The Onyx engine was not created specifically for Aliens. We began work on the Onyx engine before we even signed Aliens.

I personally think that the biggest reason Aliens was put on hold was because Sega posted a 260+ million dollar loss. Sega wisely chose to focus on projects that were further along and were closer to completion - therefore less risky. Well, that's my take on the situation.

Like it was said in that forum, put on hold confirmation! yay!

I don't expect this game before Q3/4 2011.

The new project Fallout: New Vegas is just one more confirmation about the Aliens RPG being totally canned.

Nonononononono, the new project is Fallout:Alien. :)

I wish, ask J.E. Sawyer to put a pulse rifle there from a crashed Sulaco like the weird Alien in F3 lol

Anyway like i said he changed his status from Aliens Project Director to FNV Project Director and finally to Project Director, who knows. They make keep him to finish the game someday somehow

There's no reason the exact same team has to come back.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

What do you mean "no reason"? It's the only team that is available, so it makes sense to let them work on Aliens.

There's always the possibility that the Aliens RPG is in development, but with another studio, which would suck. Whatever the case may be, it's good to hear that the Onyx engine is being put to use on that new game that's helmed by people from the MotB/SoZ team.

It's been confirmed to be on hold by multiple sources.

Besides, giving it to another studio would require Obsidian's permission, since they own the Onyx engine.

The question isn't is the game on hold. We know it is. The question is: is it cancelled? Have the assets been scrapped and drives deleted?

If AP performs well and makes money will Sega refund the alien crpg? Or is it gone for good?

'...Gemma Willocks from Sega told us: "I can't tell anything specific for now but I can assure you both games are still being made and production goes well." '- quote comes from the Polish magazine mentioned on the previous page of this thread.

What's sure is I'm more inclined to believe someone from Sega than other sources. We can debate all we want about what this Gemma Willocks is saying in that quote, but "production goes well" seems to suggest someone is actively working on it. Since Obsidian is working on three project right now (AP, FO:NV, and the unannounced game made by the MotB/SoZ team), it can't be them. Besides, we've heard rumors about the Aliens RPG changing dev before, it doesn't seem to be an unrealistic prospect. Though I hope it's not the case.

Maybe Obsidian gave their permission, maybe Sega is going to use a different engine. We'll have to wait and see. The game changing dev doesn't seem unrealistic though.

But unlikely. Because Obsidian have the expertise to create a compelling RPG, so I doubt SEGA would just willy nilly outsource it to an inexperienced/non-RPG developer. And that quote from the Sega chick could mean anything... Perhaps she wasn't well informed and though they're still in production, or perhaps with "both" she meant another game (CM and the DS game, or CM and AvP3). There's room for mistakes. I still believe that it's put on hold and will eventually see the day of light sometime in 2011/2012.

Yeh and It has been known from ages crybabies, Also Aliens Rpg and ACM were set to come almost at the same time so we won't have to wait much more If they are using the same strategy.

That's their opinion, a pretty symple one. As It seems Destructoid doesn't follow everything about the game, There is more aspects to believe that the 3rd game is the RPG and Nobody said that this confirmations mean that Obisidian should be working on the game right now, we just don't know when Sega will ask Obsidian to finish it or what is the strategy of that company for this game.

Even the ppl that worked at the game really don't know the actual situation, I think the only one that may know it now is the CEO from Obsidian and obviously SEGA.
