alanschu Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I don't know. I think the cameras may have been close to the ground. I do think that the Dam is probably bigger, though it's hard to say.

Dark_Raven Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Graphically impressive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course it is, it uses Source. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

Wistrik Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I'm looking forward to playing this. HL is a fun game, but is showing its age. This is a worthy upgrade.

Pop Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 (edited) Source graphics are so-so but the physics are great. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> IIRC, the physics had less to do with Source than they had to do with Havok. I was wondering how, even rushed, Bloodlines' physics could be so pale in contrast to HL2, when they shared the same engine. alanschu Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 (edited) Havok is a plug-in for the engine ... the programmers still have to script the procedure jumps. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep. Also, it's entirely possible that licensing the engine allows for local modifications and whatnot. This seems to be the case with Half-Life 2, as according to IGN, it uses a modified version of the Havoc Physics engine. Edited January 28, 2007 by alanschu

metadigital Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Black Mesa wins Best Upcoming Mod of the Year!Submitted by natedgreat3 on 25 Jan 2007 The Black Mesa team is extremely proud to announce that for the second year in a row, we have won Best Upcoming Mod of the Year! Many thanks to all those who voted, and all the incredible support from the community! It really means a lot to us. Some of you may be wondering what we're going to do with the Mod of the Year prize. The winnings are not going to any individual developer, the $1000 will go towards mod-related expenses. As for the PC, we'll be auctioning it off, and to sweeten the deal, there may be some exclusive media included! We'll keep you posted on this auction with more details to follow soon. In addition, we've constructed a special teaser trailer especially for ModDB's video presentation of the Mod of the Year finalists. The video features level flythroughs, and all the filming and composition was done by the extremely talented Monkey-Junkie, with the music being created by our sound artist, .Plink. Be sure and check out ModDB for this video! We will have a higher resolution version available on the site in a few hours. On another note, first and most importantly, we are now accepting applications for voice acting positions. If you have applied for this position in the past and were instructed to wait, or you did not recieve a reply at all, now is the time to send your applications in once again. We'll review these applications on an individual basis and contact those we're interested in with more information. If you are considering applying for this position, please be sure that you have a suitable, quiet environment for doing recordings and that you have recording equipment which would be suitable for recording a clear sound file. The free mic that came with your PC will not work, unfortunately. We'd also like to announce that we are not accepting any more applications for prop modellers at this time. If you wish to contribute in the area of props or models, please check out our 'Create A Prop' community project which in our public forums. In addition, we recieve a large volume of applicants, and sometimes it takes us a while to respond to them all. Please do not submit your application again unless you have gone at least two weeks without a response. We generally acknowledge your application within a few days, and following that, it can take up to three weeks for us to make a decision regarding your application status. Again, we'd like to thank you for your continued support to Black Mesa! We are going to update the website tomorrow morning with a few changes, (including the higher resolution teaser trailer!) so check back soon! Wistrik Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I wonder if they have any plans on using future features of the Source engine that Episode 2 will introduce, like bending models (bridge collapsing; can't remember the technical phrase at the moment) and better outdoor representation. The screenshots look good, but I'll probably need a supercomputer to get that quality and good framerates (60+ fps).
metadigital Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Listening to the developers' notes on the dialogue track of Half-Life 2: Episode 1, the Source engine has already been updated (something about shinier textures for Alyx as she manu OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
