Maybe you just need what Dr John watson would call an 'alterative'. To reset your system. Do some stuff that you wouldn't normally consider doing. You'll hate it, but hopefully remind yourself who you are.

Illegal butchers cleaning with underpants. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-24733189 What kind of NUTTER deliberately buys underpants and cleans a food preparation area with them, rather than cloths. It's not as if cloths are expensive. ...Also, WTF were his dustmen thinking? Dozens of bloodstained pants turning up in the refuse!

I think Stratfor's commentary on this has been very interesting. I find Obama's claims of innocence to be disingenuous at best. Tens of thousands of people - including the 'outraged' foreign governments - knew the NSA was monitoring their citizens. Why the hell do you think they were so keen on collaborating with the NSA? You think Spain's militants give the authorities an easy ride because don't have fancy tech? Having said that I agree with Bruce that the President does NOT know every single god damned activity in the Federal machine. In all honesty I'd have expected Guard Dog to use this as an argument against the Federal machine being so extensive. Rather than claiming it is self-aware. For god's sake. The head of a UK town council doesn't know half the stuff they are doing.

I 100% agree with Bruce on the debate for this page. If you don't engage seriously in this particular forum then you're sitting wanking in a perfectly good whorehouse. Taking the stand that because some nation HAS been bad means it will always BE bad, that is the manifesto of abject darkness. It condemns all nations equally, and perpetually.

Nearing the end of the diary of Anne Frank. It's all a bit creepy just now. If you've read it, you'll know why.

I dunno, man. I kind of think of 73 as an ideal innings.

That sounds quite nice, is it based on a true story? And what would you recommend to drink to be able to watch that movie? We were working our way through a list of whisky drintails. And a few beers. And i think a bottle of wine.

My condolences, if you are watching the Korean version. Korean version? It's about an orphan prostitute. No this one was about a baity Austrian fellow with one testicle who had his dreams of being an artist thwarted by War. Actually, put like this it sounds like the kind of thing they'd invent to win a Palm D'Or.

I'll cheerfully defer if our legally trained members disagree, but I was always taught that the law HAS to be interpretive in order to deliver justice. Because laws cannot possibly be drafted to account for every circumstance in which they might apply. If WoD does in fact attempt to apply the law without conscience or referring to circumstance then I can only pray nightly that I never have to work with him or for him. Eh, there are too many fundamentalists in this thread for me to bother writing a long reply, especially on the topic of "theory vs. practice". Oh, go on. You will.

Too true. Corruption and violence are just part of the charm of the place. How dare we assume Russians don't actively enjoy having no free opposition!

iirc, your normal day begins with a cup of tea and a ponder ...and leaves you still feeling flat. Have you tried the passionate rhythms of the salsa?

At the point where something is called The Patriot Act I get ****ing suspicious. If it is clearly and coherently something that patriots will support then it doesn't need to have that in the title.

I think the thing I despise about Obama is that he's not a million miles away from me. he's better educated, and more driven, and he's overcome racial prejudice. But he's basically intellectual and motivated to achieve public good. But the really important thing he's not accepted is one simple truth: the man who won't make enemies has no friends. Being President is not a popularity contest, and it's not a debating forum. But he treats it as both. Consequently he has failed to cancel domestic programs like the NSA tapping, or Gitmo, which go against his ethics just because he doesn't want new domestic enemies. He's also refused to back countries like Britain on the Falklands for fear of making new enemies. All this does is lose people who are already friends. Yet who has he actually converted? I'd challenge anyone to name a single new US _ally_.
