Portraits V
Isaea replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hey guys, got this male portrait i really like for MC - i tried to make watercolor portrait for it using GIMP guide on the forums but so far failed miserably. Any kind soul able to help me out here? I'm providing both portraits i used in PoE 1. -
You are probably right when it comes to priest and Arquebus. It's a good weapon if you want to fire it ocassionally now and then, but it will most likely fall off later on in the game due to fact how priest class work plus lack of talents that synergize with it. I guess i'll give Berathan priest a go. I think i'll enjoy the playstyle and kinda different approach to priest class. I like his dispositions too. This cipher you mentioned also looks promising. i'll have to think about it. Anyway thank you very much for all the ideas you've shared with me, it helped a lot!
-
Thank you Boeroer for the answers you provided! I know you are pretty well oriented in builds and overall game mechanics i'm sure answers will prove useful. So best retaliation tank used to be cipher but not anymore. it's either Barbarian or Monk. Monk isn't really my style. I wanted a simple sturdy tank that uses heavy armor, one handed weapon and shield. I think i might give barbarian a go. I'm really glad that ciphers are viable with 2 handed weapons. Builds i've found so far are either builds for guns or 2 x one handed weapon. Guns I really like but it becomes kinda retarded later on in the game. Having only "pierce" damage type hurts a lot a frustrates me on PoTD. Priests.. I don't know what to think about them - i like cleric-type of a priest with heavy armor aka "Paladin wannabe" more than caster with stick and a robe. So it's a relief that priests in melee or heavy armor are viable. So you've tested out that Berathan Priest works really well with 2 handed weapon. What about Magran Priest? Does it work with Arquebus + Steadfast/Shield eventually Abydon Hammer or nah? I like the idea of being flexible. Have range weapon, melee weapon, different types of damage. Synergizing well with fire dmg etc. The thing is - i'm not sure if it's not "good" on paper only and will be ****ty when it comes to actual gameplay. I'm afraid that it will require a lot of investing in talents to be viable. Talents like faster reloading, +ACC talents, +DMG. And still i won't be sure that damage with Arquebus will be any meaningful, that reload won't take years along with casting spells. On top of that i'll go into melee and get one shotted :D Have you tried Priest of Magran?
-
Hey guys! So recently i tried to finish another PoTD full run. Unfortunately i'm kinda stuck on creating character. I tried different ones - some work out better than others. Unfortunately the time you have to invest in a class in order to tell if you really like it or not is huge. Some classes get better in midgame or lategame which takes quite some time to accomplish. So i decided i'll ask here maybe someone more experienced will be able to help and answer couple questions. First question about retaliation - is there any class that works well with it using mostly retaliation items? I was thinking about building a tank with Coat of Ill-Payment and Sura Supper Plate eventually Dragon's Maw and a on handed weapon. I don't really want to rely on Fire Godlikes. Is there any class that work really well with retalation or not really? Second - Ciphers. I would like to build one with 2 handed weapon and sturdy/heavy armor. Possible or a waste of time? Last one - Priests - mostly Priest of Magran and Priest of Berath. I uterlly hate playing one in cloth/leather armor. I'm more of a battle cleric guy and as far as i know wearing heavy armor hurts recovery quite a lot. Question is - is it still comfortable to play even in brigandine/mail armor? When it comes to Priest of Magran i like his flexibility. I would like to build one around his Arquebus passive and perhaps Steadfast + Shield. Add Abydon Hammer later on. Also Scion of Flame fits the class really well and synergizes with a lot of priest spells. The downside is a lot of those weapons come really late. Priest of Berath - i like his dispositions a little more, i could run with Tidefall which comes relatively early. But same question about armor and casting time applies. Does it make sense to build a battle cleric in this game or not really?
-
Hey guys, so as the title says - i was thinking of playing Retaliate Rogue using Sura shield and Ill Coat armor to stack some Retaliation. Does it work well with Riposte and Deep Wounds? How much damage can such Rogue do? Is it worth it? I know anything can work on lower difficulties but I'm thinking PotD difficulty not necessarily solo.

