Thoughts on the E3 Footage

Recommended Posts

"1. Moving the action choices from above the character to the bottom of the screen. Definitely an annoyance in KOTOR in that the overhead display would often block opponents or cinematic elements of the game."

So, is this in the X-box version only or has the combat interface been moved for the PC version as well? Please!

Maybe it could be added as an option... I really don't know at this point. The PC interface has yet to under go significant revisions. We've been busy getting the X-Box interfaces ready for E3.

Thanks for the reply, don't forget to push for this option at your next group meeting!!

Honestly this is one of the few things that really bugged me in KOTOR.

I also think she moved faster then the character could in KotOR 1.  I'm hoping knight speed etc. will really be fast now.

Maybe she was using Knight Speed? Just a thought, I haven't seen all the footage.

Well i just saw it, and here's my verdict:

The Good:

- The cloak animation was nice.

- The character animations seemed a bit more slick.

- The fps was steady at most of times.

- It had the KotOR feel to it (yay!).

The Bad:

- The level itself was very generic (Telos mines IIRC), almost like the Sith military base on Taris.

- The some of the droids just looked plain awful.

- The A.I. is still lacking (walking on mines, etc.).

"I dream things that never were and say why not?"

I agree, all of those things will be fixed before the game is released a long long time from now. The graphics and lighting are usually cleaned up a few months before the game is released because it's easy to do. Since the game is using the same game engine from the first game, it will not take nearly as long to come out as the first game. Its going to be a similar situation to the Ocarina of time and Majoras mask. The Ocarina of time took about 3 years to finally be released as with KOTOR. However since Majoras mask used the same game engine with just a few new minor animations and lighting, it only took about a year. If I remember correctly Ocarina of Time was released around 98....99 and Majoras mask came out 00. The Sith Lords cant be any worse then KOTOR (which was a great game) and it might even be a little bit better in terms of lighting and graphics.

I haven't watched alot of the videos (and probably am not going to) so I'm not quite sure what you mean by

- The A.I. is still lacking (walking on mines, etc.).
but I think it might be fairly difficult to stop NPCs walking over mines (or get them to go around them reliably, I guess that includes other NPCs as well) but hopefully they'll improve pathfinding in general.

I like what animitions have been shown so far except the one that can be seen on a video with Yahoo! watermark on it, the move looks like the PC (wearing blue/chrome Mandalorian armour I think) is doing a really fast flip and a half with a few white particles appearing around him, that just looked a bit over the top IMO.

Here we go, this was the thread Gameplay Trailer, nothing to write home about, but.... and here's the clip.

What I meant by over the top was the whole body flipping and spinning around like little tornado, just didn't seem smooth or plausable I guess, I mean, if you look at say Oni's or perhaps Jedi Outcast's (and the Star Wars movies) animation for example they might look super human/expert or a little crazy but plausable, taking a little time to recover and gathering momentum to get to those crazy speed spins and kicks.

Perhaps it's just because he standing there one second and then like a spinning top the next then back again, not really any recovery time and what not.

I spent the last three days trying to get the movie and no luck.

"For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed; and in return we hope that you, instead of thinking to influence us by saying that you did not join the Lacedaemonians, although their colonists, or that you have done us no wrong, will aim at what is feasible, holding in view the real sentiments of us both; since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."
