Infinity Ward founders canned by Activision

Don't quite know. But I'd guess they might have been shopping around ideas to other publishers http://kotaku.com/5484046/infinity-ward-vs...ative-direction http://kotaku.com/5483492/scandal-hits-cal...ow-%5Bupdate%5D Probably part of the lead up: http://kotaku.com/5080486/infinity-ward-gu...uy-super-douche -
Not saying they don't have SOME style, but that GoW's is better done and (in my eyes) has more style to it.

It is a game in a loose definition of the term. All games require interactivity, and this requires it quite a bit in order for it to actually go anywhere. Yes, but when the vast majority of the interaction occurs as a QTE, the interactivity becomes negligible. It does, as you said, fit the "loose definition" of a game... But HR to me seems like an attempt to fully fuse movies and games, but that ends up missing the best of both worlds: the excitement of games and the director-defined experience of movies. Except it's not JUST quick time events. It's also character interaction, the decision on what action to take (do you talk the psycho down? or do you talk him up into going nuts and killing people so you can take a shot?) effects how the story plays out.
-
Then I guess it comes down to style. Devil May Cry is more about the style of action than characters, environment, or story. God of War is more of a brutal version of DMC with a stylish set of characters environments and a good story, which appears to be what he's getting at. DMC is ONLY style, God of War is significantly more.

I wouldn't call it boring. MoHAA and CoD1 built up what is the current shooter genre as we know it. Standardized ironsight aiming, the pacing, and the good mix of story and gameplay that didn't include half lifes LONG LONG periods of nothingness were both born from this particular game. And the good use of music in Medal of Honor. -
I actually bought it, and put it in. all it did was pull up a launcher and then send me into steam. NO install data, no game data.

Also, it appears that certain game companies have decided that if they're releasing something over steam, the game disk you get from them, doesn't actually have the game on it. You have to dl it from steam ANYWAY (SupCom2). Seems like a stupid idea to me.

Because I'd wanted it to be a dumping ground for basically any random news that you found in your 'net travels, not just that one story. -

Did two tests, felt good about one, horrible about the other, then slept. This morning my radio station started dropping the morning show (from Vegas) every time the word "erection" was mentioned because they're overly defensive. They still haven't quite figured out whats going on. And now I've got work today.

Haha, there's some interesting stuff leaking out. IW got raided by "corporate security". I swear, Activision is going to be MJ12 and Bob Page will be replaced by Bobby Kotick. Kotick has since come out and retracted some of those statements. As to IW. I think the problem is that their product has just become WAYYYY to over proliferated. Also their quality has dropped as Acti keeps trying to push the deadlines shorter and shorter.

Figured we should throw one of these out instead of having a thread for each scrap of video game news that appears. That said, here's something to start us off: Looks like Infinity Ward is going to be in legal trouble with daddy over breach of contract. Not much is currently known, but there may be a shake up (which may lead to a Rockband/Guitar Hero esque battle... Medal of Honor doesn't count). http://kotaku.com/5483427/activision-cites...insubordination

rrod worked in our favor. had a clunky xbox 360 elite that were as noisy as a twin-engine cesna taxing down a runway. built date were late 2006. a month ago we get rrod and had to send console to mesquite, texas for repair. no repair o' our console... we got either a new or refurbished console (from somewheres in tennessee) that purrs like a kitten and were built in late 2009... only drawback were the 2.5 weeks we were without our xbox console. nextgen consoles will be coming out in 2011 or 2012 and now we got a newer/better machine with which to endure the wait. am having a hard time finding genuine cause to complain. does microsoft seems like a bunch o' dolts for screwing up so many o' their consoles? sure they do, but they is spending big money to fix the situation. no doubt other folks got nightmare stories to tell, but Gromnir is reasonably satisfied with the customer care we has received... and heck, at least there is games we actually want to play on the xbox360. HA! Good Fun! Actually, suits at sony have said that currently there is 0 need for another hardware upgrade (PS4 or whatever). They mentioned this at the same time they said they were quite happy with how heavy rain is selling.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/supreme-commander-2-review Just thought I'd post that. Gamespot liked it to (for what it's worth). BUT they both note that the fun of the game comes from the changing tech trees and the numerous options you get as you level through them, which only really comes into play in multiplayer. Single player is a "stilted" affair without much character (even less than the previous game).

Going into law enforcement or are you trying to collect on the eventual bounties? Overall I'm about halfway through and my favorite character is the FBI agent. Of course I am still bugged that EVERYONE says Origami as "Orgami" as if they're from boston FOR ONLY THAT WORD!

It's just the leap year. This'll glitch software, even kotaku points out that this isn't nearly the first time that it happened. The Zune for example also had this happen to it during a leap year.

SupCom2 got me all happy, then I played the demo. Didn't like the demo (for reasons stated in the other thred) Thus went back to SC1's UEF campaign. I love an economy like this: ... Dang it resized. THe original is bigger with a 434 income of metal and 28k income of energy (I had two strat nuke silos waiting and a pile of things drawing off the power grid.)
-
Just finished the demo. It feels like they took everything that people expected supreme commander to have, and cut it in the middle. Big Battles? There, but not as big as you're used to. Macro economy? Kinda there, but you do still have a flat number you can spend as you earn more, none of that "use it as it's coming in" stuff. I do like the new graphics. But if they'd remade SC1 with those graphics I'd have bought it, now... I'm not so sure. It's almost the exact same thing as what happened to DoW.

You should, the term awesome doesn't cover the game. Today I was trying to go to school... and locked myself out of my car at a gas station for an hour.

Just finished it. I can't say that it impressed me. If anything, it pushed me farther away from a purchase. Not appreciating the changes to the gameplay. You annoyed the crap out of ric0. He started yellin in killing floor that you'd better stop entering the demo .
