I found this article today, and, darn, like it says in the text - he, Okona, look extremly much like Atton.

 

Well, here it is.

But I guess the "K1 is a knock-off of OT wich is somehow bad, and K2 is superoriginal to the point a 20 year old character "is atton"" strikes again

i actually found an old clip of this episode a while back.

 

Okona (or whatever his name is) seems a very rogueish sort of character, which also fits in very well with the Atton comparison

I don't watch Star Trek (too old school). I watch Stargate Atlantis and bits of SG-1. Maybe Atton will come through the stargate.

I'm not sure about Atton = Okona connection writing wise, but Okona's outfit has propably been inspiration for concept art artist

don't get me wrong Xard, i wasn't meaning it in a sense of "OMG obsidian stoleded it off star trek!!!1!"

 

i was just noting that Okoma behaved in a rather scoundrel-ish manner in the episode

Being curious I looked into finding more images of Okona and have decided that if anything, Okona is loosely based on Han, as is Atton. He is missing Atton's trademark fingerless gloves, his shirt is much too puffy and he has a pony tail, for goodness sake!

Yes, Okona has a similar characterization as Atton. And Han Solo.

I wish my Star Trek Companion book wasn't packed away. I thought it was confirmed in there that the writers/producers/whatever definitely had Solo in mind when they created him. But I'm not 100% sure - my memory isn't always, uh, reliable.
