  1. The Drudge Report does not produce news. They just link to other people's work. Lot's of other sites. Also Mother Jones really should be in the orange box. I like USA Today. It's like news for folks with ADD. I'm a little fed up with Was Po. I have the Kindle subscription but it's becoming all commentary and not a lot of news reporting. It used to be a lot closer to the print version. The one magazine I read every month is National Geographic. That one I'll never cancel.
  2. Ha ha. You know I also said this: You know if you wanted to score some points on me for contradicting myself you probably don't need to rely on an out of context contrivance. I've been posting here for 15 years. I'm quite sure I've contradictory for real before.
  3. If Trump is removed Pence becomes President for the next year and 28 days. Pence is capable, boring, and competent. He is not a man who will inspire passion on the right. Rather than pour gas on a smoldering fire on the right I'd expect his rhetoric will be calm and measured which means he might be the right guy at the right time if Trump is removed. He is very religious which will drive the left wingers and a lot of you guys crazy. (How DARE he believe in something I don't!) It is questionable he would even run in 2020. He was getting ready to retire when his 2nd term as Indiana governor was ending in 2016. And even if Trump is removed he can still run again next year AND be re-elected. Now wouldn't THAT be a lit torch in the hay barn? I don't even give a f--k anymore to tell you the truth. Trump is despicable. Obama thought I and people like me were likely terrorists. His admin sold guns to drug cartels in some half assed "investigation" about how guns come back into the country from Mexico. He weaponized the IRS, thought it would be perfectly fine to use military air strikes against US citizens, yadda, yadda, yadda. He was despicable. Bush brought us Iraq & the Patriot Act. He was despicable. With very few exceptions (Gabbard, Yang, and maybe Klobuchar) the democrat nominee is either going to be Obama 2.0 or one of the crazy lefties who dream of a big intrusive state that will happily kill you if you don't do as you're told. So the next President will also be despicable. The only thing we can hope for is Congress is controlled by the opposite party and has the spine to assert it's enumerated powers. Which is WHY I supported Trump's impeachment in the first place.
  4. Russia is (supposedly) planning a moon base run by robots to track near earth objects: https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/world-news/russia-build-moon-base-run-21118242 Sounds like a wonderful and wonderfully expensive idea. I remember the Russian robot cop from a few years ago. I wonder if a few years in space this: Becomes this:
  5. I'm curious. I am, as far as I know, the most anti-marxist poster on this board. Having read everything that you have from me would you call me conservative? I certainly would not identify myself as such.
  6. Oh and by the way @ComradeMaster a pretty good bit of everything I write is tongue in cheek.
  7. There is very little about the modern Republican party that is politically "conservative" outside of clinging to conservative social mores. There is actually nothing wrong with holding on to social values based on faith and religion. It is perfectly OK to think abortion and gay marriage and (insert thing here) is wrong. It's not OK, however, when you try to impose your ethics on someone else. Don't like gay marriage? Fine. Don't marry a gay person. Don't go to the wedding, don't send them a gift. But you don't get to tell someone else they can't because you don't like it. Same thing with abortion. I think it is barbaric myself and would never participate in one. I would discourage anyone who asked me from doing it. But I don't get to tell them they can't. My ethics are mine alone and govern only my actions. The Democrats and progressives are every bit as bad. They don't like firearms therefore you can't have them. They are offended by (insert thing here) therefore you can't say it, read it, watch it, do it, etc. Every evil act in the history of mankind begins when one group of people think they get to tell another group of people how they should be living. It's our inability to just leave each other alone, to live and let live, that causes all of the wars we fight.
