Eddo36 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 See in real time, if you favorite sites are allowed to be viewed in China. http://greatfirewallofchina.org/test/ Well this place is allowed, so China can't be that bad.
Jorian Drake Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/index.php? The site of the mostly strategy game developers is blocked, while a lot other game dev sites aren't, i guess they can be proud now
Atreides Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Disney's censored but not 4chan? Spreading beauty with my katana.
SteveThaiBinh Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Interesting site. From here behind the Great Saudi Firewall, there are a number of sites that aren't blocked exactly, but are on a delay. The BBC News website is a good example - it's usually a few hours behind the real time, presumably as someone in an office checks it for unfavourable news stories. Fewer sites are blocked than in the past - youtube used to be blocked in its entirety, but now individual videos are blocked. This is creating a lot of jobs for Saudis, I think. And a lot fewer UK sites are blocked since the Serious Fraud Office dropped its investigation into corruption and British Aerospace. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)

Meshugger Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Hahaha, several commercial and news-sites are blocked, but NONE of the bittorrent sites (that i tried) that are hosting pirated software are blocked. Talk about weird priorities "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
Diamond Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Hahaha, several commercial and news-sites are blocked, but NONE of the bittorrent sites (that i tried) that are hosting pirated software are blocked. Talk about weird priorities Weird? Absolutely not. Western news sites are supposed to be the first ones to be blocked, as they usually present an alternative viewpoint to Chinese media. On the other hand, torrents do not pose any political threat, it is mostly entertainment. Also, remember the attitude to intellectual property in China, so who would care about it?

Walsingham Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 A truly clever dicatatoprship would encourage its citizens to read Wikipedia, so they experience the unsettling chaos and ridiculousness.
