  1. The patch might possibly be forthcoming, eh? No offense to anybody, but it's too late, the damage is done. I can only speak for myself, of course, but I am less likely to buy or recommend any of Obsidian's games in the future...and for a pretty dumb reason, if you think about it. When this patch is released it's not likely to make much difference. It's not even going to affect gameplay, as I understand it. But Obsidian's communication with the gaming community, on both patches, has been (at best) ham-fisted. Even if the fault of the matter were to lay with Lucasarts, it bespeaks an impotence on the part of Obsidian. In my humble opinion, the best way to handle an issue like this would have been for the developers to post a locked, sticky thread (or something of the like) saying something like: "For now, the media patch is delayed. It will be released but we have no control over when this will be. Please be patient." Better yet, put it at the top of the home page below where it currently says "Patch released". But instead, various devs (and I do understand the difficult position they are in) have randomly posted short notes in the midst of threads which have generally disappear within a week. This gives the impression (in my opinion) that developer is shrugging its metaphorical shoulders rather than dealing with the...er, disgruntlement...of the fans, however fickle we may be. And we are pretty damned fickle. 90% of the posts on any gaming forum hover around/below the mental maturity level of a cranky gibbon with a pawfull of squidge. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, I would suggest that clear and direct communication from the devs--even if it's no news--would be much more effective than sporadic, passive/aggressive posting. I would never blackball Obsidian just because they've screwed up once. Their next game will speak for itself. But I will be 5x as wary. And, if there are problems, I hope they confront any issues directly next time.
  2. Sincere statement: I agree with the last two meatbags, more or less.
  3. Sarcastic statement: You are pretty cool, meatbag.
  4. To be perfectly honest, I haven't finished the game yet. Got about halfway through, had some weird things happen with my companions and decided to quit and wait for the patch. Admittedly, that was some time ago and I, like most people, am impatient. But I don't expect the patch to be a panacea for the game's ills. I just hope it lets me finally turn Handmaiden into a jedi. So, having not finished it I can't comment on the latter half of the game. By all accounts it loses its luster and the story fragments, creating a chain-reaction which will soon destroy the known gaming universe...that is, if you listen to half the posts on this forum. To answer your question, if I knew for a fact that the next game would be fragmented and buggy I probably wouldn't buy it. But I don't and can't know that. What I do know is that many of the people at Obsidian have, in the past, worked on games that I loved. And even if that weren't true, they've only made one game. I think it's fair to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's just a game, you know?
  5. A lovely rant--and one I largely agree with. I have nothing against OE and demonizing Lucas Arts doesn't achieve anything. However, I'd still like an answer to my previous question. I wasn't asking rhetorically.
  6. If you assume that the majority of KotOR II players (meaning non-whingy, non-forum posting types) would like a third part to the series, who would you suggest do it if not OE? Bioware isn't an option. (nor is Bethesda--less sprawl, more game please next time Bethesda!)
  7. LOL! All I can think of is playing this game with the Lektor instead of new voice acting! (Instead of dubbing on tv we've got a guy called the Lektor who reads all the characters' dialogue in a monotonous voice, no matter if they're male or female. It takes some of the heat out of passionate love scenes, IMHO. And you can still kind of hear the original dialogue, to boot)
  8. Thank you for the update. I shall lurk less agitatedly now.
  9. Bioware, Blizzard, Bethesda...still going. Black Isle folded. Don't know if B for Black Isle gets credit, in this sense.
  10. I'm not usually one to complain, and I'm sorry to put my first post on this thread (hello), but I wanted to add my 2cents to the bucket. I don't see much point in online petitions or starting flame wars over a patch, but there is some point to be made. I played about half the game and I really liked it. Good story, I think, and some interesting characters. Like other people (probably) I had some issues--nothing show stopping, but definitely vexing. So I'm patiently waiting in the hopes that the patch will sort out a few of them. Ce la vie. Mainly I wanted to contribute to the discussion because, for every person who vocally gripes on the internet about the problems of this game, there are probably many people like me, who wait quietly and a little frustratedly and who might be a little more shy about buying the game next time. I don't mean that as a dig at Obsidian, I really don't. I just don't want them to end up like Black Isle or Troika because it means that many fewer great rpgs. Troika made 3 interesting games but they all had significant problems, even after patching. The KOTOR2 patch? It's done when it's done and it fixes what it fixes, IMHO. I'm going back to lurking, in any case. But I really hope that the next game they do, NWN2 or whatnot, gets that extra bit of polish rather than continuing a Troika-esque trend.
