I was wondering—will Pillars of Eternity have volumetric effects for stuff like smoke, fog, fire, lighting, weather, etc.?

I know they tend to be quite exacting on the hardware, but with pre-rendered backdrops and (relatively) low-poly 3D models the game would probably more than make up for that. Besides, I guess they could be made optional via the graphics menu?

It would be pretty darn kewl :)

I don't know about the ones you mentioned but the first image I saw of the Project had a waterfall that was animated.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

I'd really love weather effects and things like fog. It makes an insanely big difference in how engrossing the atmosphere is, at least to me.

I wonder how well volumetric effects will interact with the 2D scenery? It might not look too realistic.

Some areas presented in screenshots look pretty foggy. We also know there is some depth data for the areas, so maybe...

Have you seen the teaser trailer? It features rain and volumetric fog. Take a close look at the cave scenes and you can see the volumetric fog, which I think looks fantastic in motion.

Also if you look again, you can see that the fireball's light interacting with the volumetric fog in the cemetery scene.

To be fair, it's a 720p zoomed-in trailer.

Please release your next trailers/footage in 1080p, pretty please.  (Yes, this was just an excuse of mine to bring this subject up.)

Is that close to what the fireball FX is going to be or just temp? I didn't really like the explosion look as it looks like a Nuke, but that's just me.

I somehow missed those last time, it does look great though.

Thanks, Adam!

I have re-watched the trailer and noticed those effects which I had missed the first few times.

The more I learn about this game, the happier I am to have backed it :) Keep up the great work!
