Gfted1 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Good catch! I was staring at that box so hard I didn't even see the hand was underneath it. 3 "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
BigBripa Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 The video is excellently done. There's only one thing that bothers me. It's weird that two civilizations (Aedyr, Old Valia) would have roughly similar technology and converge on a place between the two of them that is far behind and relatively isolated technologically. You think the forces of cultural diffusion would have either passed through the area along the hemispheres or the two would hardly communicate, especially since deep sea travel is so difficult... My impression was that the continent was supposed to be roughly analogous to North America, with a far afield "civilized" world discovering it's existence at roughly the same time and the most developed trying to become the dominant colonial power. 2

It's pretty much this. If you have played much EUIV it's clear that many countries developed colonial technology at about the same time and were fiercely competing for space. Now, it doesn't seem like Valia and Aedyr had to fight over The Eastern Reach, but if the Valian empire didn't collapse things probably would have been different. 1
anameforobsidian Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) [Edit: I (and white phoenix) misread Old Valia as south east of the Eastern reach when its actually southwest.] I would really like to see a rough continent map, even though that might tie their hands a little with sequels. It seems like the Eastern Reach is far away from where most of the culture in the world is happening. Edited February 19, 2015 by anameforobsidian
White Phoenix Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Why Old Vailia is southwest? Wiki says that Vailian Republics are southwest from Vailia, unless I misunderstand something.
anameforobsidian Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 "The once crown jewel of the southern seas, is the crumbling island nations of Old Vailia sit thousands of miles to the southwest of their offshoot, the Vailian Republics(a colonization effort that took place few centuries before)." - JE Sawyer. Old Valia is southwest from Valian Republics. The Valian Republics are North East of Old Valia. The language is a bit confusing. On a separate note, that still means there's an issue with Ixamitl being known for its wisdom when its even further away from the rest of the world than the Eastern Reach. 1

Remember that it's been a couple hundred years since the two big Civs arrived, and not only that but the Glanfathans and White March Dwarves have been next to the Ixamitl for some time. That's plenty of time for news to spread about another culture, even if it's (probably) all glossed over hearsay. The game is set at the beginning of a time where the world is shrinking, where mysterious far off lands are getting less mysterious by the day. Edited February 19, 2015 by Havelok 1

Thank you. Ixamitl is known from long philosophy traditions and I am sure it is north (east) from Eastern Reach (and upon equator, because some orlans live there and the rest is in Dyrwood/Eir Glanfath or Aedyr), but Rauatai is more distant from E. Reach than Ixamitl. It must be not so far away because of Natlan people, who separated between Ixamitlan and Readceran nation (many years ago some groups of savannah folk went north probably from Readceras area to Ixamitl). And Ixamitl is the oldest culture after Engwithans, who are very, very old culture probably, then came Glanfathans and Old Vailia rised, later Aedyr Empire came to life. A reason for those cultures (Aedyran and Oldvailian) having not much contact with themselves is Vailian Empire collapse, when Eastern Reach just began its life as a colony, what let Aedyr Empire to be the only dominant power in that region.
