Pontiac1979 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I'm not much of a computer expert, so I need your help. I've been playing Dungeon Siege 3 every night the last 6-7 months (judge me) and I've just now somehow found out about PoE. This isn't the best computer nor do I know if I'm posting everything that's needed, but: Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz Memory: 4096 MB RAM Chip type: Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family I have a feeling I'm leaving something out. Any help would be appreciated.
mstark Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Graphics card? If you can run Dungeon Siege 3, you should have no issues with running Pillars of Eternity. "What if a mid-life crisis is just getting halfway through the game and realising you put all your points into the wrong skill tree?"
mstark Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 It's still possible to draw plenty of conclusions based on the information that has been released so far. We know the approximate polygon count of 3D characters/monsters. We know the approximate number of PC's/NPC's that will be on screen at any given time. We know spells are fairly simple 3D animations. We know the backgrounds are all 2D images. We know Pathfinding is likely to be the heaviest CPU requirement. We know the approximate size of the maps that need to be loaded into memory. We know the game is of "average" disk space size compared to modern PC games. From this data, it's quite easy to say if a computer can, or can't, run the game. There might be a fairly large grey-area created due to bad optimization from devs/graphics card manufacturers, but this is outside of the PC owners' control and is likely to be patched following release. "What if a mid-life crisis is just getting halfway through the game and realising you put all your points into the wrong skill tree?"
Sensuki Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 If it can run Shadowrun Returns, you can probably run Pillars of Eternity too (hopefully).
JDizzle420 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Dude, the game is not even close to finish. Obsidian will post minimum requirements and recommended ones close to realease... Even though "close" is a subjective term, I'm going to have to disagree with you here. The game IS close to being finished IMO. We have a winter 2014 release date. That is at most 6 months from now. Given the amount of time they will probably be spending on just fixing bugs and polishing things up, I would think the game would pretty much be done within the next 4-5 months. That's not very far off. Either you didn't know when the game is supposed to be released, or you and I have a very different perception of time. Keep in mind that the game will be going into beta within the next 2-3 months. I'm sure that they will be able to guess at some minimum system requirements by then. They really should already have an idea of what those requirements are, but they just haven't posted them yet. The bottom line is that if OP's computer can run DS3 reasonably well he should have no problem running PoE. I'm very confident in that.
AwesomeOcelot Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Yes, we're going to have to wait until beta to get an accurate impression of the type of system needed, and that also assumes that the game will be optimised well by the time it is released. Since they did say they had it running on a Windows 8 tablet that does suggest that the GPU should not be a concern, but some of those tablets have a lot more powerful CPU than a E5700 which is in line in performance with the stated minimum specs for Dungeon Siege 3. It's not guaranteed that the minimum specs will be less or equal to Dungeon Siege 3's.
ManifestedISO Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Isn't that "4 Series Express" just onboard HD 4000. I'm not super-informed on Intel integrated graphics. Supposedly it's DX11 capable, but, you know ... iGP's. All Stop. On Screen.
AwesomeOcelot Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 It's from one generation before the HD Graphics came into play, It's DX10 not DX11, possibly because the chipset was released before DX11. it's integrated into the chipset not the CPU like HD Graphics, comes under the previous Intel brand GMA. I doubt they're using integrated graphics though, because any GPU from a chipset that supports that CPU is way way below minimum specs for Dungeon Siege 3, benchmarks show games with lower min specs than DS3 run at 18-20fps with the highest GPU from that range, that's at 800x600 with everything set to low.
tarasis Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I have the same question, given it looks see IE based I'd have hope it played okay but with fancier graphical bells and whistles I expect to have trouble. My specs 13" mid 2009 MacBook Pro Windows 7 Bootcamp 8GB Ram 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 512GB SSD NVidia 9400M 256mb Vram (1280x800 res) The video card/vram is a killer for pretty much anything modern. For instance something like The Witcher runs in the region of 1-2 FPS at the lowest detail settings. I played Dragon Age: Origins for roughly 60 hours at 8-10fps, I'm currently 45 hours into Divinity Original Sin in the same sort FPS region (5-10). My hope is to update my computer this year / early next year, but it keeps getting delayed.
Zwiebelchen Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Come on, the game has low poly models, the backgrounds are 2D, the visual effects so far also look pretty simple with just a few particles. What do you expect? This game will probably run fine even on a mobile phone.
Sensuki Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Yeah but performance is more dependent on engine optimization than anything else, really.

TCJ Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I'm wondering if PoE will run on Windows XP? I hope so! 1
