BruceVC
http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/ It started yesterday, we love our Rugby in South Africa..well most of us do Anyone planning on watching? South Africa is in a good pool....I predict us and the USA will get through http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/pools "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. ShadySands
I enjoy watching it sometimes but I still don't understand all the rules. I've tried to watch it with a few folks I know who are into it but they just bash American football most of the time so it's not enjoyable. Anyway, I'll try to catch it 1 Free games updated 3/4/
Guard Dog
Wow did the All Blacks make out or what? They got the easiest pool of them all. I think 15 guys of this board could make it out of Pool C. Pool A will be the hardest to advance from I'd think. After spending so much time watching Rugby Sevens it's odd to see a full team out there. 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Guard Dog
England has already beaten Fiji 35-11. The US has Samoa on Sunday. I'll be watching. Hey Bruce, on 10/7 the Boks are getting bopped! Go Eagles! After spending so much time watching Rugby Sevens it's odd to see a full team out there. I remember you had interest in Rugby seven, didn't you go support them in Vegas? And yes you will find the full Rugby games much more entertaining and intense. I'm glad you are going to watch them, you won't be disappointed And yes you right NZ, like South Africa, has a very good pool draw and will definitely get through. Also remember two teams from each pool get through Pool A is the hardest by far. Australia, England and Wales...I predict Wales and Australia "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. BruceVC
Oh wait I mustn't underestimate Scotland from our pool....then I'm confident that we will get through and then it will be between the Scotland and USA "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. He shrewdly wore is Team Canada polo shirt too. Guard Dog
South Africa has it's hands full with Japan right now. It was 10-12 at the half, now 29-29. If Japan pulls this off it will be a HUGE upset. If Japan pulls this off it will be a HUGE upset. Oh yeah.,....do I know it.... " a huge upset " is an understatement What a TERRIBLE game for us but well done to Japan, they played really well. Less technical mistakes and a really good coach Some of my brothers are saying " how can we come back from this...losing to Japan in the first game " But we still get 2 points for scoring 4 tries and for being within 7 points of the winning team So I have to believe we can come back from this, its not like we can get any worse at the moment "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. HoonDing
Losing to Japan in rugby? Did they send a sumo wrestling team? The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Zoraptor
Nah, Ninjas. Fair few non Japanese sounding names in that team too, though getting beaten by Japan + NZ/Aus/RSA D team castoffs still isn't a good look.

BruceVC
I'm nursing a really bad hangover and I'm flying back to JHB....its 7:10 am and I'm at the airport I'm looking at this loss and trying to see the positive. This was undoubtedly the finest moment for Japanese rugby and I'm not going to undermine there achievement Yes countries like NZ and Australia must be laughing now and we deserve it... but as I said earlier I'm still very confident we will get through the Pool. We just mustn't get consumed with negativity...and yes the newspapers are going to be brutal...as we have come to expect "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Guard Dog
And Team USA drops it's first match to Samoa. Ugh. I caught the second half. It was uninspiring. Now I'm hoping everyone in the pool loses at least once. Guard Dog
I caught the New Zealand vs Argentina match. It was tighter than I thought with some bad penalties but the All Blacks turned it on in the 2nd half. Two things I noticed, 1) Nobody moves the ball the way the All Blacks do. It is a thing of beauty. 2) Those dudes are BIG. Argentina's players looked like kids against them. Zoraptor
I think it's the black uniform that makes them look big while lighter colours tend to make players look smaller, the ABs always look bigger than England but it's usually the reverse that is true. As for the game itself, we played pretty poorly a lot of the time with some silly mistakes and McCaw in particular was an utter moron. At least we played poorly and won, unlike South Africa and the first match against Australia earlier this year but they'll have to do better in the knock out stages. BruceVC
So South Africa beat Samoa 46-6 ...we played exactly how we should have played against Japan last week This past week has been particularly mentally draining and melancholic as almost everyone I know has been saying how the loss against Japan represents the state of the country and how we are beset by so many insurmountable social problems " whats the point in staying in South Africa " ...yes hyperbole was rife. It reminded me again how human beings can become so fixated on something like sport, that really just represents entertainment and for some a sense of pride, and then start associating things with it that are not relevant Anyway great game and we are back as contenders for a World Cup victory...I'm off to celebrate and drink up a storm "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Zoraptor
LolEnglandWinsLoses. I just knew Wales were going to score as soon as the commentator started talking about how they were so disorganised and lacked penetration, happens every time. And thanks to daylight savings I tuned in just in time to see most of the Welsh team being scraped off the pitch with a spatula. The two matches against Australia now look even more crucial than before, guess the tickets have been sold already but the hosts going out in pool play would still be a big deal for the tournament. They might have to do a cricket and make it impossible for India England to get knocked out early in future.
Guard Dog
Today we need to beat Scotland for the first time ever I think. If the Eagles lose today the odds of advancement become long indeed. Guard Dog
Total disappointment. Well, if Team USA can beat South Africa next week that will be something. We can't get skunked here! Guard Dog
Well Team USAs London vacation will end after they lie down in front of Japan in an hour. I call it vacation because they didn't bother playing any Rugby while they were there. Three matches, three defeats and except for the fist half against Scotland they were big defeats. I head they even lost an exhibition match against the team from the East London School For Underachieving Pre-Teen Girls. But... whatever. So before these guys board a plane and return to whatever jobs they do in real life (for most of them I suspect that involves hamburgers) I hope they stop buy a gift shop and pick up some souvenirs because that will be the only evidence they were ever there. Zoraptor
That's a bit harsh, whatever the result you'll still be Olympic Rugby Champions and likely to be the longest reigning Olympic champions of all time. Ireland beating France sets up a bit of a giggle; 2007 ABs v France in Cardiff where we lost and now we get ABs v France in Cardiff for another quarter final. I'm going to laugh if we lose again the same way, the butthurt last time was monumental.
