thepixiesrock
If a universe falls in the woods, and there is nobody there to hear it, does it exist? Lou Gutman, P.I.- It's like I'm not even trying anymore!http://theatomicdanger.iforumer.com/index....theatomicdangerOne billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there. Amentep
If the universe falls on my house, my insurance isn't going to cover it, I can tell you that much. The rest...not so sure. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
Walsingham
Know you what earth shall lose to-night, what rich uncounted loans, What heavy gold of tales untold you bury with my bones? My loves in deep dim meadows, my ships that rode at ease, Ruffling the purple plumage of strange and secret seas. To see this fair earth as it is to me alone was given, The blow that breaks my brow to-night shall break the dome of heaven. The skies I saw, the trees I saw after no eyes shall see, To-night I die the death of God; the stars shall die with me; One sound shall sunder all the spears and break the trumpet's breath: You never laughed in all your life as I shall laugh in death. - The Last Hero; G.K. Xard
dunno man. It breaks. In the head. There is a (predictably) tedious sci-fi story examining this. But for myself, if the human race survives until the heat death of the Universe then I for one would regard that as a 'good innings'. Ugh, singularity, potential yadda yadda yadda Although I find it very likely we've managed to kill our species for good in these next 1000 years, in the case we don't there's crazy amount of potential in human race and our consciousness, especially considering evolution is still going forward (though not by much, I guess we've quite near to the peak our species can achieve biologically...) and there's all these crazy transhumanism and stuff going on already in theoretical level I wouldn't put it past wildest imagination that heat death would be inevitable end Edited March 6, 2008 by Xard How can it be a no ob build. Humodour
Mankind has no future if we don't spread out into stars What does that even mean? Even without some external/man caused catastrophe (giant asteroid, magnetic poles reversing, atomic war, minature black hole being created in a particle accelerator, etc) the solar system will only last so long; if we stay on earth (and assuming we're still there for the event) we'd be vaporized when the sun turns into a red giant (and frankly if we were just in the solar system we might still have some issues). All life on Earth will be dead in 1 billion years, due to Earth's orbit drawing us closer to sun, and sun itself expanding a bit more. Not much in hindsight - life has only existed for like 4 billion years.
