think would be a good kotor 3 without any flaming ramifications from everyone, because everything concerning the game is completely up in the air. About 90% of what I say in any thread is completely in jest, or at least without any hopes for the future. I thought my idea was something that'd be pretty cool, and I didn't like some of the ideas already presented (no offense to anyone inparticular, some ideas were great) so I thought I'd offer a "fresh" viewpoint and see if anyone else had similar ideas. To be honest, I'd say alot of my ideas, especially storywise, would be amongst the most unlikely to be seen in the new K3, just too much time needed to implement them. Other "problems", I'm sure the Dev's already know about... things like updating the saber forms system were probably already on Obsidian's mind when they ran out of time. Don't forget, many Dev's are gamers too.
  12. You'd be surprised what he could do with a plate of mynock and a mug of graff.
  13. My Revan was a Lightsider all the way, I'm talking glowing blue aura kind of stuff here people. He was a scoundrel to begin with, (well you know what I mean) but became a consular when he discovered his true destiny within the force. He had long brown hair, and a slightly confused sort of expression alot of the time. He was a single hilter, but he carried two lightsabers at all times except when fighting incredibly weak enemies, which was about 90% of the time. For the first half of his campaign, the colours of his lightsabers were green and blue repectively, and he would carry them simultaneously so as to demonstrate to his enemies his incredible skill in both saber dueling and force manipulation. Later in the game, although his skill with a lightsaber was as great as his force ability, he switched to two green sabers to portray his complete devotion to consularship, and his unparalleled mastery of the force. He was the epitomy of altruism whenever he found a citizen in need and would do whatever he could to help them. He did his best to deal with his enemies and possible enemies in a non violent manner, although a great deal of the time he managed to gain benefit from a situation when for some reason others attacked him after he had already spoken with them and moved closer to the light side of the force (say for instance taking their possessions, and thereby "accidentally" invoking their anger - sandpeople). Although he was always quick to help, he also knew how to gain the most from a situation and frequently found himself 'inadvertantly' gaining multiple benefits from those he spoke with. When he met Bastilla at the beginning of his campaign he fell instantly in love with her, and although he found her annoying, self righteous and egotistic, he still courted her, and with his CONSTANT charismatic banter and suggestive speech, he quickly won her favor (he also loved embarrasing her). Jolee became his adopted mentor, and although the old man annoyed him to no end, and was also incredibly weak comparatively, Revan liked much of the old mans philosphy. Like Jolee, my Revan had little time for many in the jedi counsel (Vrook inparticular), and although he rarely listened to them regarding the decisions he should make... and never obeyed them when their orders conflicted with him saving or bettering the lives of everyone around him, he did his best to humour them and their outdated ideas. My Revan never believed nor cared about the whole "no love, no attachment", crap and did his best to discredit it at every opportunity. He gathered an immense array of weapons and enhancement devices (not caring about all the materialism crap the jedi preached either), and although he had little skill in most technical areas (except repair, computer and security) (unlike the exile who had craploads of skills) he was all but unstoppable in combat. His favourite crystals were sigil and opilla and he praised these above all else except for his star forge and Qel-Droma robes. Although he saved Juhani on Dantooine, he found her clingy and overly dramatic, so he tended to avoid her once he'd got all the information he wanted from and about her. Zaalbar was another unlooked for addition to Revan's team, and though he respected him and appreciated his alliegence, he found him rather flat in personality and tended to leave him be. T3 was great, a pilot and consulars best friend, he spoke little, but was useful and had moxy, more than could be said for many others. Mission was a brat, pure and simple, annoying yet... somehow alluring and interesting in nature, overall Revan found her reasonable company. HK-47, little to say here, for some reason Revan liked him a great deal.. he was always ready for a fight, and although Revan found a few of his statements somewhat distateful, and he could really piss Revan off on occasion, he was brave and good humoured, overall a good companion. Canderous was much the same, Revan respected him and what he had done, and although he thought his sense of honour was idiotic, he found the mandalorians ego to be humourous. Finally there was Carth: whiny, self pitying Carth. Although Revan found him to be a real little bitch at times... well let's face it most of the time, he still found him humorous and for some reason overall enjoyable company. Revan still believes Carth to be a little boy reincarnated in an adult's body, and feels he suffers from serious abandonment and inferiority issues. Despite this, he believes that Carth has reason to be such a manipulative untrusting wuss, and besides, he's not bad with a blaster and helps when Revan needs to annoy Bastilla, so Revan liked him well enough. Oh yeah, and Revan never had any qualms about using a couple of DS powers against his enemies once he had no choice but to fight them, if he was forced to fight an enemy, there was about a 100% chance that Revan would lightening their asses. Overall, my Revan was the jedi and jedi code incarnate, except for the whole passion part, he showed Bastilla he had a lot of that the night after the starforge's destruction celebration.
  14. Yeah, that's right, resistance would probably become the base power. And I double checked it was a universal power.
  15. Yeah that'd be good. It's be feasible as a LS/DS power, even though I think force immunty was a LS power in K2. They'd probably scrap that power or make it the first step instead of the second as absorb would logically be an extension of that power. E.G. Force immunity (less force damage) --> Force absorb (some damage is turned into Force points) --> Force reflect (damage is immediately reflected in the form of a combat power).
  16. And Revan1127, it's definately a lot of work for the Dev's storywise, but I think a lot of the gameplay flaws could be resolved with just a little bit of extra time. Many don't seem to be inherently difficult to iron out (the attribites relating to item equipping for instance) just time consuming. I guess that's what it always come down to isn't it? Time and money.