Hey guys, really appreciate all the great ideas you shared with me regarding Wizard. i'll probably drop the ideas of putting 4 talents into Elemental Mastery spells and just go with one maybe two. Secrets of Rime and Scion of Flame seem to be good choice. I'll decide later on. I do realize I'l lose +3 Res on Gyrd when switching weapons - i don't mind really - still valuable out of combat situations in order to reach dialogue options through 16 Resolve that i can't get otherwise. Plus maxed out it's insanse boost to ACC - that wand has like 21 or something. I'll drop some AoE spells, kill as much as i can and then go into melee with Citzal and beat the sh!t out of things that survived initial slaughter. Interrupting Blows, Weapon Focus, Bloody Slaughter and Two Handed Style sounds great - i'll probably focus on these. I'll figure out something later on. Regarding survival - where does Wizard defense come from? His damage as i presume comes from debuffing with things like Blind etc. then some talents, buffing myself with Eldritch Aim ( does it stack with other +ACC buffs like potions and Priest spells? ), Focused Gaze and DAoM ( does +50% increased attack speed work with Citzal? ). What about the defense? Llengarth Safeguard? What are the crucial defense spell i should go into melee with?

I thought of something like this : MIG ~16 (19-20 with any +3/4 item quite easy any headgear ring or belt will do ) CON 10 ( 13 with +3 Belt of Consitution) DEX 10 ( 14 with +4 Viettro Formal Footwear ) PER 16 ( 20 with +4 Mantle of Excavator ) INT 16 ( 20 with +4 Gwyn's Band of Union) RES 10 ( 16 with +3 Kerdhed Pames and +3 Gyrd Haewanes Stenes ) Looks pretty solid i think - i don't want to tank anything i just don't want to die to a single hit or so. Mind you i already have 3 people ( okay 1 Human, 1 Godlike and a fox ;D ) in melee and often fight in corridors etc. Not sure about talents though. I've heard Blast and Penetrating Blast is pretty strong. So i'll probably pick those. Not sure about Arcane Veil and Hardened Veil. Putting two points into something that i can use only two times per rest sounds like a waste. I thought of putting 4 points into elemental passives - like Secrets of Rime, Scion of Flame etc. as it will not only increase my damage with most spells by 20% but also increase DR by 5 on each of respective elements. Not sure about the rest.. Superior Deflection or Weapon Focus? Wizard is one of those classes i completely don't know how to build.
-
Soo - i tested out various build. I tried monk - despite the fact it's really powerful build i can't get myself into it. Roleplay wise. I also tried Boeroer's melee Ranger. And absolutely love it! Unfortunately i already play with Sagani and there are often situations when i can't DPS because of how many people are in melee already. There is me plus my pet, Eder as main tank, Pallegina as offtank and Sagani's pet. I'm playing without Wizard and Druid so i realized i'm lacking some sort of mob ruler. The thing is i hate playing a mage in every single game. I always prefered Knight in shining armor over squishy guy in a robe. Fortunately Pillars of Eternity is one of those games you can build pretty much anything you want - so i came up with idea i would like to try a different approach to wizard. I played Diablo 3 some time ago and fell in love with Horadrim Mage design. But i don't really know how to build one. It's either wizard or cipher. I would like to play close to the frontline, perhaps with some sort of reach weapon. As wizard i would like to fight with conjured weapons - i really like the design of Concelhaut Parasitic Staff. Also later on it is very versatlie with Citzal Spirit Lancer or Caedebald Blackbow. Normally i would probably use Gyrd Haewanes Stenes and Greenstone Staff. Cipher on the other hand - no idea if it is possible to build him around two hander. I love Pollaxes though i know they are kinda crap in this game. Is cipher in melee without shield or 2 one handers viable? Here is the Horadrim design i was talking about ;
-
So, i tried Cipher - it's really great class with very powerful spells - especially paralyze - however it doesn't really seem to fit my playstyle. Mainly because i wanted to use 2 pistols - and two pistols only. I also play with Sagani and Durance in range. 3 of us use piercing type of damage. And as you can imagine it's a pain in the ass whenever there is an enemy with high defense on this type of damage. So i thought i would like to try something else - a sturdy melee with some crushing damage preferably two handed + ranged weapon when needed. I already have tank and offtank so i don't really want to build another guy with sword and board. Which class would you recommend for that role? I was thinking fighter, paladin or barbarian. I would like something that strikes hard and crits often not necessarily fast.
-
Hmm.. I guess I'll go with Cipher then. Range DPS is a little bit easier for me to manage on PoTD + since i won't take Hiravias nor Aloth i will need someone to debuff or damage in AoE manner. Should have nice synergy between companions I'm going with. Zahua as main tank, Pallegina as offtank, Durance for buffs and off DD and Sagani as regular DD. Will see how it will turn out.

