  1. Thanks mate, simple as that! I guess I was just being impatient.
  2. Very funny but they've already released the patch a couple of minutes ago, so this post can't go on.
  3. I think I'm just being stupid but I can't see a way of pre-loading my guns. IE. When I get one of my characters to try a slow gun, I'd like to load the gun before combat, fire the gun then switch to another ranged weapon. But what I'm finding is when I start combat, the guy starts to reload the gun, taking ages. Any ideas?
  4. I think they dropped the ball with Wizards, I usually play using the main magic using class of any game but I've stopped my Wizard play through in PoE for now. The rest system is fine in my opinion but the spells are a bit lackluster compared to the DnD ones and the other casters in PoE. Lower damage, no summons etc. But saying that, I highly recommend you buy the game as the other classes are excellent. And the game in general is fantastic fun.
  5. Oh, the missing Int bonus on the AoE indicator is a bug (https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73011-aoe-bonuses-from-intellect-stopped-working-on-cipher-spells/). Hopefully they'll fix it in the upcoming patch.
  6. Thanks for the replies, I'm going to give the Cipher a go But shouldn't I be seeing the Int bonus in the AoE selector, like on my Wizard and Druid? I just see a single circle.
  7. Do you think this YouTube reviewer likes PoE? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml3EdUJJOPw
  8. I've seen a couple of builds which indicate Int is a very important stat for Ciphers. So does anyone know if they have a number of AoE spells? Is that why Int is highly recommended or is it mainly for the duration bonus? Cheers! EDIT: Weird. I just started a Cipher with high int (18). I tried using one of the AoE powers (Soul Shock) but I don't see extra AoE indicator from the Int bonus. Is it working, can any Ciphers give some advice. Thanks.
  9. I did some tests, here are the results, in Valewood with my new Druid; With a medium shield (-4 accuracy displayed in item stat) and a hatchet. I cast Dancing Bolts (Foe AOE lightning). The combat log displays my Accuracy as 36 With single hatchet. I cast Dancing Bolts. The combat log displays my Accuracy as 40 With a crossbow. I cast Dancing Bolts. The combat log displays my Accuracy as 40 So it looks like the shield minus accuracy DO affect spell accuracy. I thought I'd post findings (probably been posted before but hey). I think for my Druid, I'll be using a ranged weapon. I want as many of my spells to hit/crit as possible!
  10. Oh man! That brings back happy memories! I remember fighting a demilich (for the Staff of Magus) in BG2 for AGES, my full party always dieing. It was such an achievement when we finally destroyed it. Yeah, unfortunately I think the devs dropped the ball on Wizards in PoE. (I'm only speaking though from a level 5 Wizard, maybe it's much better at high levels). I've restarted as a Druid, I'll see how that goes.
  11. I think Druids have the same thing (low level spells turning into per encounter later). That's what it says on the Druid spell description anyway.
  12. As per title, does anyone know if I'm gimping my caster/spell accuracy when I equip a shield? Thanks!
  13. Ah. I could swear it seemed like swapping them worked that way, but I must have misinterpreted something. I do that a lot when sleepy and haven't gone to bed when I should. Like now. Keep telling myself "I'm going to bed now" but here I am checking in again.... I know what you mean, sometimes it's so difficult to let go. I guess that shows how good this game is (a apart from they mucked up my all time favorite class! )
  14. Exactly what I did after trying out a wizard, and it's much more fun to be honest. So far my cipher spells have decent foe AoE and amazingly good debuffs, while I often don't even use my wizard spells at all due to positioning issues. On top of all that, cipher spells can be used as much as you want, while wizards are very much held back by the rest system. Think back to Baldur's Gate. A limited rest system would have made wizards far less powerful there, and even so, the AD&D wizard spells were far more powerful. So yes, wizards definitely need... well, something. More per-encounter abilities would help. So would better AoE. I'm having such a problem deciding on my re-roll, Cipher or Druid! The Druid has the same limit per rest issue as the Wizard but I don't have a problem with that. At least they have all their spells useable per rest compared to a Wizard. And they have a wider range of spells compared to the Cipher BUT.. the Cipher does have an interesting mechanic and their powers look fun, not a huge number or range of powers but they certainly look effective.
  15. Eventually you'll have multiple grimores that you can swap in between fights (or during a fight, with some delay) to extend spell use on your mage before having to rest. I haven't gotten too terribly far either, so I can't really comment on how awesomely damaging (or not) wizard spells may be, but I haven't been super impressed with the ones up to lvl 5. Not that that is terribly surprising or anything, low level spells. And I have played some games with some friendly fire aspects that I didn't mind/didn't bother me. Just not liking it in PoE at the moment. Just to let you know that swapping spell books doesn't give you extra spell per rest. IE. It won't extend spell use on your mage before having to rest. At least it doesn't do it for me. I think that would be OP anyway. We could have 10 spell books.
