Jorian Drake
Since years me and some friends work on a sci-fi/fantasy RPG/system in our free time (called STARMAGE), and now that i became a bit better with graphic programs i try to realize the Galaxy map too. I took a real galaxy for the basis and then 'worked wonders' on it with Photoshop. Here is the outcome, what do you think? Any ideas to improve it maybe? (later i will also include positions and names of the most important regions/solar systems) Right now I guess you guys can only see/find the Scorpion's Tail and The Glowzone (those are quite obvious )

Jorian Drake
This looks like you took a photo from the Milky Way and overlayed it with a concrete texture. Truly artful... ? nope, i didn't do that ...so i guess from your comment, the 4th layer is a bit much, but that the galaxy overall looks realistic? Gfted1
IMO, the galaxy does not look realistic. Unless you have an explanation for the humungus missing chunk of gas and matter that create the "scorpion tail". Unless you have an explanation for the humungus missing chunk of gas and matter that create the "scorpion tail". yes i have: an experiment gone wrong from a now extinct hi-tech race The map was intended to look like this (I mean that with the 'tail', and the glow, and the 'Red Eye', and such), was not a failure EDIT: only one system that had ultimate defenses was saved, in the middle of the shadowzone, but even their inhabitants were missing when an expedition there arrived about 50 years later EDIT2: i uploaded the original Galaxy map i used for 'mine': I rotated it by 180% as the start, then i modified places of the brightest stars, the overall color to more 'bluish' (thus i made it a 'bit younger'), removed the middle part of the now eastern area of the galaxy, made the centrum more 'robust', gave 2 variants of shadows to it, used photoshop tools (blur/spot heal/ect), made it sure the important places become more visible (like the Tail, a lot of star systems, the 'lower part' of the 'tail', ect.), included the glow into its new surroundings, added new stars again , then for spice i put on the whole 4 different texture layers (as it will be printed out, so that shoud look a bit more nicer that way) PS: heh, i think you can guess that race had to be quite powerfull if they blowed up nearly half of the Galaxy Edited June 1, 2007 by Jorian Drake

astr0creep
You should put some redish tones around the outer rings to create a "red, white and blue" shade and then sell your concept to Jerry Bruckheimer for his Armaggeddon sequel. If this works out for you I want 40% of your earnings from it please(since I said the magic word you have to cooporate). http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/

Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!" Jorian Drake
you know, to blow up that much of a galaxy that woulda been one hell of an explosion A series of explosions(?) in a chain as it happened 500 years ago the newcomer humans can only guess what caused this, and original galaxy inhabitants seems not likely to talk about this theme who knew space monkeys were so powerful?! argh just leave those out already Edited June 2, 2007 by Jorian Drake
Musopticon?
You know, space monkies are known for their ingenuity when forming tools of destruction. They can devise a weapon out of anything at hand. It's good that you have implemented this destructiveness in to your galaxy map as well. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears.
