  1. I heard a good one yesterday. "Choosing Biden over Trump is like s-----g your pants then changing your shirt"
  2. They kind of have to. There are things that are illegal for military that are only illegal for military. Things that have no civilian equivalent.
  3. This is a very interesting take on why military members seldom "look the other way" on bad acts but police sometimes do. I can tell you from my own experience personal integrity and respect for the Marine Corps, your unit, and the chain of command being paramount to every thing else, even faith with your fellow Marines is drilled into you starting in boot camp. Why the US Military Usually Punishes Misconduct but Police Often Close Ranks
  4. Embarasses you every time!
  5. A witten forum post is like a rifle shot. Aimed. Considered. Directed at a specific target. that target may be sarcasm, it may be intellectual provocation. Some of us are better shots than others. some could not hit the broadside of a barn. Even the most talented marksmen sometimes miss. But it's easy to judge what the shooter was aiming for and whether they hit the target A meme is like a grenade. Loud, blunt, unsophisticated and may not always hit the target and sometimes even does collateral damage. They often make a point but do it in a way that does not bear up to close analysis. Some are duds some are not and few are made by the people who post them. You would concede I'm sure, there are MANY non-violent drug offenders serving longer sentences that others who actually hurt or even killed people? If so then the grenade was at least thrown through the correct window.
  6. Too funny not to share: If you ever get tired of voting for the lesser evil allow me to remind you there are names on your ballot other than Donald Trump and Joe Biden
  7. The US justice system in one meme
  8. I don't even know what tik tok is
  9. I dunno. It's perfectly reasonable to be anti-democrat no matter how f----d the Republican candidate is. And vice versa. Of course if you were voting purely for Not Democrat or Not Republican I can't imagine you'd feel compelled to loyally defend your alternative. As you already know, for me a choice between a Democrat or a Republican is no choice at all.
  10. You've never had Fosters green can?
  11. John Lewis's funeral yesterday morphed from a memorial service for a good man into a nauseating political soapbox from which Obama looked down his nose at us once more and "shamed" us for being so terrible. It took less than a minute for me to remember why I disliked that man so much. Calling for the end of the filibuster is a great way to get the "tyranny of the majority". You want to break up the US? That is an excellent first step. Of course I think it's coming anyway and we should just get on with it. But that's me. Yesterday's little show was hardly the first. Or worst. Remember this disgusting little exhibition at the "funeral" for Paul Wellstone? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQMVVUtd_Yw
  12. Why Trump Might Quit Three different news sources have run a story in recent weeks about the possibility of Trump withdrawing from the election. James Carville has also predicted it. Hard to imagine it happening but Trump is certainly known for intemperance and erratic behavior. Assume for a moment it happens. Who would be the Republican nominee? Pence? Not sure he even wants the job. He would be a considerable upgrade but he was retiring from politics when he was picked. That would be a real mess wouldn't it?
  13. What Trump needs is someone to suggest the elections be suspended and he be given emergency powers until after the crisis has passed. But, who would do this?
  14. I didn't know Yaz's grandson played for the Giants. He hit two dingers last night. Nice!
  15. Rothfuss & Martin are both a victim of their own success. When they were lean and hungry, the books as good as they were still undiscovered they were writing their story for themselves. Once they became wildly successful the pressure to produce and continue to produce at a high level is intense. Martin especially is his own biggest critic. Only now they have earned enough money they don't NEED to sit down at their laptops and face that kind of pressure. GRRM has involved himself in more projects than any one man can accomplish in a lifetime. Procrastination by hard work if such a thing is real. It would have been better for all involved if they had not been "discovered" until the last book was finished. The ideal job would be a guy like Terry Goodkind. Rapidly churning out bucketfuls of warm vanilla mush. Just good enough to be enjoyable to the unsophisticated reader. No one is every buying move rights (except maybe SyFy) so there is never any pressure. No one work will ever make you rich but in the aggregate those buckets of warm vanilla mush sell enough you have some money
  16. Kingkiller Chronicle' Editor Believes Author Hasn't Written Anything for Years I think this might be right. He's made enough money to do what he pleases and now is blowing off the third book. I know I've given up on this one
  17. I thought this was satire.... it wasn't. America should allow other countries to vote in the 2020 election Somehow that made it even funnier!
  18. The Marlins have suspended their season. 18 players and staff have it now. What a dumpster fire.
  19. After a tremendous start, taking 2 of 3 from the Phillies in Philadelphia and coming back each time to do it the fish have been beached. 14 players have COVID-19. This SUCKS. Last night's game was cancelled. Ugh
  20. https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/28/politics/neil-gorsuch-supreme-court-lgbtq-civil-rights-act-alito/index.html @Gromnir am I wrong here or have the constructionists been more than a little activist this term? Particularly Alito & Thomas?
  21. Jo Jorgensen has had an Aleppo moment. Not as bad because after last time they realized Gary Johnson hurt Hillary Clinton as much a Trump. So Jorgensen is not getting invited to do national interviews, news network shows, etc. So it was only a local newspaper that caught this gaff. She was giving a speech on the LP positions on organized labor and apparently had no clue what "right to work" laws were. It was obscure enough I can't even find the link again.
  22. A Bernie Sanders campaign co-chair says choosing between Trump and Biden is like having 'a bowl of s--- in front of you, and all you've got to do is eat half of it' Couldn't agree more. So why is it so hard for people you realize you don't HAVE to eat a half a bowl of s--t? There are other things on the menu. Maybe not much more appetizing... but certainly not a bowl of s--t. The Red Rats and the Blue Rats are going to keep giving us terrible candidates until we stop voting for them.
  23. It's completely logical to hold in low respect the entire profession of policing and still hold individual police officers in high esteem. You yourself have pointed out a number of institutional flaws, training being foremost, in police departments. Even as jaded as I am I still believe the majority of police officers are decent people trying to do a good job. But, while only one man killed George Floyd, three others stood by and watched him do it and said not a word. IMO that is the institutions 2nd largest flaw. They value the careers of other cops over the integrity of the institution. That's why I have said police have only themselves to blame for the anger and distrust they are now facing. The other point of me posting this video is to provide a eyewitness account of what BLM actually is. And it is not what it started as. It has been co-opted. Mr. Jackson in the video described confronting a violent BLM mob whose members were mostly white hurling racist epithets at black cops.