  16. I know what you're saying but didn't BG1 Wizards have a ton more utility and variety? Didn't they have spells like invisibility, summons, a lower version of stoneskin (complete absorb X amount of damage). I played BG2 far more than BG1, so I admit my memory is a bit vague on that.
  17. Well at least it's not just me being disappointed with the Wizard. What a downer, I always played a Wizard/Mage in BG1/2, NWN1/2 and most other games. I'm tempted to start again as a Druid or maybe even a ranged Cipher. Is there a beta patch note around somewhere for the patch coming this week? I wonder if there are any Wizard changes.
  18. Yeah, I completely agree with you. In the infinity games, Wizards to me seemed much better and more fun, better defensive spells and their offensive spells certainly had more umph. Plus I'm missing the summoning spells. And I too miss those epic battles against mages where you had to take down their multiple layers of defenses. I just had a battle with some trolls and tried to use that 3rd level magic missile type spell (the one which bounces from target to target) and it did something like 4, 2, 4 damage (probably trolls were the wrong target for that spell but I only have 4 choices!) I'm tempted to re-roll as a Druid as my main but maybe I'll struggle on. Oh, a bit depressed now!
  19. I'm only level 5, so fairly early days but so far the Wizard seems very sub par compared to the Druid and other casters. Wizard Pros They have a slightly greater number of spells which they can learn The spells cover a wider variety of effects. Wizard Minus They are restricted to only 4 usable spells per level. True, I can switch spell books in battle but that takes ages (maybe that talent will help) and every second counts playing this on hard. Their damage spells so far have hardly any Foe AoE, only normal AoE. But even with this extra difficulty of landing these normal AoE spell (which I don't mind, that's how I played BG1/2 NWN 1/2), they also seem to do less damage compared to the Druid spells. One example is my level 3 fireball was doing awful damage to Trolls (was around 20's) compared to a number of Druid spells (some of which are Foe AoE) which were doing a lot more (even the level 1 lightning spell Foe AoE was doing more!) Maybe I'm unlucky (plus maybe I need to choose better spells to land for each foe defense) but my Wizard spells seem to be missing a lot more. So are Wizards just sub par (at least in damage wise) or do they get a lot better later on? My main, a Wood Elf Wizard, has 18 Might, 18 Int, 14 Dex etc so I don't think stats are the problem. Does anyone know if they're planning on doing a balance patch for Wizards?
  20. I'd like to add my voice to this thread. They've made a superb game, I love just about every aspect but the stats, talents and abilities they chose for the pre-made companions are awful. I know, I can make custom characters but I like the personalities and history of the pre-made companions. I think the answer is to allow a (maybe one off per character) respec option. What do you guys think? And on a side note, has anyone tried the IE Mod, mod which has an option to change a character level back to 0 then allows to re-level. Does it work? Does it allow us to choose all the stats, talents and abilities? And does anyone have any thoughts regarding the danger of that mod breaking the save game somehow, perhaps only being noticeable later in the game.
  21. Has anyone tried this IE Mod to reset companion levels back to 1 then re-level? I'm tempted but don't want to screw up my save game. Cheers!
  22. Thanks for testing that. Maybe there is some other way of speeding up the chants. Or maybe the battles will take longer later on, so making the chanter more viable. By the way, do you know if the number of chants in a song changes how long it takes to get to 3 chants? EG. If I have a song with only 1 repeating chant, will that build the 3 chants needed for an invocation quicker than a song with 3 chants? Complicated stuff!
  23. First of all, well done for making this instant classic and superb CRPG. I feel like I'm playing BG again but with some great improvements/changes. I could go on all day about this fantastic game but there is one thing which is driving me crazy(er). The companion's stats, talent and ability choices are insane. I know, it can be argued that these add to the RP character of the companions and we can always roll are own at an inn but that's not an answer. I want the awesome character personalities and story that you've written for these companions but the choice of stat, talent and ability is a real problem for me. What about adding the option to respec? That way, I can keep these very well written companions but have not so crap stats/talents/abilities. I know there is a mod (called IE Mod) which allows to change the characters level back to 1 then re-level up but does anyone know if this is OK, long term? I've seen mods break save games in other games such as Skyrim, so I'm a bit hesitant to try a mod for this. And will that mod refund stat, talent and ability choices?
  24. Oh dear, I seem to remember double clicking on items to equip at various times. I've had a quick check of my PC and can't see anything obvious missing. He's a Wood Elf Wizard and it's still listing the Distant Advantage in his ability list. Should I be checking for anything else? And how do I kick companions and Inn made hirelings out (and rejoin) of my party? Thanks.
