  1. ...I've read the article. Then I ctrl+f-d it for mentions of "vavra", just in case I missed something. It literally makes no mention of the gentleman in question. What "treatment" are we actually talking about? Vavra is the creator and producer of the game in question. He was essentially black-listed for coverage until late last year after telling people on twitter that they are wrong about thinking that black people existing in Bohemia in the 11th century. I'm trying my damnedest to phrase this in a manner that doesn't sound hostile and/or overly flippant, but maybe in the future you could consider... erm... linking to sources that actually have a bearing on the point you're trying to make? Anyway, to be more constructive, do you have any proof of this blacklisting? You do not need to cordial with me if you find my arguments frustrating, or just do not like me in general. If it helps your senses, i can tell you that i am an adult man and can take insults pretty well and not some teenage girl that will threaten with suicide for making me ungoodfeel. False niceness is ugly compared to pure passion and desire after all. But i think i made my point pretty clear, the article showed that we was attacked (questioned in lol-speak) for making the game he wanted to make. As for the blacklisting, check the dates of the kickstarter updates in July compared to the amount of coverage until then. Then do the same for the rest of the year. Also check the dates of the updates and when they were posted in the media.
  2. I rather have game journalists reviewing games than giving them critique. Modern art (and its subequent critics) is so horrendously bland, pretentious and just generally **** to begin with, that you have swim through a sea of **** to find something not insulting to your senses. First of all I think you're wrongly generalizing modern art. Just try to be open and go to a modern art museum and just let it affect you. There are lots of ways of interpreting and appreciating art. Also, art criticism is not only "modern art" as in paintings and sculptures, it's also literary criticism. I feel as if there's a big anti-intellectual (as in humane sciences) movement at the moment, which I find saddening. If there are people who can appreciate these writings, why don't you let them? You don't have to read it, you don't have to react to it. People are free in the ways they are reviewing and critiquing stuff. I like this direction and I feel as if it gives games a bit more weight as a cultural artifact, much like film, literature or theatre. I spent my youth travelling to places like Amsterdam, Florence, Venice and so on and saw the paintings and sculptures by the very best (my parents are a bit of art lovers themselves); Rembrandt, Caravaggio, you name it. So perhaps i have to blame myself that i have the naive picture of that art is and how it touches your very soul. Modern art is often lazy, not really profound and pretentious compared to the greats. But i wouldn't say ugly aestethically, but rather in essence: no truth, just a mishmash of emotions without direction, except for decadence and egotism. The only modern artist that i can respect is Picasso and Dali.

  5. [citation needed] Edit: I mean, his problem was that the evil, evil feminists were "hiding the research away because it didn't fit the narrative". You can't simultaneously do that and "treat it as a framework for how gaming identity should be treated"! It's either one or the other. You mean, all the horrible, horrible forced diversity like... urm... what exactly? I literally can't recall any high-profile games with "forced diversity" in them. Then again, it's not like I follow high-profile gaming too closely, so I'm honestly curious. Check the video again, the Dan Golding's article is referenced in several of the "Gamers are dead" articles. For forced diversity, check David Vavra's treatment of not including minorities in his game Kingdom Come:Deliverence: https://archive.today/KWpAH
  6. ...Is this the same Sargon of Akkad who managed to simultaneously fail at statistics and interpreting basic research in his "why gamers don't need diversity" video, or some different clown? I haven't seen the video, why does he fail? He basically takes a research paper with a sample size of 27 (that would give you a confidence level of around 40, by the way, which, I note, is below the odds of a coin toss) with very specific questions about identification with characters in games, and treats it as ultimate, objective proof that the feminists are lying and gamers really don't need diverse characters, because they can identify with their on-screen avatar just fine. (Simultaneously proving that he also doesn't understand why feminists think games need more diverse characters, but that's beside the point.) Edit: oh, then he also charmingly accuses the person who made this paper with "trying to downplay this finding because it doesn't fit the narrative". Even if he is wrong on his conclusions, the whole gaming journalist- and the industry in general, treat the paper as a framework for how gaming "identity" should be treated. Games shouldn't be something, they just are IMO. Therefore, all this forced diversity is just another form of authoritarian social engineering. I spit on such juvenile scorn.
