They can make it completely linear and take place in one spaceship.

Oh, and they can make it 2D, isometric and turn-based. Now that would be a true financial suicide!

one copy would inexplicably be sold in Iowa though..

You mean when it hits the bargain bin?

Exactly, game should be similar to Bethesda's upcoming Fallout 3!

No it's because Sand is always saying that he likes these kind of games - so I assume that he would be a very happy customer if FO3 was made in this particular way.

Fortune favors the bald.

Yes, and Diamond was furthering the same joke by noting that Sand only buys them after they hit the bargain bin. :ermm:

Well, at least I don't buy them right when they come out like Dark Raven. :ermm:

Truth be told what I would want for Fallout 3 wouldn't be considered "hardcore" enough for some Fallouters, scary as that may sound.

Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer.

They can screw this up by making it a FPS and real time.

What is the point of using the aliens license, a horror franchise, if you are not going to use elements that make a game scary? Seriously, being able to pause the game, or have the round end just as an alien is about to bite a hole in your head is going to destroy any sense of horror or excitement that aliens is supposed to invoke.

As for view mode, what in the world would be wrong with a first person mode? It can still be a great RPG and have a first person mode like Deus Ex. A first person mode would also help the horror element siginificantly more than any other view mode.

I'd like to see something along the lines of System Shock with more RPG interactions.

Can, open

Worms, everywhere. ;)

Actually, a first-person perspective would add to the claustrophobic tunnel-vision ...

I've never enjoyed ranged combat in first person RPGs. Deus Ex, once I got the sword that cuts through everything, pretty much never used a gun again. Bloodlines, always used melee. Oblivion is melee centric from the onset.

I have, however, seen ranged combat in third person action RPGs that has been more agreeable with me.

What about a sniper rifle?

A sniper rifle in an Aliens game? Seems kind of an awkward weapon. I don't imagine sniping aliens to be all that useful.

I was more talking about your general statement about FPS, rather than specifically about an Aliens game:

I would prefer to snipe at them far away than be up close and personal.

You're speaking of a single weapon, that doesn't even seem fitting for the setting, in regards to a general statement. A sniper rifle using a first person system would be silly if the rest of the weapons did not.

"Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
They do that all the time, though. One of the irritating things about Ninja Gaiden Black was that you needed to switch to first person to use the bow.

There's a difference between switching between third and first for melee to ranged and needing to switch between third and first within ranged while using an RPG system.

Bah, was going to comment on Tale's dislike of ranged combat, but noticed he said "In FPS RPGs".

As for the Alien RPG, I wouldn't mind an optional 3rd person camera mode, or having the camera switch to 3rd person during certain animations. I've been a big fan of the alien movies and games over the years and the only ones that have been truly scary were the FPS games, especially the original AvP with randomized aliens that would crawl on walls and every which way to get you.

Considering it is ported from Console, definitely optimization problem based from my own miserable experiences.

I still consider System Shock 2 to be the acme of scary games. Hence I have no objection to FPS mode. Plus I'd invest massively in great soundscapes.

tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

Did anyone ever play "sanitarium" ? It was scary as hell to me at the time. But one of the really good horror games I ever played.

They can screw this up by making it a FPS and real time.

But they could also screw it up by making it Clicky-Clicky style and turned based.

It wasn't scary at all, but nonetheless an incredibly unappreciated game that had a very moving story. I wouldn't mind a CRPG in the vein of Sanitarium. Lots of interesting things to explore.... like grumpy clowns, kids-saving Aztec gods and Bugs vs. Cyclops war dramas.

Obsidian can screw this game up by giving gamers stale, uninteresting characters (as in Obliviion) and boring character dialogue (as in Oblivion); a stale, boring storyline (as in Oblivion); a dumbed-down persuasion system (as in Oblivion); a messed up driving camera (as in NWN2) . . . someone play Jade Empire please to see how it should look; a rushed released before Christmas (as in Kotor2); and a slideshow powerpoint presentation style ending (as in NWN2). I don't mind open-ended gameplay, but I bought Oblivion (the Collector's Ed, no less), and it lasted an entire week on my system (granted, I did finish the main quest, but the characters and story were so boring and dull that the game offered no staying power for me). Obsidian excels at interesting characters, interesting dialogue choices, and an interesting storyline (I know all of these things are relatively subjective, but please don't ever give us Oblivion II . . . I get scared reading about how much Feargus Urquhart loves it). I come from an adventure gaming background, so it's pretty obvious story and characters, for me, need to be compelling (Planescape Torment remains my favourite RPG). Open-ended gameplay is fine; boring characters and boring stories aren't, and games that cater to ADHD twelve year olds who hate reading don't appeal to me.
