Is it normal to get attacked by any other ship in the beginning?

So i have no reputation / beef with the valiant trading company...but they attack me as soon as they see me

 

is that normal?

does it have to do with the colors im flying on my ship?

The two major trade faction act like East Indian trade companies at times, engaging in privateering if they think they can get away with it.

Change your flag or build up reputation to avoid getting attacked.

 

You will be hunting all of them anyway because all the named ships that attack you when you're not looking are bounty ships.

Depends on your flag.  If you use the Obsidian Order flag be aware this means you are flagged as belonging to the Huana faction, so slavers and principi will be on you like white on rice.  Same is basically true with the Watcher Flag, at least until you build up your reputations.
