Big Bottom Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 The only other game that has ever got that high a score in PC Zone is Half-Life 2. I'm guessing this game is going to be huge. More details on the review to follow. The best flash game ever!
Meshugger Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I am very sceptic about these 'early reviews', they tend to inflate their score alot. Ironically, the 'warez'-community has the most honest reviews. A great example was Oblivion, which got blazing reviews from left and right, while pirate-forums stated that the novelty quickly weared off, the level-system was bad, the A.I. shallow and so on. Guess which one that was right. On the other hand, Half-Life 2 got great reviews from the illegal community. Several polls where made, where as much as 70-80% said that they will buy it and recommend it to others. Usually, 'big games' such as those that the gaming press loves, gets something between 10-25%. Pidesco Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) On the other hand, Half-Life 2 got great reviews from the illegal community. It goes to show that even the warez community isn't always right.... Edit: There's a thread for Bioshock stuff already. Gorth Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 After having watched the gaming press behaving like a bunch of servile, grovelling prostitutes, all bowing and drooling on the floor for Bethesda, I have no faith in anything a game magazine/site might have to say when it comes to assessing game quality. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Are you quitting gaming press forever? I was desillusioned with gaming press 20 years ago. Nothing has happened to raise my opinion of it “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. It couldn't be that most of the gaming press enjoyed Oblivion? Bethesda isn't exactly some heavyweight publisher. I could see being skeptical if the gaming press was all over Microsoft or EA, but seriously, there isn't any real benefit to grovelling to Bethesda. In fact, considering the game was well reviewed and sold well, you might want to look at yourself when it comes to "assessing quality". Clearly you have different tastes than the typical gamer, I don't know why that's the gaming press's fault.

Clearly you have different tastes than the typical gamer, I don't know why that's the gaming press's fault. Bethesda was just a recent example. If you checked my previous post, you would notice that I stopped believing in anything the gaming press may have to say about game quality two decades ago. In the beginning, they were biased for the sake of selling ads in their pages, later they were biased to accomodate (sp?) their intended target group. I.e. howling like the rest of the pack as to not stand out in a crowd. If you deviate from the rest and you are wrong, you risk being picked upon and discarded in favour of other offerings on the market. Makes it a bit difficult to find information about a games qualities every now and then. I've learnt to trust the general consensus first on usenet interest groups and later forums/message boards where people gather and chat. Much more informative I just wish I had done that before buying a few of the games that gathers dust on my shelf Edited August 12, 2007 by Gorth “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