  17. Sorry, I only just read the end of that post. I think that'd be a great idea, beginning at galactic center and working your way to the outer rim. That way, you'd be able to work your way outwards as you save the republic, to when you come across the real threat. Although there'd probably have to be a more sinsister approach to saving the republic, so that you'd please all the DSers out there. In any case, it seems that just for the sake of continuity the republic would have to be saved for the quest to continue. Also with all the different scenarios involved in having the PC change, different personalities could be worked into the game for each new PC, which would add greater depth and realism to the game. Revan's dialogue options would probably tend to sound more dramatic and heroic (LS) than the others as he has been exposed to that sort of 'epic' war torn battle for good and evil longer, and on an even greater scale to the exile. The exile's dialogue options could be more brooding, although he would have to be equally as charismatic as Revan, he could have a more humbling confidence sort of feel about him. The newest PC could be whatever the Dev's want, but curiosity would probably have to be one of his personality traits . The overall personalities could be better distinguished with 3 PC's having a complete background and different "in use" dialogue styles and options, and the whole DS lure thing could be demonstrated really well, with certain PC's being shown as more vulnerable to the lure of the dark side than others.
  18. Thanks James! That'd definately be my ideal KOTOR 3. It's great that someone else feels the same way about it's implementation.. You know, great minds and all that
  19. Hey guys, first post. I only read the first 10 or so pages so forgive me if I repeat anything. What I'd like to see in Kotor 3.. Storywise: Unlike most people I'd probably be more inclined to have Revan back as my PC than a new character, given the choice. Ideally, I'd like to play as a new character fighting against the sith/jedi (personal campaign, or as a soldier I don't really care) who meets up with the exile "coincidentally", and makes a decision to join in his quest (find revan/ destroy all jedi). What'd be great then, is if your original character gets integrated into the exiles party and you continue the quest as the exile. You could select the features, class etc of the exile at the start of the game the same way as you would your normal PC. Then playing as the exile you complete your quest of finding Revan, and after speaking with him decide either to join his campaign (LS) or kill him (DS). If you choose to play as Revan, both the exile and your original PC become integrated as party members. This way the three pivotal KOTOR characters would all be involved in the final battle and I think it could give the 'final' game a real epic feel to it. The exile and revan would start at high levels with a player chosen skill-set, but the enemies would be significantly stronger so that your previous PC doesn't overshadow the leader. Continuity wise, the sex and features of revan and the exile have been determined at the beginning of the game, and, as the original PC is not from the beginning trying to track down Revan or the exile, DS or LS quests and character histories can be determined by the way the gamer plays the game up until the introduction of the exile. Theoretically this means that you could play in 2 or 3 completely different 'sub' games without sacrificing continuity, and possibly even play 2 or 3 different LS/DS configurations throughout the game. Wishful thinking definately, also a LOT of work for developers. That's just my ideal storyline. Also a scenario that provides definite closure IMHO;) I also think the Hawk's idea would great as a means of tying up any continuity problems, no matter what the dev's decide to do storywise. Gameplay stuff: Lightsaber forms: Great concept, but pretty poor execution. I'd love for there to be obvious visual distinctions between styles when they're enacted, not just a difference in the rolls, saves etc. In K2 I sometimes wasn't even sure I'd activated them;). Influence: Also an excellent idea, I think it could use further developing though. More opportunities to gain or lose influence would be welcome as it can become very difficult to get the full benefit from every character otherwise (no trouble getting anything from anyone but HK in K2, could'nt bring myself to do that extra bit of evil:)). Like others have said, a more profound impact from the loss or gain of influence, and an overall more realistic approach to the incfluence concept socially speaking. I'd love to screw with people's heads (hey Visas Kreia's been watchin you awfully closely lately don't you think?) or (hey Atton, anyone ever told you you walk kinda funny?). How great would it be if his movement style changed after that? Attributes: This really started to p*ss me off at times. When an item is equipped that increases one's attributes, it should allow another item to be equipped that is dependent on the attribite increased by the former. I.E. If I need so much constitution or whatever to wear a skills package and I have so and so item which increases my constitution, then logically, I should damn well be able to equip it. It's not difficult, just have the game unequip both items if you uneqiuip the independent. Powers: I'd definately like to see more powers, but there's only so far one can go without making it all seem kind of ridiculous. Also, though I disagree that LS jedi shouldn't be allowed to wield DS powers (after all its a morality thing not ability related), but maybe something like a 0.1% increase in DS points everytime an inherently DS power is used (ie. force push wouldn't be inherently evil, but force kill which is basically be an extension of the basic ability should have a morally detrimental effect on the player). Planets: I'd love to see Bakura, don't know what would be there but it's far out from galactic center so its a possibility. Centerpoint station, not a planet but I'm pretty sure that they made mention of the fact that it may even have preceeded the advent of the old republic. There was a planet in one of the Zahn books I think, can't really remember that I think would really be a great addition visually speaking, (something about the buildings of the city being made completely of crystal) but I think it would probably just have to be a trading stop or something as I don't recall that much that was useful there:). Alderaan. Who cares why, just do it. Coruscant: "The entire planet is one big city". Sounds good enough to be added to me. Don't know what was there 4000 years before the Empire though. Correlia would be a nice addition, in fact, and of the planets in that area would be relevant editions (Talus, Tralus, Drall, Selonia), as I think they're almost in the unkown regions, and it'd be cool to link them back to the Rakata from KOTOR1. Other than that, new world's, and heaps of them. Bad Guys: Evil, unuterrably inherently evil and not easy as to beat after all the hype (Nihilus, Sion, Kreia I'm looking at you guys). Better AI, bad guys that really want to keep on breathing, have them run away, hide, all that stuff, cling onto stuff, all that jazz.(I read somewhere they're already pretty far along with this sort of stuff). Realistic battle damage: diminshing ability to fight after multiple wounds etc. Not much ask huh guys?? Anyway, just my wish list at the moment. (and that's just the beginning).
