Never claimed all fantasy characters were warriors or must have dumb looking mugs(I don't expect a wizard or bard to look like an mma fighter), it was just a little jab at all the Drizzt Do'Urden and Sephiroth warrior type of characters who seem to be so popular in fantasy

Have you checked out Jason's work: http://www.jasonseow.com/#/poeportraits/ and these offical poe portraits(also by Jason): With that said, Ron Perlman and Danny Trejo would make awesome concept for portraits, same would Rory McCann(best known for playing Sandor Clegane/The Hound in GoT) ...and yeah real warriors are/were rarely model types google "knight/warrior historical face reconstrutions" and you'll find plenty of brutal and hard looking faces.

Replaying Morrowind. Joined the fighters guild in Balmora, got my first mission to clear out a rat infestation, did the deed and returned to the guild master and reported on my success, after having played more recent Beth games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 I expected to be promoted to guild master right then and there, but to my surprise it did not happen neither did I advance in rank, I just got another assignment.

A lot of the PoE armor look realistic and functional, which is what I prefer. Those are nice, not badass, those are what I would think the basic norm, not the best of the best. I am talking about models here, not about textures. Those are the armor I would like to see on your run of the mill foot soldiers wear, that is like the armor Stromtroopers wear. Once again, the 3D model. That is why it would be nice to get something more special looking. NO, not animu armor, not oversized pauldrons, not 10000000000 moving parts, just something more than that, which are nice. Just lacking Run to the mill foot soldiers? You'd have to be a king to afford wearing such armor in real life, also it looks quite ceremonial.
