Question

Hi, so I got the game yesterday, and I'm already having some trouble with it.

After I installed it (which took forever), I had to activate it. Strangely, I kept getting an error after putting in my activation code. The error no. was "-1912029". Still, after a bunch of tries it finally worked.

Started up the game, played it for a few hours with no problems, and then quit it.

Then, when I try starting the game from the launcher again, I keep getting error messages saying that APgame.exe has crashed. The error is logged as Application Errors 1000 and 1001, and they always go together.

I've tried checking if the Alpha Protocol process was still running, but no, it wasn't. I even tried rebooting the computer, but no dice. The game keeps crashing.

I double-checked my firewall to see if it was blocked, but it wasn't. I even downloaded a crack to see if it helped, but no.

However, I found that if I restored the original APgame.exe after replacing it with the crack, I got to the "enter your keycode" window again. Entering the keycode still gets me the -1912029 error, like, a dozen times, but it eventually works and I can start the game again.

I really hope this info will help Obsidian patch the game, because this is hair-pullingly frustrating. (And I really hope re-entering the keycode doesn't count as additional activations, or I'll find myself unable to play the game after five times of doing this...)

An update:

Now my little workaround has stopped working. The prompt which wants my keycode simply refuses to accept it, granting me a new error called "-1912007".

Still, I've found that I can still use my keycode to generate an "activation request" file which I can then upload here. This gives me an "activation response" file, which you can upload in the prompt. So far, the prompt has accepted these response files, but I suspect it won't for much longer.

I'm beginning to wonder the DRM is, in actuality, an evil little gremlin in my computer whose sole mission is to make Alpha Protocol unplayable.

When you upload the activation response, does this let you play the game? No? Does it revert to the older error?

You should be able to deactivate through that webpage as well, if not now, then soon, so you shouldn't run out of activations.

Yes, uploading the activation response lets me play the game. Of course, I still have to input the keycode to generate an activation request in the first place.

I'm actually not sure if these workarounds count against the activation limit. I think I've started the game five times this way already, but I'm not really sure. I could be in for a sad surprise the next time I try... :verymad:

I now officially can't start the game. It seems the online activation option has been closed to me as well.

Whenever I upload a generated response, I am presented with "a severe internal error".

Oh, since I can't edit my original post, I've included a screenshot of my original error here:

The window for the -1912007 error looked identical to the one above.

Use a cracked .exe since you own the game, atleast you can play what little there is before a glitch locks the entire game at one level and does not allow you to go any further. (Atleast for me)

I've actually been in touch with The Guildmaster about this, but so far I've not been presented with a solution. Sega don't exactly have a... good reputation when it comes to customer support, so I thought I'd rather go directly to Obsidian for help. Besides, I'm convinced that the problem lies in the DRM, not in the actual game.

Yes, I have tried a cracked .exe. Doesn't work. However, as I mentioned in my original post, by switching the original .exe with the crack and then back again, I can get the registration window to reappear. That's how I managed to circumvent this problem the first few times.