  7. Sceptical at this point. This guy hasn't been the best manager of his previous projects. On the other hand, i gladly welcome an alternative to IGDA. There is also of course the possibility of it being equally corrupt as IGDA within 10 years and we're back to square one. The ride never ends.
  8. Don't worry about Chris, he's mostly occupied being Milo's punching bag. //Edit: CameraLady has some sorts of speech impendiment IIRC and therefore mr. Otaku voices her videos.
  9. Kuchera's already got the same kind of safe place in Polygon, no ? I do not know for sure. But considering his persona, i wouldn't be surprised if he ends up rage-quitting one day. More about corruption:
  10. Anything else about Source 2.......HL³?
  11. Leigh Alexander leaves Gamasutra to start her own site. https://archive.today/S6zO2 Ben Kuchera, take notes.
  12. I do not see it as hate speech, since i find the term stupid to begin with. I see it more as using the same lingo back at Tim.
  13. The friction seems to extend to devs now: https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/2y0loa/drama_veteran_aaa_dev_denounces_tim_schafer/
  14. Shameful in the wider societal sense, or in a personal morality sense? Humor me please and answer me in both senses.
  15. Agency is the difference between "sexy" and "objectifying". And "objectifying" in this context is not a shameful act?
  16. I never said that. Actually, never even alluded to it in any way, shape or form. What was that earlier comment about mental gymnastics? If the difference is not shame, then what is the difference? ...People having the agency to decide whether they enjoy being an object of desire versus objects of desire existing for the sole reason of being exactly that, and nothing more? So what if there is an agency or not. Either something is sexy or it is not. Agency in sexiness bears no meaning whether it is a painting, a moviereel, pixels or the real thing.
  17. I never said that. Actually, never even alluded to it in any way, shape or form. What was that earlier comment about mental gymnastics? If the difference is not shame, then what is the difference?
  18. So, men should be ashamed for their fantasies about sexy women, but women should be celebrated for being the sexy fantasy? Get the **** outta here

  20. A qualified majority is required for the Council of the European Union for approval. So even if the Commission makes a proposal that is passed by the majority of the European Parliament, it can still be shot down by the Council. 21. I eagerly await the journalists attacking/boycotting nVidia. Fun times ahead.
  22. Have you been hitting the acid again mate? Nah, just me.
  23. Don't mind Baroth, he dancing with the devil of cynisism and currently the dance is too enticing in order to see the beauty of the smallest of victories.
  24. Open trade and diplomatic relations with Iran instead. The future is bright with a youth that is highly secular and down-right anti-islamic. Many are embracing their Persian heritage and some even convert to Zoroastrianism. Also bear in mind that even if it is an Islamic country, they are predominantly Shia, which makes them an outsider compared to all the other middle eastern countries. Align with them, and the Israeli lobby slightly loses power and most importantly, the land of terrorism, Saudi-Arabia loses some as well. With this new alliegence, there is of course the difficulty of what to do ISIS, but it's Iran's interest to defeat them as much as the Syrian government. Make way for the possible dissolution of Iraq for the Kurdish nation in the north Sunni-Iraq in the middle the Peoples Republic of Shia-Iraq in the south after ISIS is finally defeated. Iran will ofcourse have more influence in P.R.S.I., but it will be a good leverage against the Saudi in the south. Turkey of course will hate it, but what are they gonna do as NATO member? Align with Russia? Hahaha. With the new indirect influence over Hezbollah thanks to better diplomatic connections, there is also more hope of permanent peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Thanks to having dimished the power and influence of all in favour of a slightly stronger Iran will leave no one with any bigger advantage. Without this power, a peace conference will be possible and permanent lines drawn in the sand in the holy land. Obama is so stupid, elect me as God-Emporor and I will do this within a year.
