Personally I'm quite thankfull for the "good stewardship". A good, creative writer can easily thrive within set limits while the franchise is kept safe from the "inspired" ones. Stupid example: Batman cries when a little bat dies, Batman teaches a young teen values and leaves her pregnant etc. Yet all shall be redeemed because in a brilliant twist that awes and boggles us we find out that Batman had a third secret life, he was the Joker and in some cruel mockery of fate and reason that personality of him was actually doing time in the asylum...put there by him (Batman) because he IS that cool.

It's Monday evening and Sega still hasn't send out an offical statement.

SEGA, like AGES, when you spell it backward.

I think people need to calm down and look at this logically. Why would Fox award the AVP license to Sega if Sega isn't up to the job? As a license holder Fox has the power to take away the license from sega if they can't deliver or not satisfied with the results. ALIENS is also a license Sega of america is relying on. If anything is really going on its down to SOJ playing hardball with the budget that SOA will get. The reason why no one knows is because the financial year hasn't ended yet and Sega of america doesn't know if their budget for next year will be the same or most likely halved. And that either leads to sega going to their contracters deliver this game under a new budget or the worse cancel, and if that happens FOX will most likelypull the project away from sega and give it someone else(not necessarily the games that Obisidian is making for sega). At the moment it sems there's going to be big losses on SOJ and that will effect any budgets they give out to sega west. Especially if SOA hasn't generated a hit game.

does sega specificaly tell you guys not to post anything on the forums? or is it just something you feel is neccessary? because this is getting old.

You guys don't get it. They're not going to admit a project is cancelled (Sega or Obsidian). If you really want to find the truth then you can play reporter and hunt it down (emailing the generic press emails or find employees profiles and ask them) but neither party (publisher/developer for ANY game) is going to admit "yes, we cancelled the project".

The post wouldn't be made of a 'rumor' cancellation unless there was a valid reason for it. Read the interview that has the comment, they divert your attention to Alpha Protocol from Aliens - PR101 on changing the subject.

They still gotta give us Aliens infos, sooner or later, because the games were announced so SEGA better get their **** together.

I seriously hope this is the last project where Obsidian joins forces with SEGA. They're the worst publisher. Not even Alpha Protocol infos, and that's supposed to come out in June, right? Right?

So would you prefer a rushed, broken game, probably based on someone elses license with loads of info months before its released?

Or a great game where Obsidian were given the time and freedom needed to make their own game, as great and polished as they can but kept secret for a long time?

I know what I would prefer!

Sega are far from the worst publisher, they have won awards for their publishing and as SoA have spend quite a packet on Alpha Protocol. I'm more then sure it will get a media blow-out closer to its release. In my opinion Sega are one of the best publishers Obsidian could have got, because they are the most liberal with freedom and letting the developer get on with it then most.

Further hearsay doesn't get us anywhere different, Mr. Angry Man. We're well aware of the way this works. But I would suspect that most of us are decent enough not to get standing employees in trouble by goading them away from the talking points. Loose lips sink ships and all that.

Perhaps as someone (presumably) without any sort of official obligation you would like to impart some knowledge to us, hmm?

"Rushed"? Both Alpha Protocol and Aliens have been in development since 2006. The least what we could expect are some decent infos. And yes, loads of infos months before release are common. It's now 4 months till AP is supposed to come out, and all we got are some interviews and some meager screesnhots. Heck, people still think NWN2 was developed by Bioware, this means Obisidan are still invisible to the masses. This gotta change. And Sega as the publisher has the duty to market these goddamn games properly.

When I said rushed and broken I was refering to what has come out of Obsidian under other publishers due to them not affording Obsidian enough time to polish the game, Sega will.

I'm more then possitive that AP will get its media attention, there is a new trend with publishers. They don't release their info too soon or hype for the game died down... See Bothers in Arms Hells Highway, when it was announced people were all over it... They hyped it too soon and by the time it released people had moved on.

Sega are probably aiming to hype the game up say a month or two before release so that when it comes out the game is still fresh in peoples minds, this is what Nintendo has started doing and it works very well...

1-2 months is pretty close. I'd expect that things start rolling 6 months prior release so that print mags can catch up as well.

I prefer it the way Bioware market their games. Announcement, homepage, interview, trailer and screenshots at E3, and from there every few months some new tidbits/features from an internal, community-close team. And from there, they slowly start increasing the awareness, taking advantage of certain events to show off the latest build etc. And then some full-frontal coverage 1 month before release with previews and what not.

4 months until June for AP. And all I got to see is an outdated homepage, outdated video, and old screenshots. If that is Sega's new "strategy", then I think they fail at it.

Well maybe that IS the best way to do it, but both games that have come out with Bioware from Obsidian were rushed and not polished... So clearly they aren't the best publisher.

I would much prefer an awesome game.

I think Sega will do a good job of Advertising Alpha Protocol.

This got nothing to do with rushing a game. I'm sure Sega gives Obsidian some quality time to make AP/Aliens polished, but I question Sega's PR strategy. For example, last E3 they announced that they'd hold an Aliens press events very soon...well it's February heeeeeeeeello?

Ah, forget it. I'm just pissed because I'm really starving for news. :p

I think they really did want to do an Aliens event last year, the problem with that is, the Aliens games are not ready to be shown to the public yet.

Somehow I think AP won't get the marketing it needs/deserves.

J.E. has been saying that he's ready to show off Alien for several months.

Oh Jimmy, you were so funny.

Don't let me down.

From habit he lifts his watch; it shows him its blank face.

Zero hour, Snowman thinks. Time to go.

Probably, but I'm mostly talking about Colonial Marines, I think Sega wanted to do some kind of Aliens themed press event where they unvail them togeather... That was /the plan/ I don't know what the plan is anymore...

Youll probably we waiting much longer for Aliens info now since from what I've heard Obsidian are focusing on AP.

I'm pretty sure that they wanted to hype Aliens RPG after Colonial Marines would be published. hyping two Aliens games at the same time could be quite confusing for some people. Also it could create unnecessary marketing competition beetween two projects.

I for example think that giving OBSIDIAN more time on polishing Alpha Protocol could mean only good thing and I'm pretty sure that the hype machine should start very soon. If Sega in fact didn't cancelled Aliens they can become my favourite publisher at the moment ;(

That might be the case, but I was under the impression that what they were planning to do was hype both of them off of the others hype... urh.. if that makes sense.. lol.

Oh well who knows now!?

J.E. has been saying that he's ready to show off Alien for several months.

No, he hasn't. He's been saying that he'd *like* to show people because it's his baby and he's very excited and thinks it's tyte.

I think for some people, impatience is warping logic and perspective. If the devs & Sega are quiet, that's because they've decided to be quiet, after talking the situation over with each other. Sega isn't this super-evil corporation of doom that is just waiting to screw over Obsidian or withhold game info for no reason. Some people have continued to argue that telling the fans heaps and heaps about the game whenever they want even when it's not ready is a good thing, and that Sawyer & co are little rats squirming and toiling under the big hairy foot of Sega, but have provided no convincing rationale for such arguments.

I did expect some sort of official announcement (bar Feargie's ITS ALL FIIINE) by now, but logically, I think if they don't say anything over the next few days, it will mean that the news is not catastrophic. i.e. if all we see is a generic Sega/Obsidian "no not tru" stuff after a few more days, I think it will mean that there was some internal restructuring and changing of schedules, probably some layoffs, but not cancellations or outsourcing of games. I think.

Well, If the game IS canned, will they at least show what they had so far?

Doubtful.