  8. My sweet old girl Bela making the most of a cold and rainy afternoon.
  9. Hey that was a great movie. Also you DO know the Democrats were the ones wearing gray and the Republicans were wearing blue right? Edit: Midway, Tora Tora Tora, and Gettysburg are the most historically accurate war movies I have ever seen. If there is anything wrong with any of them it is a problems of omission rather than dramatic license. The only thing I really disliked about Gettysburg is they focused almost exclusively on Buford and Reynolds vs Heth on Day 1 and Longstreet and II Corps vs Han****. On Day 2 & 3. Ewell's failure to seize Culp's Hill on the 1st day was crucial and it was barely mentioned. Just one scene. On the second day Ewell & Pedeigre attacked Sloculm & Howard on Cemetary Ridge. The 11th & 12th Corps were under-strength and outnumbered by Ewell but their defense of the Union right flank was almost as epic as thr 2nd Maine on Little Round Top. It didn't make the movie at all.
  10. Taft. Ike was OK. Like Gromnir said almost all of them have positives and negatives. Who was the last good Democrat? Truman? JFK? Or Jackson? Plenty of positives and negatives for all of them. I'll tell you one thing though. Wilson was the worst President in US history bar none. I know Polk, Buchannan, and Harding are usually singled out for that honor. I expect Trump will join their ranks someday. But none of them has damaged the nation and the world so much as Woodrow f-----g Wilson. God damn the day Teddy Roosevelt decided to run for a third term. But for that Taft would have been re-elected, WWI ends differently. WWII might not happen at all or at least is very different. Mexico likely develops much quicker. And the beginning of the age of the "imperial presidency" in the US gets kicked down the road a ways. F--k Woodrow Wilson.
  11. I have done this!
  12. Edit: Never mind. Too late at night for snark and no one is convincing anyone of anything anyway.
  13. Breaking news: The government has not been completely truthful about UFO/UAP. Details at 11 https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/the-real-reasons-the-us-government-is-so-secretive-about-ufos Well, I for one welcome our new insect overlords....
  14. I hope you are correct Grom. I hope pessimism has gotten the better of me. Well, before Spring Training starts we'll know.
  15. You guys are making it sound like the Republicans in the Senate, and House for that matter, don't know or believe if Trump did something wrong. That is a false premise. Of course they do. They are not stupid. The pro-trump voter base may or may not know. Or does not believe. The anti-Trump voters won't care if he did anything wrong or not. They are out there shouting "hooray for our tribe". But the Congress. Of course they know and of course they know it's wrong. It. Does, Not. Matter. Don't bring up Nixon. Different times, different people. They all knew Clinton perjured himself. It. Did. Not. Matter. A Senate of the Party of the President is not going to remove that President. The political party does not matter. If Trump were a Democrat and the Dems held the House and everything else was the same the impeachment would not have happened. If the House was Republican, Senate Democrat, Trump a Democrat and all else the same he would not be removed. It. Does. Not. Matter what he did. In a relatively short time this is all going to be over and nothing will be any different for having gone through it. The Senate will acquit. Trump will crow about how it was all a witch hunt and how he was exonerated. The Senate Republicans will make the media rounds and with a straight face defend Trump and their acquittal. In six months the fact that he actually did everything he was accused of doing will be forgotten. And don't get mad at the Republicans because that is just how things are. If all the parties are reversed it ends the same way. THAT is why they really should consider Censure. Because if they do that then it will not be forgotten. He did this. Period. That is how history will remember it. Plus it gives them fodder for debates and campaign ads and there is nothing he can do about it. Yes, he won't be removed from office but he's not going to be anyway. This is just how s--t is now.
  16. Very bored at home. I started planning next year's vacation. I was thinking of spending 10 days or so camping and fishing at Marsh Island and Shell Keys NWR in Louisiana. I don't think I can leave home that long. Sunny & Bela are easy, I go, they go. But I can't bring six chickens. The girl that used to house-sit for me is in college in Virginia now so that's out. Oh well.
  17. Makes sense to me. That is also a reason to consider Censure. If they Senate is not going to remove him no matter what he did then take the justice you know you can have, There is no rebuttal and no defense against it. "You did this. Shame on you". It's not perfect but it is not nothing and nothing is what we are going to end up with.
  18. Wonder if we'll ever find our way back there again.
  19. Congrats TN & Mrs. TN. Welcome to the world Brendan!

  21. I got up, made coffee, built a fire in the fireplace and turned on the radio. I have exceeded all my expectations for today!
