  1. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/4993994.stm "I would have liked to have taken a few more seconds before I made a decision," Hauge told a Norwegian newspaper. "If I'd done that, I could have given a goal and given a yellow card as well." Case in point. That's what usually happens. If you watched the replays, Lehmann barely clips Eto'o's foot. In an amateur game, the striker would just keep running. In a professional game, you fall. It's common sense now, and there is no blame / bad sportsmanship at all in Eto'o; equally, Lehmann did the best he could in a bad situation. The ref simply blew too early, and he didn't have the benefit of video replays.
  2. meta's going to go into depression now. we're getting a goth DM.
  3. We weren't robbed of the title, no. Eboue did dive for the Free kick, and we might have lost with 11 men on the field anyway. Arsenal fans (and me) aren't really angry about losing, or feeling any injustice on that front. It's the ref that we don't like, not because he 'cost us the game' or anything, but just because 1/ he was crap and 2/ he made the game that much less entertaining. On the red card: You can't have the card AND the goal. Why? Lehmann got a red card for a foul when he was the last man. This only applies when his foul stops the other team scoring, when without the foul they would have scored. Since they scored anyway, the ref should have played advantage, given the goal to Barca. And as with all advantage rules, Lehmann would not have been penalised, certainly not a red. And quite independent of the red card incident, he was just a horrible ref. Yes, sometimes to us as well. You might say "well it's okay then", but it makes the game much more cagey and much less open, flowing, entertaining. Henry got a yellow card for a tackle where he actually didn't even touch the other player, for example. I don't see how that is even possible. Pretty much, Arsenal and its fans aren't "making a case", or saying we deserved to win but didn't. (I guess Wenger says that, but it's like the manager's job to say that every time any team loses now. ) At least, I don't think that. I just find it a pity that the refs many bad decisions made the game less entertaining for everybody, no matter which team they supported / played for.
  4. Bleurgh. It was painful watching that game. Of course, without Lehmann send off it would have been a Barca goal, and we might not have won anyway: Barca were a quality side and they did play well. What I'm really disappointed about is that up to that point both teams were playing very entertaining, attacking football, after that Barca just kept walking around the field making square passes, while Arsenal sat there and defended. The ref robbed us of a very classic final. That, and Lehmann and Pires (who had to go off to let the 2nd keeper come on). Lehmann has been a legend for our CL run and Pires has been a dedicated player in what may be his last appearance... it's really a shame they couldn't be allowed to play it out.
  5. You can't, Bethesda cut hot chicks for realism.
  6. The paragraph is from Iliad I think. It's where they leave Lemnos and take this guy called Philoktetes nobody likes, cause he has Heracles' bow: then they leave him to rot for a while. Eldar: that was my spelling mistakes, tines not tioes and aiskros not aiskpos. Nevertheless, double-checking with that I seem to have got it now: (For) the generals threw him out shamefully and devastated him thus, and he is wasting away with a fierce disease. Still, he has the bow we need
  7. Hoi Polloi, that's a bucketload. I think the general consensus was that if and when you want to join us, you are free to do so with no feelings any less than amiable. Still hope you can at some point down the road (and that we survive that long, too. ) And that ends my sappy post of the decade. Savour it.
  8. It's pretty cool, I'd say it was harder to learn than French, though, thanks to all the verbs conjugating like nouns and all.
  9. Well my own efforts have so far yielded: "For the generals cast him out shamefully and devastated him thus.... (blank)" and ""Nevertheless, the bow is needed - the bow of Heracles - and..." but I"m not too sure.
  10. You have less than me.
  11. But with angelic white feet.
  12. No? Because I'm polluting .. uh... the ever-so-clean WoT with this self-benefitial thread. Yep. that's right. Help me so it goes away. (or if a mod is awake. egads.) If anybody knows ancient greek and can tell me what these passages mean: στρατηγοι γαρ τιωες αυτον ερριψαν αισχρως ουτω ερημον, αγρια νοσω καταφθινοντα. ομως τα χρεια τοξα
  13. You ain't the boss of me, McGovnr.
  14. Who was talking about Dhothlar?
  15. Oh, I think it could. After all, those of the meatshield profession aren't exactly known for faculties of memory that span past the next bend on the road to the inn.
  16. We like to be cla-e-ssi.
  17. And that he'd take the stupid fighter down with him to the boiling water.
  18. Bleurgh, that means NWN2 is pretty much Oblivion in terms of resource requirements. Ugly/Fast is the timeless solution. Although, the 100% dynamic lighting make it a bit harder to tone things down like that.
  19. And our meatshield. But I digress.
  20. Zombees hab hair?
  21. His expression at the start is awesome.
  22. Reyes is more comfortable in a forward position, I rather suspect that he's the 4th forward.
  23. In the mid/late 20s if you only count people that actually post more than once a month.
  24. i think making a territory-based statistic from over 50 years is really, really stupid... Like saying, I don't know, Holland have always performed well in Germany then you cite 1974 and whenever as an example. While location does matter, it does not matter so much that you can create patterns and trends over a few decades, meaning hundreds of different players and staffs. Group C looks pretty tough, Netherlands and Argentina are pretty even, Ivory Coast did well in the African Nations Cup and I have no idea about SCG. At least one of Neth and Arg will go through, I'm sure. Group E will probably see Italy get through, then US and Czechs duke it out. How have the US been since 2002?
  25. Yeah, cause this poll was conducted in America..
