Brimsurfer Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Hi guys, long time IE games veteran here..........my question is should i go for Expert Mode in my first play through? Or is there high likelihood that it may destroy my game experience? Also I wanted to find out how well Expert Mode is implemented, does it worth it to play it? I am very much interested in hearing everyone's experience with expert mode, please don't be shy to share......... Thanks a bunch 1
Dynellen Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Expert mode on first playthrough may be quite annoying. You can't see spell AoE size and the variety between spells is massive and then you have int further modifying it so you'll really be guessing at where your spells will actually land.
Katarack21 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I'd just like to disable all the helper stuff *except* the reputation dialogue indicators and the AoE boxes. Is that doable in the game options?
Klice Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Probably, yes. There are a lot of options to check, surely you can find what you want in it, I'll check later.
Gairnulf Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I'm playing on Hard/Expert right now, not feeling I miss anything important in terms of helpers. A Custom Editor for Deadfire's Data:
Darkpriest Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I'd just like to disable all the helper stuff *except* the reputation dialogue indicators and the AoE boxes. Is that doable in the game options? yes, it's doable, I picked expert mode for my first play and aiming of the spells is kind of ugh.... I guess I got spoiled by later games like NWN, but for some reason I can't well estiamte when my group will be hit by the edge of my 120 degree cone and when it won't, etc. I feel that I should have picked normal mode with everthing ticked off except AoE of spells, but there is quite a few options there
Katarack21 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 True facts. I want the AoE spells because I've never yet met a game where the edges are definite enough not to screw me up, and I want the reputation dialogue help because tone can be hard to do in text properly.
Brimsurfer Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 I'm playing on Hard/Expert right now, not feeling I miss anything important in terms of helpers. Yea I will play on hard as well because I suspect normal would be too easy for me, its just the expert mode that I am a not sure about, that is if I should use it on first play through.
Mungri Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 (edited) Im playing my first game on Hard / Expert too, and nothing is missing that I need. AoE markers and dialogue help are for noobs. Edited March 27, 2015 by Mungri
Aarionn Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I think Expert mode is only usable if you use it for first playthroughs. Otherwise why use it later when you already know everything from previous playthrough... I will never play this game without expert mode. I need it to stay mysterious for me for a long time in order to have replayability. Lake Baldur's Gate... I went through BG so many times and I still get surprised with something I didn't discovered before. 1
teknoman2 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 i play on expert too. besides the aoe indicators im pretty much fine with it. and the lack of [stats] in dialogue is the best part for me. i can roleplay without distractions 1 The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder. -Teknoman2- What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past? Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born! We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did. Modern democracy is: the sheep voting for which dog will be the shepherd's right hand.
Brimsurfer Posted March 31, 2015 Author Posted March 31, 2015 I realised that expert mode doesn't really add to the difficulty, except that it disables only the tutorial tips and a little bit of stuff that actually explains or help us understand how the game works. It doesn't make combat and enemies more challenging instead it just takes the guidance away that helps us understand how the game works.
