When can I ask for steam code if...

I would reckon once the game is released. As of yet there is no official release date however.

We will be getting the GoG and Stean codes after a couple weeks release, as like the first game. Understandable since the launch is gonna be crazy hectic/busy.

They gave the Pillars 1 keys on release eve or something, I'm pretty sure I preloaded the game before release, we'd have rioted here if it was 2 weeks after release, wtf:

Quillon is correct. With POE1 the backer Steam keys were gradually made available in the 2-3 days before release, with a few exceptions where something went wrong for someone.

Josh Sawyer did give a personal goal (or speculation) many months ago of March 2018, but otherwise, there isn't an official release date. I'd take that as a tentative date since it's not like he promised the community or swore in blood or anything.

 

It definetly appears to be on track for a late first quarter release though.

 

And yeah, having the steam keys released for backers a few weeks after release makes absolutely no sense.

The keys are useless anyway, as long as the game isn't out, so... And yes, of course the keys were made available in time to start playing right away.
