If you bought it retail, you probably can't. If you bought it online from Atari, Steam or similar, you would have to contact customer support there.

Bioware's old forums used to retain your CD-key information if you registered it there. I don't know if they ever purged that particular database since they don't really use it anymore.

I don't think suggesting he buy it again(it's on Steam now...) would get you banned...
