Pull of Eora textures not loading
Ichthyic replied to Ichthyic's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
FIXED: if you are using the Gog version of the game, you MUST download and install the latest patch for ALL 3 PARTS of this game. to be explicit, you must: -download and install the patch for the base game -download and install the patch for WM 1 -download and install the patch for WM 2 I don't think you need to reinstall from scratch, although that is what I did and that worked as well. -
After banging my head on the wall trying to figure out why textures were missing in my game after I updated to 3.01, I finally figured out that Gog released the 3.01 patch... IN THREE PARTS. yes, that's right, it isn't enough to update White March 2, you have to download the latest patch for: the base game, and install that then the WM 1 addon, and install that THEN install the patch for WM 2 egads gog. so, to sum up: you really do have to go and hunt down the latest patch on gog for EACH PART of your game, or it will be broken. also works: install base game latest, install patch latest install wm 1 latest, install wm 1 patch latest install wm 2 latest, install wm 2 patch latest I hope this helps a few of the people that have missing textures. likely this is also an issue for any version not using Steam.

[3.01] Speed of Whisper of Treason
Ichthyic replied to theBalthazar's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
that explains a lot. -
OK, what I'm going to try: -install pillars base latest -install patch base latest -install white march 1 latest -install white march 1 patch latest -install white march 2 latest -install white march 2 patch latest wish me luck. Edit: ah, I think I see what's going on. I think I need to install the latest patches for EACH part AFTER I finish a full install of all 3 parts. it's just that you expect one patch to update all of the game, not just the latest bit. man, what a hassle. thanks Gog. woo*fukin*HOO it finally works.
-
hmm. maybe if I reinstall the original white march 2 on TOP of the patch? ... well, at least it allows that, so I didn't have to reinstall to get back to the original version. hmm. I wonder if reinstalling wm part 1, installing the patch for THAT, then installing part 2 and installing the patch for that will work?
-
confirmed. I bought the full version of the game when it was white march 1 with its latest patch, then got white march 2. then I installed the update for white march 2. ...and got missing textures for a lot of things. so how do I go about fixing that? If i leave it at the 3.0 version, none of the textures are missing, but then you have the other bugs that the 3.01 patch fixed.

Pull of Eora textures not loading
Ichthyic replied to Ichthyic's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I reinstalled, and have discovered that it is the 3.01 patch from GoG that is doing this. If I leave the install at 3.0, everything works fine. then I install the patch, and those textures break again. *sigh* -
Bog Batling Pet missing textures
Ichthyic replied to Ichthyic's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Gog. will try a reinstall then. I seem to be missing some textures on a few spells as well. odd that it is so random. -

Pull of Eora textures not loading
Ichthyic replied to Ichthyic's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
still could use some advice on this... I really like this spell, but it is basically unusable as it is since I can't see anything on the screen after I cast it -
The first time I cast the spell, Pull of Eora, it looked fine... saw the thing that looked like a vortex appear on the map... enemies pulled into it... all good. the SECOND time I cast it... on the same map, but in a different combat... the textures for the vortex did not load properly, and there were purple spikes instead (models with no textures), and the physics went wonky - the spell randomly tossed enemies away as well as drawing them in. one of the enemies ended up 10 m BEHIND me! so.. yeah, there's that. will keep trying it to see if I get any consistency. edit: yes, it continues. every map I use this spell on, it is missing the proper textures, and just shows up as a spiky pink/purple blob. any suggestions?

Aloth is easily the best DPS among pre-TWM companions; plus he now has access to all those ridiculously overpowered talents that were handed out to Wizards because of all the whining. Pallegina is a decent tank, and no matter what people say, tanks are still useful. You just can't stack all mobs on one tank anymore, so you need two primary tanks + one emergency off-tank to keep your backline relatively safe. Works like a charm. 1. The "harm" is that it's time and money wasted to develop something. Time and money that could be put to better use. 2. IMO, Pallegina is entire functional as is. As I said in a previous post, I have no problem with the idea that perhaps the devs should re-examine the Companions' stats in light of the "Perception now affects Accuracy" change, back in patch 2.0 (IIRC). Some of the Companions are lacking in that area. But overall, I think that people make much too big a deal about this. Equipment and talents/abilities matter a lot more than less than perfectly optimized attributes in PoE. I really don't buy this argument at all. one, the files are merely compressed xml for the datasheet references. it would hardly be difficult to make a utility to edit them. hell, many people already have independently. two, who are you to judge which is and is not the best way to spend dev time? you know nothing, Jon Snow.

Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Ichthyic replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Brimsurfer... I really can't see why anyone even bothers trying to address your nonsense. I guess people get really bored? -
See, this whole "create your own custom adventurers to replace original companions if you don't like them" is exactly the option for all you guys who want to have characters with stats that you desire. Creating a tool that will specifically alter the stats of original companions is in my opinion unnecessary. Yeah, I would totally skip that part if it was ever implemented (just as Big Head Mode), but I guess more ideas would emerge? Soon there might be requests like "I want Thaos avatar to be replaced into a xaurip" or something like that. "If you don't want Thaos to be a xaurip for RP reasons then that's great, don't do it in your game. The choice is completely open to you." Okay, now I'm just teasin' with ya mate NO. the difference is that the companions all have storylines to go with them... created characters from an Inn do not, obviously. seriously, the OP is right on. WHY does it bother some people SO much to even have the option? what is it with you people that make you feel you need to control everyone else's view of how the game should be played? why? it's literally no skin off your nose. smh. that said... there is a person on Nexus Mods who is making custom companion builds for people. you can just download the ones you like and use those for your game. they also take requests. here's the link: http://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity/mods/107/? Alternatively, you can do what I did and use the "freerecipestoggle" console command, then enchant armor to make up for whatever stats you deem are too low. It's not perfect, but it's easy and you can quickly change stats a few points as you see fit at any time (you can stack as many different buffs as you like... the toggle removes the enchant cap as well).

I just started playing again after a year to try out the new expansion packs. ...and I just noticed you can make custom formations. Is that new, or did I just never notice that before? so useful.

PoE 3.0 Hiravias shapeshift bug
Ichthyic replied to DAOMEN's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
just adding my voice. this bug still exists in 3.01. -
Every time the warding seal effect goes off when my character is wielding this shield, the visuals for my character turn into something resembling translucent swirling black smoke. the effect stays until I save and reload; resting does not make it go away. I suppose if you like your character to look like a wisp of smoke with a helmet and shield... this is a "good" bug. otherwise, and for me, not so good. EDIT: turns out it's the Cape of the Master Mystic doing this, and that has the bug where the visual effect does not wear off. so... uh, since I can't edit the title of the thread, maybe merge this with any other threads that report the bug with the Cape? thx

People are totally ignoring amplified thrust. why? I think people miss that this actually *generates* focus. yes, that's right, the damage from the amplified thrust generates the same kind of focus you would expect from any other damage attack. in total, it generates whatever focus you would get from doing around 50-60 damage, minus the 20 you used to cast it. but, you say, that's worse than a blunderbus? sure it is, but the difference is it's a FAST cast! name another weapon you can use at level 3 that has a fast attack that generates around 20 focus per use, AND causes 50-60 damage. it's basically extremely useful as a primary attack, ASIDE from the fact that it knocks enemies off of squishy casters and whatnot. try it. the only problem with it that I can see, is that it is entirely useless if you are playing solo.