Hey guys! So here is the case. So far i finished the game twice - first time at the very beginning in vanilla Pillars of Eternity and second time when White March part I launched. A lot changed since then - i tried various builds, various classes usually played for couple days to see what they are capable of. I would like to play one more time to close the story and check what happened with White March in part II. I'm struggling with the class choice though. Usually i have concept in my mind, play with it and end up dissatisfied with choice i made. I always play on PoTD with expert mode on for immersion and overall better experience. Plus i try to take companions I haven't played yet with for fresh dialogues etc. Unfortunately some of the classes seems to be "must" when playing on PoTD - i.e priest or wizard. So here are couple ideas i had in mind, maybe you guys will be able to sort this one outfor me. First of all i don't really like min maxing - i like my builds to be viable and strong with good synergy not necessarilly top dps, broken or OP. I'm going to play with in game companions and i don't like to min/max. I had three classes in my mind. First one - Priest of Magran - i generally like the idea of Inquisitor that uses Arquebuss and Abydon's Hammer. I've heard priest are really strong and generally this choice would suit me well if not for two things - I'm kinda afraid that later on in the game i won't really have time to use any of those weapons as i will either way end up buffing my team all the time, or just cast spells that will be much more powerfull than what i can deal with traditional weapons, and when i will go in melee to hit with hammer i will quickly die because of how squishy priest is. Second one - Paladin - probably Goldpact Knight. It's a continuation of idea above - Crusader type with hammer and arbalest or something. More sturdy, has nice damage with FoD on and has great synergy with what i had in mind for him - buffing his +burn damage, casting fire scrolls when needed, resistant to various CC, high defense good single target damage. The thing is i just love the look of tempered helm. I love the idea of "on kill effects" that are on it + synergy with paladin abilities that pretty much do the same - whenever i kill an enemy i buff people around me. The only downside is that i actually have to deal killing blow. I'm not sure if i can build him so he will be able to do that most of time without having to micromanage to much or delay killing monsters only to allow him to kill them. Last but not least - something totally different that i had in mind for months now - cipher Witch Hunter. A guy who uses two guns - pistol and blunderbuss. Maybe twin sting later on. Thanks to high perception able to tell when people are lying, with good mechanic to maintain his guns in good shape, disarming traps or setting them when needed. Generally everything that a good Witch Hunter should have to see through various disguises and illusions. When comes to stats i usually go with 16-17 Might and Intellect and rotate the third stat - on priest i went with dexterity to reduce time needed for each action, on paladin and cipher perception because i wanted to crit a lot to land those "killing blows". I wanted to play with Zahua as main tank, Pallegina as offtank and Sagani as Range DD only because i haven't played with them yet so their stories are fresh. I know playing without a wizard, priest or druid is kinda suicide but i played with Aloth, Durance and Hiravias couple times already. I can take Durance one more time - i don't mind having one guy that i already played with but that's just about it. Anyone can share some words of wisdom on those classes?

Hirelings & Stronghold Quests..
Isaea replied to Isaea's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Thanks guys, appreciate the help - hired two -
Hey guys, just a quick question regarding hirelings and stronghold quests aka adventures - is it possible to create a custom hireling (or multiple) in tavern, leave him in Caed Nua and sent on missions whenever they appear? Or does it have to be NPC like Kana Rua, Aloth etc. If it does work - is there any downside? Like - the lower the level of hireling the lower success chance on mission?

How to adjust leveling?
Isaea replied to Isaea's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Thanks guys for the ideas, fortunately after browsing through archived topics i was able to find the one i mentioned. Mychal26 explained everything in convenient way If anyone is interested here is the topic i was talking about : http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/84356-too-fast-leveling/page-2?hl=%20when%20%20stalwart -
Hey guys - i had a break for couple months from Pillars - just realized few patches hit live version and suddenly felt i want to go on a journey again However there is something that bothers me since the beginning - leveling. I would like to level a little slower. I remember there was simple fix regarding notepad editing but can't seem to find it now. You could change couple lines using notepad on game files and adjust amount of XP needed to hit next level by certain % - like 25, 30 or 50%. Someone even explained everything down but can't seem to find it right now. Is anyone able to help me sort this one out?

