if i buy the basic 35 dollar game do i only get to play when it is released or can i play right after i buy it, not sure why some come up with beta access and some dont.

The $35 tier buys you the game and allows you to play at release. If you want Beta access, the minimum tier is $110.

Note that no level of access will allow you to play it today -- the game isn't anywhere near complete enough to allow backers to play.  But purchasing beta access will allow you to play a (incomplete, likely buggy) version of the game some time (likely 2-5 months) prior to the retail release.

oh okay thanks

For what it's worth, I'd clarify that it most likely won't even be simply a "buggy version of the game," per se. They're being quite protective of the game's story, so as to maintain its integrity for the best experience of playing the whole, bug-free complete thing.

So, if you are interested in beta access, it will most likely be just test scenarios. Dummy quests and dialogues, merchants, maybe crafting, dummy combat encounters, etc. It seems like their goal is to allow people to test the mechanics and such as much as possible, without just playing the actual game early and spoiling all the story stuff.

Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

Or it can be purchased as an add-on.

Although it would be nice to have alittle 'time' advantage with playing the game early. I'm likeing the idea of just testing the game mechanics, saving the story for its completed version.
