OE: Do you guys not have the resources to do a beta blog?

Recommended Posts

It would help us know what to bother reporting/reviewing in-depth if we had more frequent updates. Maybe I'm just used to Path of Exile's nearly-daily news posts, but as a beta tester it's...been a little while since we heard from you guys.

At the very least, the Known Issues post in the bug forum ought to see (nearly) daily updates. Copy and paste from reported bugs that you've logged. Easy-peasy.

As for non-bugfiix, feedback, we have no idea which systems you're reworking if any.

Thanks!

PS I'll understand if you simply don't have the time/staff to make this happen. (Though it would be pretty easy to post updates to the main Pillars page if you don't want to create a separate Blog section).  Just say as much, will ya?  :)

I think the correct way of communicating with Obsidian devs is through Twitter harassment.

There should be more communication. That might sound weird given the 80 + updates over the life of the project but the vast majority of those were very high level conceptual stuff. The first time we saw the actual game was the Giant Bomb EX very recently.

Now the beta is out but it's essentially unplayable because of the bugs and almost two weeks later and all we know is it might get updated 'later in the week' via Twitter. It's hard to know what issues are outstanding or have been addressed, which bugs they're aware of, what kind of reporting is more or less useful at this stage.

They've got an army of people more than happy to test the game but some direction and feedback is needed. Right now we're just squabbling over combat XP and attributes which may well be completely off the table as far as iterarion or revision and if we knew that we could focus on the things that aren't.

It doesn't matter if there are a few people who are being aggressive, just ignore them. There is plenty of good and constructive criticism on this board.

I didn't think I was being particularly aggressive. This is a plea for communication. And I'm not the only one who's growing impatient. Your white-knighting is misplaced.

Also, I've given this beta plenty of constructive criticism and bug reports, so please don't try to characterize me as some rabble-rouser.

Edit: My bad, you weren't directing this at me.

Wasn't talking about you, there are a few people from both side of the conflict/debate who are overly aggressive, bordering on trollish.

I'd be surprised if we ever get something as official as a beta blog.

What Obsidian could do though is hire some "producers" to watch the forums and communicate more frequently with the fans, inXile-style. (hi Brother None and sea!) These producers would have access to the game's latest builds and changelogs, and would be empowered to answer questions about the game's current state and direction at all times.

Obsidian hasn't had to do this up until now because they released Kickstarter updates quite frequently (more frequently than many other Kickstarter games), and Josh was usually around to talk about them. But it doesn't seem like that routine is going to continue now that they're crunching on the beta.

But I guess we'll see what happens after the beta is updated.

Sorry about that!! Wasn't sure who you were responding to.

And yes, the trolls...were these people bred in vats? Seriously, where do they come from?

They are mostly kids, it's pretty obvious when you start reading their post others just seem to be angry and are looking to argue and provoke reactions.
