Stormhammer117 Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 So far I am enjoying this Brute build, but I had a question about the Devoted penalty: The description says that I can only be proficient in one weapon, and gain no other profs from leveling up. However, in-game this is not true. Do I get the Devoted bonuses to ALL my proficient weapons, or only the first proficiency I pick during character creation? Character creation also lets me pick 2 profs even though the subclass says I only get one. Is this something that is going to change in a later patch, or is something up? Also, just as a side note on the Devoted subclass, I don't think ONE weapon prof for the whole game is a good idea, maybe when you are near max level you should be able to pick up a second one. The different armor/damage types almost guarantee that no matter what weapon you pick, you will need to switch damage types at some point.
JerekKruger Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 As far as I could tell, you only get the devoted bonus to one of your proficient weapons. It wasn't clear to me how this was decided (first one picked, first in the list, other). I assume it's a bug that you get to pick more than one.
Stormhammer117 Posted December 4, 2017 Author Posted December 4, 2017 So how do I decide which weapon counts as my Devoted weapon?
KDubya Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 When the bug gets fixed you'll only have one weapon that you will be proficient with, so choose wisely. Something with two damage types is probably going to be a good idea. I'm curious as to what will happen with Devoted and the new general abilities that will be added to the proficiency choices. Will they get just as many picks as everyone else but be restricted to one weapon and then take seven or eight extra abilities instead? Having lots of free picks at weapon styles could let you have dual wield, weapon and shield and one handed with arms bearer. You could then have swords set up as a single weapon, a dual wield and a sword and board to allow you to adjust to different requirements, all without wasting your ability picks.

Another flaw with the proposed change to the proficiencies system in my opinion.
AndreaColombo Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Agreed. If you let everyone pick talents except Devoted, you shaft the subclass gratuitously; if you let them pick talents (as is currently planned according to Josh’s SA posts), you’ve given it a gratuitous boost. Arranvin Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Is the example given definitely a bug? Given that this is a multi-classed character might it not be the case that having a second class allows the character to bypass the limitation of only being proficient with one weapon? Note that I'm not arguing in favour of this being the case as it's probably too powerful, and essentially means that a Devoted multiclass has no downside, but I'm curious about how the subclass bonus and penalty is intended to interact with a second class and that classes' proficiencies.
Aramintai Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 (edited) Sorry to burst your bubbles, guys, about devoted getting multiple proficiencies but I've reported it and it was confirmed as a bug: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/94962-devoted-fighter-can-choose-more-than-1-weapon-proficiency/ If multiclassing is indeed similar to to BG2 2ed AD&D you don't get bonuses from another class if they contradict with penalties from another class. Hopefully devs'll fix it properly and devoted will still be able to pick general talents other than proficiencies. Edited December 4, 2017 by Aramintai
