Driving was put in, but there were other changes?

Or do you mean the real time combat?

I mean expansion of the system to include creation of super mutant, ghoul and robot characters, new perks and traits including racial ones, etc. Heavier armors having skill penalties to Sneak and manual skills.

Oh right, forgot about those.

Yes, for all the complaining I've heard about tactics (mostly legitimate regarding style, tone, and canon consistency), there were a number of basic evolutionary changes to the system that most would agree were improvements.

But for all of us, there will come a point where it does matter, and it's gonna be like having a miniature suit-head shoving sticks up your butt all the time. - Tigranes

Yeah, style, tone, consistency with canon and mission design weren't great, but the actual game mechanics were pretty good. It's a great shame that it did not allow to create dialogue trees, as then it would be perfect for all Fallout mods. In all aspects other than this it was superior to the Fallout 1 and 2 in terms of engine and gameplay mechanics.

I thought this was pretty much vaporware?

If they could combine the system improvements in tactics, SWTOR's mmo dialogue system, with a large sandbox mmo, I think they'd have a real winner on their hands.

But the cynic in me says that if that happened, Herve would step in and **** all over everything, like the out of control fecophiliac he is. He'd probably rent out ingame billboards to mountain dew, doritos, and taco bell, and turn the whole thing into a nightmarish F2P Korean grindfest.

New pretty post-apocalyptic cover for Fallout Online:

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Concept art looks pretty nice.

But I have my doubts this will ever be finished, unless some investors jump in.

IIRC herve had 20mil put towards the project between the FO sale to beth and some investors I read about a yr+ ago to work on it. So if they don't go crazy they should be able to put some kind of working mmorpg out. However how much of that is getting burned up in legal fees and mis-management is anyones guess.

Honestly I feel bad for Chris Taylor.

The guy certainly deserves to work on another Fallout title, and from the looks of it (or at least, from my rather pessimistic pov), this title won't come out at all. >_<

Chris is a awesome guy. We still talk from time to time I'd love to see obsidian pick him up if this falls though and he ends up on the market. He was actually the lead dev on LotR:O before the publisher/dev house swtich mid way though its development. He could certainly help with the next FO title after vegas IMO as he knows the material well.

I think he might have some grudges with Feargus back from Black Isle days (he was actually kicked out of BIS during FO2 development), so him joining Obsidian is unlikely. Maybe inXile?

He was? That's news to me.

Also venturing out into the wasteland was designer Chris Taylor, though his departure was fundamentally different from Cain's. "I didn't leave Black Isle Studios, I was kicked out," Taylor says bluntly. "For good reason, so I don't hold it against anybody--except, maybe, myself. I did have a chance to go work on another dream project of mine, so it worked out in the end."

Didn't know that. I'd be curious to know the reasons.

Same reason ferret was let go I am sure. Personality conflict with fergus and the other powers that be. May have to be with his ability (or lack of) but considering the titles Chris has worked on I find that less likely. However if that was the case hes certainly beefed up his resume since so perhaps fergus would reconsider. However if it was due to personality clashes odds less that would be fixable. Some folks just cant work together due to vastly different mind sets.

If I am not mistaken, he wasn't the only one with a 'lil beef with Feargus.

I just skimmed through the thread but I couldn't see much said on Herve Caen, a name that, in my mind, appears new. Could someone jog my memory or give me the lowdown? Why the hate?

Also, thanks for the link. I'm a fan of the pre-FO3 Fallout games, even though I have little faith in MMOs. This could pretty much go either way, although I'm not keeping my hopes up. The herpa derp FO3 crew will no doubt be all "But it's not Bethesda, the original fallout devs, lol" and the Fallout crew is likely wary due to the extreme change of focus.

He's the guy responsible for almost killing Interplay.
