Threat was a stupid mechanic employed in Dragon Age. It was stupid in WoW. It was stupid in SW:TOR.

Let's get one guy the best armor, give him protection and healing buffs, have him shout out a challenge and all enemies converge on him. Meanwhile, the healer constantly heals him, while the rest of the party kills all the baddies as they single-mindedly target the party's so called "tank."

None of that please.

How about make it so that their are such shouted challenges that can work some of the time, and it's just a roll? A skill check against the opponents Will save or equivalent stat; if they fail it, they're drawn in by the taunts and such. If not, they keep their wits about them, and realize that it's just a ploy.

Do you like hardcore realistic survival simulations? Take a gander at this.

Lot's of 'special abilities' are equally unlikely... charging attacks that defy physics, stun attacks, battle roars...

Threat gives you an interesting tactical option. It isn't game-breaking. It is as illogical as other abilities. It is also optional.

There should be a taunt mechanic that lets characters to goad enemies into attacking them but it should be a skill that needs to be invested/trained in and it shouldn't have 100% success.

Or maybe it could depend on the enemies intelligence, if they are smart they would know that focusing on the big guy with the huge plate armor, might not be so smart, and decide to try to kill the mage and thief that are significantly easier to kill, but can deal more damage than the warrior, usually...

Like you are in a group fight, and there is this huge guy that is double your size, no way you can take him down easily, but then there is his companion a small guy that you could probably knock him with one punch, and he is wielding a revolver, it would be smarter to neutralize the little guy first, then gang up on the big guy.
