  1. Hey guys,

So... I've been discussing builds a lot on these here forums, as you know. And some of the feedback I've gotten from people has more or less amounted to "Oh, it doesn't really matter what you play in a party, even on PotD. Anything works, the game's super easy." So I'm starting to wonder if I'd get a more rewarding experience playing solo, or if there are ways to make the game more challenging even with a party (Mods or something?). Some things to note...

I haven't played the DLC yet. There's apparently a bunch of new content for Rekke and Ydwin in there, though I'm not sure if it's enough to make them qualify as full "companions." Still, I'd like to at least see it. That said, I am getting a little sick of most of the full companions, and feel like the Sidekicks all make for much more interesting characters, except for maybe Maia and Eder in the sense that he's your buddy from the first game. I also haven't seen most of the companion quests to completion (Pallegina's, Maia's, and Aloth's)

Some of the perks of playing solo:

    - Not having to rate your decisions based on what will or won't annoy your companions.

    - Enjoyment of the sheer challenge of it.

    - Getting to use unorthodox builds, like builds that actually pump Resolve for some extra Deflection

    - More limited in terms of class selection and weapon/gear use (Can't exactly be a heavy hitting, thin armored Marauder)

    - No companion quests.

    - Kind of quiet, with there not being any party members bantering. Though if you're getting sick of particular ones - like Xoti pining after Eder and/or wanting Pallegina to BURN AT THE STAKE, YOU FEATHERY HEATHEN, that might be a plus.

Meanwhile, in a party, you're allowed more flexibility with what you might want to play, but I worry that the fact that you've got four other warm bodies to soak damage for you, heal you, help buff you, etc. takes the challenge out of it. Or at least, that's the impression I've been getting.

Depends on what you enjoy. If you care more for the combat and challenge then this is certainly true. I kinda like seeing how companions react to the way I roleplay a particular character.

  2. Damn it Cyrus I thought we decided on a Brute!!!!

Ok so anywho I think Swashbuckler is amazing. Unbroken/Trickster has very high defenses and very respectable dps output. Don't forget about the synergy here with high defenses + riposte, and things like persistent distraction + deathblows. Also works amazingly well imo with items that increase engagement like Kapana Taga and Reckless Brigandine. Lots of bonuses from having tons of enemies engaged, and Armored Grace + Abraham pet will nearly eliminate armor recovery penalty from using heavy armor. You can go with a retaliation shield or just dual wield if you prefer the flavor or higher dps. You sacrifice deflection, but that won't hinder you too badly imo. Boeroer also had an amazing idea about Wohai Poraga + Toxic Strike to apply a big ole dot to a whole group of enemies to start a fight. Make sure you max intel and might with this build. So many buffs will have their duration extended with the intel, especially Unbending to make you nearly unkillable.

You gotta decide if you want higher dps or higher defenses. I like swashbuckler because to me a Berserker/Street Fighter is way too much of a glass cannon for a melee char on potd. I don't mind glass cannon approaches for ranged/casters, but for a melee guy I want to be able to survive without absurd amounts of micro-management.

  3. Hey guys, anyone given this combo a try? Seems like Helwalker would lend massive might and intel bonuses. Enduring Dance would grant wounds quickly on a ranged character with careful positioning, and I assume the accuracy bonus would apply to Cipher powers? Cipher seems to have some decently cool pl 8 & 9 abilities, but nothing I'd miss overly much.

    Anyone given this a try?

Also, recommended weapon setups for a ranged cipher? I like the idea of Red hand simply cause I love the weapon, and the long range may be handy, but I believe anything that hits in an aoe is recommended right?

  4. Hey all. Of course this question is extremely subjective, but I'm hoping for some general advice that may help me make up my mind. I want to take either a priest or wizard through all of POE1 & 2. Priest would be a caster built around huge aoe fire dmg and buffs, wizard would mostly be a classic CC / debuff / nuke wizard.

I'm more familiar with wizards in general, and it seems like they start a lot faster?

Priest I've never done anything except buff and heal bot, but their high level damage spells look beastly. Not too sure in POE2 if they still have massive dmg.

I'd prefer whichever character is going to feel like they just nuclear bomb everything at high levels, but I'm concerned priest won't start to feel fun until 11-13?

Anyways, thanks for any discussion that may help set my mind at ease here.

  5. As you have made up your mind on Darryn's I think devoted would be a great choice. You named a bunch of the best reasons, but some other food for thought here. Having two sources of bonus penetration will help guarantee those big hits your looking for. Between fighter and berserker skills your hit to crit is huge and you have great bonus to crit damage. Also, I remember you wanted to be tanky. Unbending will bring a lot to this. Keep your might and intel very high and it will make you nearly unkillable, not to mention some of the other great fighter benefits for survivability. Brute's skill sets just feed off of each other SO good.

I'd also maybe recommend fairly low dex. You want to crit a lot so don't let your per slack too much. Barb offers tons of speed boosts, Armroed Grace will take DoC BP to zero recovery, and you can throw in the Falcon helm if you want since your going 2her.

Seriously bro I've seen all your posts lately, and I'm BEGGING YOU to make a Brute and stick with it.

  6. If a tank is already tanky enough the thing to focus on is dps not more tankyness, more tankyness then unkillable doesnt make u more unkillable, same thing ive been trying to tell tank players in everquest 2 for a decade. More dps means shorter fights wich means that buffs such as unbending lasts for the whole fight and that enemies will have less time to use their tricks on u. 10% chance to recover resources on recieving crit is a very low chance, dunno if it used to be more when this build was originally made?

Precisely. Why make the nigh-unkillable tank more tanky.

  7. Verde, the low deflection is necessary for use with Toughened Fury at higher levels. Similar builds existed in POE1 as well, that basically had no Deflection but so much healing as to be nigh unkillable. By maxing might and intel Unbending will heal a TON and last much longer than 30 seconds. It can also be refreshed when needed due to the Discipline regen or just careful resource management. Also, the high might and dex coupled with a weapon that suits this build means the dps will be very respectable for such a sturdy tank.

Looks like a really fun build for me. Reminds me of the Lady of Pain variant I played a lot in POE1 that focused on maximizing healing.

What I'm wondering is can you stack the Affliction Resistance talents with resistance affliction gear, and is it even necessary/worth it?

Also curious if anyone can recommend a good updated gear list for POE2. The wiki is not very useful right now.

  9. Vouge is certainly synergizes well with almost any barbarian build imo. The battleaxe is going to come quite late so consider if your willing to wait that long. If you are willing to consider Estocs then there are a couple very good options that are not very difficult to obtain. I have not tried it personally but I always thought Eager Blade would be very good on a Brute build. You can pump hit to crit very high to help proc the sword's abilities, and combining Devoted and Berserker will give you absurdly high penetration to make sure your hits really count. You could also use Reckless Brigadine to increase action speed even more, or DoC BP to prevent Berserker penalty and give a very nice +2 resources. Armored Grace, combined with barbarian skills and the speed enhancments from the armor and eager blade will make you very fast. Major healing from Fighter abilities and Savage Defiance. It looks really strong on paper at least, but as I said I haven't taken a build such as this very high. I'd just make sure you have a companion that can contribute healing if you want to face tank with this guy.

  10. I've been working on a Unbroken/Trickster focused on Riposte and disengagement attacks. Theres been a lot said on the forums recently so I won't go into to much detail.

One idea that I'm aiming for is a lot of raw dmg bleeds. I figure this char will have poor single target dps, and Depp Wounds, Gouging Strike, and Ring the bell, will result in a lot of raw dmg over time, with relatively low resource cost. Could someone confirm that all 3 would stack?