Hey guys.. So i played yesterday and everything was fine - today patch 3.02 hit GoG and my game got updated. Unfortunately i can't load any games after that update. There is just nothing there, no saved games at all to choose from. There are files in my save game folder but it seems like game can't see/load them. This is how the save game folder looks like. I have GoG Pillars of Eternity with both White March expansion packs. Any ideas what happened? Nevermind - i reloaded the game, got a GoG client restart and it seems to work fine now!

3.01 Druid shapeshift visual bug.
Isaea replied to Isaea's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Much appreciated! Thank you Aarik for quick response! Keep up the good work! -
I've got a question regarding White March part II release date and GoG - i realized that most of the patches so far has been released day or two later on GoG than it was on Steam so my question is - can we expect second part of WM hit GoG on 16th as announced or is it Steam exclusive and we will have to wait for it?

Update #101: Update 2.02 is Live
Isaea replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Hey Guys! Great work on patch 2.02 can't wait to try it out - unfortunately i have GOG version so i can't play it yet and it makes me wonder - if i started game two days ago - currently trying to beat Path of the Damned + Trial of Iron and in Expert Mode does GOG achievements work retrospectively? Can i still play it and implement the patch later on when it's live on GOG or in order to get the achievements i will actually have to start a new game? -
Hey Xzolatan! As far as i'm concerned there are no such modifications. I'm currently working on Trial of Iron playthrough myself, and i have to admit, that it was difficult to get used to it at first. I'll share ideas that helped me overcome the struggle. Trial of Iron is a special kind of tool that comes in handy when you want to observe your reactions. What most people do these days is - save game. Save it before heading in battle, saving before entering new location, saving before starting conversation, sometimes we quicksave after autosave.. Just to be sure. The general idea is "When i play - i have a plan in my mind, and if something goes wrong or differently than I expected i'll just quickload and retry until I'm satisfied with results." It is suppouse to be one of the hardest achievements yet we want to finish it just so we could say we did it, and move on. The plan works brilliantly if you can just F5 to quicksave and F9 to quickload and everything takes less than 5 seconds. The problem starts when it takes more than that, and you get annoyed everytime you have to do it. The more you want to control the more you suffer. Normally your mind ignores it because everything is happening so fast that it is more of a switch than actual process. You truly experience it when you have to quit the game, go to main menu, load to game and you actually have to click the buttons out there! And it takes hell of a time out there too, like.. 15 seconds or so! :D I tell you what - I'm playing Trial of Iron with Expert mode on as a Priest of Berath. In order to be a good one I'm suppouse to be Rational and Stoic and avoid being Cruel and Passionate. What i do is - I'm stoic when i read dialogue options, I'm trying to be rational when choosing option but sometimes - when innocent kid suffers, when young girl is abused by her family, when i see hopes and dreams crush and crumble i get a little bit emotional - I'm Human Being after all. I might suck as a Priest of Berath but man the fun I'm having. Honestly i think that is the point of playing video games. You might actually learn something about yourself IF you allow it. It's your time after all, wheter you decide to make best use of what you have or pump yourself up with negative emotions is up to you. You got the tools - use it! I'll leave you with one of my favourites "Berath teaches us that duality exists in all things. There is Life in Death, and Death in Life - embrace this duality and you honor Berath."

Hi boys and girls, I've read a lot of topics where people share their ideas on different builds - great source of knowledge - at least most of it Anyway i played few hours trying different styles and classes and i came to the point where i decided what i want just don't know how to optimize it. I'm going to play Path of the Damned with Expert Mode on. What i want is a two-handed "dragon slayer" kinda character - by dragon slayer i mean pike and heavy crossbow or arbalest on the back. From what i heard it's either fighter or barbarian because paladin is more of a tank than DPS. I've got everything covered apart from stats. I don't really like min/max and decided that i want to play as human. This is what i came up with : Might - 19 Constitution - 8 Dexterity - 15 Perception - 10 Intellect - 16 Resolve - 10 How important is intellect comparing to dexterity? I do understand that higher intellect means longer knockdown but on PotD every fight is longer and after i use all my skills i'm just sitting there hoping for a crit. Last time i played i felt like i have a lot of misses and very slow attack which could be frustrating when a fight with xaurip which you could end in two or three hits last for a minute or two :D Any ideas/tips - how should i build in order to maximize pros of a pike/crossbow fighter build?
