Rostere Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Okay, so here's the story. Last night, I had a dream about me playing Caesar 3. When I woke up I had this strong urge to play city-building games Still, I don't want to play Caesar 3 as I have played it over and over again in the past. I am looking for a city-building sim or a grand strategy game with an emphasis on economy, as opposed to warfare. I'm looking at Tropico, The Guild, East India Company, and some other games. However it's been a while since I checked the news in any other genre than RPGs, so I'm really out of the loop when it comes to which games are worth playing. Do you kind people have any suggestions for me? "Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!"
Starwars Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Tropico 1 is still one of my all-time favorites. It's not the most advanced builder, and it has some flaws, but the atmosphere is just incredibly nice. If you wish, you could also plunk down the cash for Tropico 3 which is basically Tropico 1 except with very nice graphics but also a great deal easier. Either one would be a marvellous choice. Pharaoh is also a great builder to check out. And of course, if you haven't played it, the Sim Cities are very fun as well. The first one is still my favorite though that's probably more due to nostalgia than anything else. Big Bottom Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 One of my favourites is the castle-em-up Stronghold (the original) although it's probably a little dated by now. The best flash game ever!
Deraldin Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 One of my favourites is the castle-em-up Stronghold (the original) although it's probably a little dated by now. Even if I will always fail miserably in that assault against The Pig, Stronghold is still an awesome game.
Malcador Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Caesar IV is good, hard to find thought, I guess. The Guild 2 is ok, the amount of micro can get insane and the game will get boring once you get a system that clicks, but it can be pretty fun up to that point. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Gorgon Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 It might be argued that when you start dreaming about playing games it would be advisable to take a break from playing them. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

I don't really like the Sim City games for some reason :S So I downloaded Tropico 3 from Steam and I'm playing it right now. I find it very much to my liking this far! One of my favourites is the castle-em-up Stronghold (the original) although it's probably a little dated by now. I was about to write about Stronghold in my original post since I've intended to play it for some while (yes, the old one), but I hesitated because I didn't think anyone would recommend such an old game anyway It might be argued that when you start dreaming about playing games it would be advisable to take a break from playing them. Honestly, I have a recurring dream that there's a shop selling used and old games setting up close to where I live. Then I go there and buy mint copies of games I already own and sometimes strange games that does not exist in reality, such as an expansion pack for Sacrifice, among other things. Is it that weird? Gfted1 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 No, thats totally normal. Carry on. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Monte Carlo Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I know it sounds odd, but there are a couple of really good pirate-themed games that fit the bill.
