  1. If you want to understand what short selling really is you watch Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Akaroyd. Plus it was a funny and good movie
  2. Today I’m packing up, setting up the chicken feeder, loading Sunny into the truck and heading south. It’s cold. It’s wet. It’s depressing. Going to Florida for camping and fishing on the Gulf Coast. Maybe Shired Island. Maybe farther south. Somewhere there are no people. See you guys later
  3. Hey Dan was it worse than the typhoid vaccine? I remember that one being pretty terrible.
  4. You beat me to it! I was just coming here to post this! If this story doesn’t make you laugh I don’t know what will!
  5. Been there, done that, never again!
  6. Well I just found out that my time in my current job is coming to an end. I suppose I should’ve seen this coming because the amount of work that was being funneled our way was being dramatically reduced to about none for the last week. Can’t say the hand writing wasn’t on the wall. I have no desire to move to Nashville so I’m going to take the walk away package. Time to figure out what comes next.
  7. No one is going in the Hall of Fame this year. Kurt Schilling fell about 15 votes short. Apparently he’s asking for his name to be removed from next year‘s ballot in some kind of a temper tantrum. But what do you expect from him. It looks like support for Mcgwire and Bonda has plateaued. It’s probably not going to happen except through the veterans committee. The BWAA Is really dropping the ball when it comes to these Hall of Fame votes. This year a record number of ballots were returned blank.
  8. You don’t have to buy the idea one hundred percent understand there is merit to be found in it. It doesn’t have to be all of one thing or all of another. Although that does appear to be the assumption people make around here at least when it comes to contrary opinions.
  9. never mind. If you happen to see what I posted here before I erased it please accept my apologies. It was uncharacteristically nasty and nothing that Gorth or any other who felt they were a target of my derision deserved. I’m just in a bad mood today I guess. Plus I am beginning to find these political discussions extremely tedious because they are so repetitive. It only took 15 years to get to this point.
  10. Hey once it falls off the front page I tend to forget about them
  11. I just find it ironic that many times the people who oppose price controls are in favor of minimum-wage and it’s expansion. A widget is worth what a widget is worth. But that’s just me being philosophical. Like I told the great legal barbarian of the west The ideas of free markets, real economic liberty, in the Austrian school have been rejected. We’re just not going to do them.
  12. Does anyone here think price controls are a good idea? Artificially fixing the price of a widget based on some arbitrary value or idea?
  13. Biden said the capitol building was the “citadel of liberty “? Now THAT is funny! That’s like calling the fox the defender of the henhouse! That’s like referring to a pimp as an HR manager. The citadel of liberty if it even exists is the bookshelf, the library, the church, mosque, and temple, maybe the classroom, definitely the gun safe. And most of all In that space between the ears of the people who value it. It sure as hell is not going to be a capital building or anywhere politicians gather
  14. Honeydew fresh off the vine! It just don’t get better than that!
  15. It took a little work and reading a few books before I got the hang of it. But it is extremely satisfying. A lot of work but worth it. This spring I’m going to try something different.
  16. You guys should consider growing your own vegetables. They grow just as well in flower pots and window planters as houseplants do, you know. Also there is a range of products for indoor air gardens. They allow you to grow herbs and small plants right in your kitchen. Self sufficiency is a big drive for me as most of you know. But you don’t need to move out to the sticks and start a farm to attain a small measure of it. You cannot grow all your vegetables from an apartment or townhouse (probably) but you can do a little
  17. I say no more portraits on money. No more statues either. whoever they are, whatever they’ve done, sooner or later it’s going to piss someone off. Money should be a plain green bill with the value written on it in big black numbers
  18. I don’t know. If creative assembly ever makes total war 2021 I’ll be able to formulate a more intelligent answer. 😂
  19. Sometimes the dog is worthy of the bark. I remember we were coming back from Korea it was either after valiant blitz in 91 or team spirit and 92 I forget. Anyway we are taking a ship back and we were stuck at the port in Naha Okinawa. It was going to be a couple of hours before the trucks come down to get us and all the equipment so we did what any good marine in that situation would do: establish a watch for the equipment and everyone not on watch adjourned to the nearest bar to get a drink. That turned out to be this little crappy open air shed with picnic tables and all they had was Orien beer but that was OK because I was well a custom to it by that time. Anyway A team of Navy SEALs had been on the ship with us and we’re in the same predicament so we hung out there with them for a couple of hours had a few beers and swap stories. I have to say those guys were tough customers and extremely cool to just sit and shoot the breeze with.
  20. The army is confusing. A specialist is a sergeant but not. Different regiments attached to different divisions but they’re all interchangeable. Their rank structures a mess. And if you think that’s bad look at the rates and ranks of the US Navy. Now there is a hot mess. That’s one thing I loved about the Marine Corps. The rank system is very straightforward. A lance corporal in one unit reach the same as a lance corporal in any other. No special titles, no different uniforms, it very much buys into what they used to say back in my day you’re a marine first everything else comes second
  21. Exactly. The 82nd airborne is one of the most prestigious units in the US Army. But like every other unit it has sections that are not dedicated to the airborne infantry. It will have an administrative section, intelligence, logistics, special services, it will have medics, armorers, all the personnel needed to run an army division. They are all in the 82nd but not all can call themselves airborne.
  22. I was not in the army and I’m not exactly sure how they do it. But I believe army ranger is a MOS. You can be in a Ranger unit without having the MOS but you’re not a Ranger unless you have the MOS and have been through the school. In the Marine Corps the elite school is the scout sniper school. There are scout sniper is attached to every infantry Regiment. but they do not have the same MOS as an infantryman.
  23. People who do that kind of thing annoy the absolute hell out of me.
