Blades of Vanatar Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 There has been a Party concept I have been wanting to try for awhile now. It's totally evil... My Watcher will be a Human Bleak Walker. He will be 'manipulated' by a Death Godlike Wizard who specializes in mind control and necrotic/corrode damages. Her cohorts are a pair of Rogues. One a Ruffian damage specialist, the other a Noble Crit specialist. Both melee. The Party is filled out by a dualled Battle Axe Barb and a Two hand Sword Fighter. I'm torn between making my Watcher a Dualled DPS beast or a Party buffer/healer since I have no Priest/ Druid/Chanter. I would like to try a Blunderboss's Bleak Walker type build, maybe going Flail instead of Sabre as one of my Rogues will be using Bittercut/Azurith's Stilletto combo. Is it viable to do a PotD run with no healer whatsoever? No matter which fork in the road you take I am certain adventure awaits.
Boeroer Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) Sure it is. But a paladin is a healer. And one of the best. Besides that - Veteran's Recovery/Constant Recovery help a lot, too. Concelhaut's Siphon is also good healing, but only for the wizard. Barbs have Savage Defiance, which I would always recommend. It's superstrong at the beginning and still good later on. Blunderbuss is actually not a good choice for a paladin because of the way lashes work. The multiple pellets with low damage lead to multiple lashed with low damage that all have to overcome burn DR. So, it's only good against soft targets with lowish DR. Pen. Shot and so on don't work with the lashes, only with the direct pellet hits. Because of that, it's better to use an arquebus, Firebrand or dual weapons like Resolution + Purgatory. Sworn Enemy + FoD will give you +35 ACC which often leads to a crit with FoD - so annihilating can be good. Most of the tie I find an Island Aumua with Arms Bearer, Coil of Resourcefulness, three arquebuses and war hammer is nice. I also always use the Outworn Buckler. 2 FoD Shots with burning lash, Intense Flames, Remember Rhakan Field and Scion of Flame and 1 Runner's Wounding shot (the +80% also work with the lash damage of the weapon) do a lot of burst damage. Then I switch to support/tank mode with the buckler. If you want to have high MIG and INT you should also think about Envenomed Strike to help with more dps. It's totally independent from weapons' damage. Only ACC, MIG and INT count. Edited November 9, 2016 by Boeroer 1 Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Blades of Vanatar Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 Sorry Boeroer, I was referring to Blunderboss's build from the builds section. It's a dual wield pally monster. Not the weapon that it similarly spelled.... 1 No matter which fork in the road you take I am certain adventure awaits.
Boeroer Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 ROFL! Now I see. I thought it was just a typo... Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Blades of Vanatar Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 Well I was thinking of taking all offensive abilities with my Bleak Walker. That is why I am asking about a 'no healer' viability. My BW as created. Human Meadow Folk Bleak Walker M 17 C 10 D 10 P 13 I 18 R 10 I'm not a big fan of dumping stats. Currently level 4. So far I have taken Zealous Aura that upgrades ACC and Crits, Rem Rakhan Field, Two Weapon Style, Upgrade to Aura for even more crits. Figured this will really help my Rogues deliver the pain to the do-gooders. No matter which fork in the road you take I am certain adventure awaits.
dgray62 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I always like giving my Bleak Walker paladin the Black Path. With high intelligence, you'll Frighten a wide range of enemies, lowering their accuracy, attack speed, deflection, will and concentration, making them easier to hit and kill. This might be more useful than Critical Focus; the 5% hit to crit boost seems rather weak for a talent.

My Barb will be doing all the yelling and shouting I need for pant wetting the enemy. No matter which fork in the road you take I am certain adventure awaits.
